The week I heard that the Civic Hybrid was heading to dealers, I got a quote from my local dealer for a Sport Hatch 6MT, ran down, and drove it home, feeling relieved I got the manual before they disappeared.

SO glad I picked up my '24 2.0 manual when I did (thanks to you for that), but the '25 hybrids do seem like an amazing deal. If I had an unexpected death in my fleet, I'd probably add a Civic hybrid for LA traffic duty.

I have a 24 LX hatch with the CVT. I searched high and low for a manual, but couldn’t find one. I really needed a new car (old rav4 5 speed was totaled) and definitely wanted the hatchback, so I settled for the LX. This is the first CVT car I’ve owned, and although I have grown to appreciate how smooth it is, along with the very decent mpgs, I really , really miss driving a stick. I keep scouring the net for a used 6spd, but they are as rare as unicorns. lol

Yeah, I have a '17 civic. And although I enjoy the smoothness of the Cvt and think that it's reliable, I do miss having actual gears. But that's why I'm saving up for a project car.

So sad they killed the manual…I’m about a year or so from buying a new vehicle, and was hoping to buy the hatchback manual. I’d have been okay with the L15 or K20. I guess the SI is still around, though I’d prefer the hatchback. At this point, I am going consider the Mazda 3 hatchback in manual. In any case, wife got a 24 CRV hybrid and the Honda hybrid system is pretty impressive, great power delivery, great mpg in most conditions. For anyone looking for a sporty car at that price point that doesn’t care about the manual, the civic hybrid should be at the top of your list.

@Slappywag69 same. That acura name plate adds 5 grand to the cost 😒 That's why I ended up with a 24 civic sport touring cvt. At least that trim has paddle shifters for when I want to re-live my childhood playing gran tourismo 😅 I do miss the manual, but the cvt is better for me since my knees are shot
@Slappywag696 күн бұрын
@@btmedic04I feel you…paddle shifters are good when you need the ability to shift, and as someone closing in on 50, I have thought about the risk of an old dude injury making a manual tough. I figure if I’m still in good shape when I’m ready to buy, I’d probably still go for it. Worse case, if something happens I can trade up again. I’ve just been wanting to get back to a sporty manual car after driving boring SUVs for over a decade.

I'm sure some people think I'm crazy for buying a '24 Civic Sport Hatch MT6 when I don't even need it, but well, I did. I don't even use it for anything, as I use my '19 Fit EX MT6 for that. The Civic was strictly to keep as a museum piece. I drive it once a week. My Rally Armor mud flaps for the Civic should arrive today.

@jjacob251015 күн бұрын
Great video, and I agree with almost everything you stated. But I do like the front end and darker smokes taillights and chassis and other improvements, but yes, not so much the switch to the engine for better mpg, because that can vary depending on driving habits and other factors. I still would want to get one, but as a second car, but still I tend to get an HR-V Sport that still has the better engine. But if I was to get the new Civic as a second vehicle, I would want the Sport Touring Hybrid, primarily for the Bose Stereo, and the leather seats, Google built in, parking sensors, etc. is a plus.And the wheels are nice, but I do prefer the Sport black wheels. I might even change the wheels and just store the original ones. But then, if the Sedan was okay, the Si seems like a good option with the Bose Stereo, especially if I wanted the 6 Speed manual and performance suspension. But would make sure the oil changes were done maybe more often than 5K miles, and the proper warm up and cool down, especially after hard driving for oil circulation and engine and turbo reliability and longevity. But would probably not make substantial performance mods to the engine or drive it really hard They should have kept the 6 Speed option on the Sport. And it would be nice to have a conventional automatic transmission, too But there supposedly is a refresh coming for the 2026 HR-V, probably available late next year. I don't know what cosmetic changes would be, but I am thinking the might add the hybrid options and equipment that comes with it in the Civic. But Acura is also coming out with the HR-V based ADX SUV. It will have the 200 horsepower 1.5T engine from the Civic Si and Integra A Spec, with a CVT, the usual upgraded appointments, and a Bang & Olufsen stereo. It looks nice with the usual new front fascia design language. The back looks like a slightly more fancy HR-V with big dual exhaust finishers, and probably be $40-45K. It looks good in the Urban Grey Pearl or similar paint, but the Apex Blue Pearl really pops. Nice, but I would rather stick with the more affordable HR-V Sport with the reliable K20 engine. But a 6 Speed would be nice in that.

Excellent advice! Something else to note: That direct injection 2.0L engine appears to be tuned differently in the Sport versus the Hybrid models. In the Sport it is rated 150 hp @ 6400 rpm, in the Hybrid it is 141 hp @ 6,000 rpm. I guess these days the pursuit to improve gas mileage takes priority over reliability and just about everything else. 😞
@NAUS2K4 күн бұрын
I believe they are different engines, the sport 2.0 is a k20c9 I believe, and the engine in the hybrid is a different series.
@meemka82514 күн бұрын
@@NAUS2K That makes sense! Because both are new engines I am guessing there are no indications as to the long-term reliability of one versus the other.

I found the 2020 sport sedan with the stick about a year ago, got it for 18k with 18k miles! I absolutely love it, I planned to keep it forever since it was the last year of the combination of a NA VTEC engine with 6 speed in a sedan. And from what I know compared to eleventh-gen hatchback is that the tenth-gen sedan is a bit faster on acceleration because the lighter weight. But the VTEC on my tenth-gen only kicks in around 6100 rpm, I don't know if is tunable to make it kicks in 5500 rpm without power gain just make it work like in the eleventh gen.

The hybrid was a much needed addition. Thankfully the 1.5t/CVT is gone. The hybrid adds reliability, power, comfort, and fuel economy although there is a bit more weight and complexity. It's the right car for 90% of buyers especially those in city traffic. The hybrid power train should really replace any ICE trim besides the 6MT Si and Type R just like the new Toyota Camry.

The HYBRID is the ONLY way to go now-----BUT, there are a number of concerns regarding maintenance and reliability of Honda's 'two-way motor' hybrid system. How long will the battery go for? At least as long as warranty, presumably. What happens if the battery is no good? Will the car still function as sort-of ICE-only?
@yahir1862-g8s4 күн бұрын
I was told newer Honda Hybrids get 10 year warranty, my 2014 Accord Hybrid hitting 700k miles soon, battery is good , motors are good the only issues I got were clogged catalytic converter and worn-out suspension

If only they make the 2025 si manual in a hatchback, that would be my choice. Because that is not an option, I would have to go with 2025hybrid hatchback. Which leads me to a question on the degenerated braking paddle shifters. When on a winding road, when increasing the degenerate braking when coming to a curve, do you feel the increase braking only when applying the brakes, or do you also feel an increase braking when just taking foot off the gas pedal but not appying the brakes. Cause that would almost feel like downshifting on a curve which may be kind of fun.

Maybe the integra with the 1.5T, but not the accord. Accord is big, heavy, and very soft suspension compared to the civic, more of a family hauler than an enthusiast car. IMO the new accord styling is not very Honda

@GoldPeakLLC yep, full OTD with everything. I sealed the deal on Oct. 31st, so last day of the month + my salesman wanted to get home early for their kids on Halloween + I got pricing from other dealers in the area to negotiate + a family member bought a car from the same dealer a few months ago and they wanted to keep my family with their dealer. more NPC level cars would benefit from being a hybrid than a lame 1.5 turbo+cvt look at what Toyota is doing- new camries are ALL hybrid, and so are new Siennas most new trims of the Accord and CRV are hybrid only too (though losing the 2.0t accord sucks) at least acura still makes a manual integra in two trims as well too
