Some of my favourite words: - grotesque - verisimilitude - harbinger - exonerate - vestigial - ethereal - quintessential - eviscerate - nonchalant - kryptonite - mirage - laconic - lexicon - anathema - cacophony - conundrum There are still many more. I usually writes new or unfamiliar words from books, films, or podcasts in my notes. Some I like because of the meaning, and others just because I like saying it.

After working so hard non stop for quite a while, I was bitten by [wanderlust]. First trip was to London, Bath and Cotswolds. I instantly fell in love with this country and I wanted to know more about it. Feeling the post-trip blues, I was seeking some good way to feel a little close to England and learn about it’s culture & language. But I spent a several weeks without any good ideas and I was completely [discombobulated]. Then, I happened to find Tom on KZbin by sheer [serendipity]. I was such an [nincompoop]! Why couldn’t I find him earlier! He’s great, fun & smart. Not only his lessons, I enjoy his vlogs. If possible I’d love to watch his vlogs a little more often.

Tom, I wanted to use your example sentence in my English essay. Do you think it sounds proper, or is it too informal for writing?: Whenever you go on Instagram and scroll through the masses of photos, you may get the feeling that the society is constantly imposing the image of a flawless, always cheerful life on you.

What an amazing selection of words you chose! Honestly, I found them really interesting not just in meaning, but in their sounds too. As I found your video quite inspiring, I decided to make up a (crazy) story: Have I told you how I met my husband? It all started with my mother and one of her besties being in cahoots with each other. They wanted to set up a blind date for me, and for that purpose they went online and read many profiles until the finally found one they thought it would fit in with my lifestyle, as travelling is a must for me in a partner, and that particular guy emphasised his wanderlust. That Saturday morning, my mum's friend came by and started talking about a new fancy restaurant that they had opened near our house. I found her particularly enthusiastic about that, which flummoxed me at first, as she is not much of a talker, but I decided to let her schmoozing me into going with her to that new place she couldn't stop talking about. When I arrived there, it was so hectic I must confess I found myself discombobulated for a few minutes because of the constant noise all around. As for my mum's friend, there was no sign of her, so I couldn't stop thinking what a nincompoop I was for having agreed to meet up with her there. Suddenly, by serendipity, I found myself next to a guy who apparently was as lost as I was. He smiled at me and, from that moment on, we couldn't stop talking. I felt I had an epiphany! "Isn't he the most interesting guy I have known so far?" I thought. And certainly he was. A few days later, we found out that we didn't exactly meet each other by chance, but it didn't matter: among all the people in that place, we chose one another. As every relationship, we have had our ups and downs, but that made us stronger as a couple. Lately, since we don't have enough time to travel as much as we would like to, we simply love snuggling on the sofa while we watch one of our favourite films: "The Blue Lagoon".

I started getting wanderlust after the serendipity of finding your channel and loving English. Before that , I felt discombobulated when I had an English exam, but now I and my brothers work in cahoots and schmooze with my mother to let us use her phone to visit your channel and learn what you teach us. Now, I really wanna head to London in swim in the lagoon. That's spectacular! I watch your videos and snuggle. It's a great epiphany that your channel should be watched everyday. I no more / no longer get flummoxed! I am good at English after I used to be a nincompoop girl. I'm dying to swim in London's lagoons.

Great job Tom. !!! I have been speaking English for the past 25 yrs but I am still interested to learn more. I read all Churchills books and what I found was interesting his deep knowledge of English Language. His book called « the history of English Speaking People” is probably the best book to understand English history and culture . Just keep in mind the book’s history is from the beginning of England to 1950s . He even received a noble prize for his literature work.

Haha, I schmooze my parents I don't have a top ten, but I have a top five. Two of them are used to describe a stupid person(one is nincompoop, so that's a wrod we both like!) These are also in no specific order, I'm just writing them down randomly. 5) Clod. I usually use it as a joke when talking to my friends, like, "You clod!". It's also a joke from a cartoon. 4) Lustrous, I just love saying that word. 3) Nincompoop, it's fun to say and I usually end up laughing when I say it. 2) Celestial, like lustrous, I just love its sound. And last but not least, 1) Rambunctious, I don't know why I like that word so much, it's just a nice word to say, I guess. Awesome video as always, Tom! I know it's been a while since this was uploaded, but I'm new to your channel and I'm happy that I found it 'cause your videos are great!

oh dear! I am 3 years late on this vid :) I cant help but giggle like a schoolgirl on "schmooze". As you might know Yiddish shares a lot of vocabulary with German, in this case it is kind of faux amis though as "schmusen" in German means to cuddle or make out with someone. So schmoozing with clients has a double entendre to the German ear :) On another note I would be pretty sure that wanderlust reached English from German, we use it here as well and have an even stronger variation that I like very much: "Fernweh" = Far-ache, which is the oppposite of "Heimweh" = home sickness (home ache literally). So "Fernweh" is the ache and longing of your heart to be somewhere else or abroad so to say, I find it quite poetic :)

Hello, Tom. I'm glad to see u again here online. I found the term discombobulated a better description for my use of adjectives in English. i. e, in which order should a list of adjectives be used to descrube a single noun? For example, how can I describe a car correctly using all theses adjectives in a single sentence? Expensive, fast, yellow, comfortable, German, classic, diesel engine and famous. Is the rule OPSHACOME always reliable? Thank you teacher. 😊

Loved the video. I don't have favourite words but I use "nice" a lot, so probably it would be.

discombobulated is great ! .. and wanderlust, in Italian we have not a word as " wanderlust" we need every time to say "a strong desire to travel." Forte desiderio di viaggiare :)
