The Stand is epic. Period. Best thing he's ever written in my opinion. The uncut version is well over a thousand pages but it never gets boring. The Long Walk is my favorite book he published under the pen name Richard Bachman.

I'm intrigued to see the new IT movie - the 90s miniseries was terrible, but with the right people and the right script, IT could be a really good film. I just hope they don't butcher it. I hate when my favorite books end up being terrible movies.
@scottbryant62208 жыл бұрын
I agree that the movie was terrible. I hope they do good things with the new one, but I am afraid it is going to be PG-13. I just don't think the story can be told effectively as a PG-13 movie.

Just found your channel while trying to find a Stephen King book I haven't read. "It" and "The Stand" are my favorite King books! I'm curious to know what you think about the upcoming "It" movie based on the trailers; and stuff you've heard or read about it. Personally, I think it looks amazing and scary and darn entertaining! Lastly, I did find a book (by watching KZbin) that I didn't know about. It's called, "In the Tall Grass" by Stephen King and his son, Joe Hill. It's a short story. I just bought it on Audible.com because the KZbinr says that this was one of her favorite King stories and it's quite horrific! Consider me a new sub to your channel. Great video!

I am very excited for the IT adaptation. I think the trailers look amazing. I hated the 90s miniseries...it stripped the story of everything that made it so great and scary. This version looks like it is following the book for the most part. I'm about to start rereading IT in anticipation of the movie coming out. I will probably do a review comparing the movie and book after I see it. :)

Since I saw that they are remaking IT, I thought I would re-read it. But after reading about a 1/4 of the book, I have realised that I haven't read it at all. I have read so many Stehpen King books that I assumed that I had read it. (Its awesome BTW). So, I thinkI will go back and see which of his classics that I have not read. Which included The Stand. Different Seasons - which is 4 novellas is pretty fantastic. Carrie is great - is so creepy, and such a classic. The Tommyknockers is a really fun alien invasion story. Insomnia is a really weird story that I thoroughly enjoyed - where else can you find a novel where elderly people are the heroes? The Shining is also really great. Honorable mention - Full Dark, No Stars - this was another short story collection, but all the stories were about the darkness in people, nothing supernatural. The stories were really well done.

I gotta be honest, THAT scene from IT ruined the whole book for me. You know the scene, Beverly and the boys. I thought that was just terrible and I didn't see a good reason for it. I loved The Stand until the end. One of my favorite books but that ending! Loved Pet Semetary, and I never read Needful Things but there was a terrible vomit scene in The Body (Stand By Me) too. Was the scene in Needful Things worse than that one?
@ARRRGHSchooling9 жыл бұрын
+J Diddy I agree, that scene in IT is problematic, but I loved the rest of the book so much that I was able to overlook it. And I definitely agree on the endings - it's really a huge flaw in many of Stephen King's books. Some are worse than others (I think Cell is up there in worst ever endings). Yeah, the vomit scene in Needful Things is definitely up there with the one in The Body - really anytime a large group of people are vomiting it's awful, lol. In Needful Things, if my memory serves, it's nearly the whole town inside the church when everyone starts getting sick all over each other.

@ARRRGHSchooling6 жыл бұрын
Maybe the Shining? I think that was the first Stephen King my oldest daughter read and I don't recall anything sexual in the novel. Firestarter and Cujo could work too, as could Insomnia, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, and Cell. I would also recommend that if you want scary without sex scenes, check out John Saul. I loved his novels when I was a young teen. His books also frequently feature a teen protagonist.

I would highly recommend both Carrie and Pet Semetary - they are both fairly short and some of my favorite King. If you are feeling ambitions, read IT.

It's an old 90s paperback. I bought it at Walden books back when they used to have bookstores in malls.

I'd suggest people start with Different Seasons. 4 Novellas that are very good. I do agree that The Stand is his best though. But that book is long and goes on and on. That's like his War and Peace.

I enjoyed The Stand, but felt like it was extremely anti-climactic. Otherwise, killer list! All great reads. My favorites are: 11/22/63, IT, and Misery.

Agree about the stand, amazing build up then a damp squib of an ending
