As a fellow gen z I recently bought a kindle on a whim because of prime day and found myself getting glued to that all day instead of my phone. If I ever feel the urge to scroll I can just read my book. I’m surprised how little I touched my phone with all my reading.

Wow, the algorithm is really doing its work. As a person that literally witnessed the evolution of technology from the 1st shoebox-sized cell phones, to texting, and the rise of the internet and social media, I definitely miss the days of not being so embedded with our technology. When I was young, you had to buy actual maps from gas stations if you wanted to find directions for a place. So imagine that in 2024 its kind of quaint to think back on a time when it was normal for everyone to print out directions from Mapquest. What a time to be alive. Great video!

I applaud you for coming to this conclusion in a humorous way. I have felt this way for a very long time. But to be open I was born in 1959 when phoned hung on the wall, and if we wanted to talk with someone we did it face to face 99% of the time. And oh yeah, we used pen, paper, and the US Mail service, especially for paying bills. Still, me being ancient, I enjoyed this video. I hope that you continue to grow in your freedom from such strong dependence on a phone. They are great tools, yet our life really shouldn't be tied directly to them. I'm the same generation as you are, but I went even more retro when I started using a rotary phone for 30 days straight without looking at my smartphone, to reduce screen time. It helped me a lot and for the record, I was the only ONE that still uses a rotary phone than a flip phone. The thumbnail makes me wonder if any of your friends go on the bandwagon that would follow. Now going 4 months with my rotary phone. Thank you so much!

I bought the same flip phone and tried this around this time last summer! It was super fun and totally helped me rethink my digital lifestyle. I eventually decided it was impractical when I got lost and the google maps didn’t work lol. Love what you guys do and wish you the best!

honestly i once would think this would be a good idea, but phones come with so so so many pros, and if not ur phone, then computer or MacBook. in today world we cant live without it, banks, job requirements, travelling (I have digital bus card), Checking assignments and hw off our school app, ordering stuff, check-in important emails. so instead of switching back to something outdated that u most likely wont be able to work with unless you don have a job and live somewhere on the country side, then we should learn how to live with our phones and work with the addiction. think of n alcoholic, every time they go to the store, the liquor will still be there and they'll have to resist. so maybe, find new hobbies, delete social media, get busy with something else so you wont go on your phone.

Take a saw, hammer and nail and wood screw in a bag, for camping, if you need to chop some wood for poles in the ground and a wood root with branches and leaves etc.

i did this for close to a year (from october of 2023 until last week cuz it broke!!) and it was so nice... i always got compliments on how cool it was but also so many perks of being offline! battery life was up to 5 days, i called way more than texted, and felt more aware of my surroundings at all times.. it was such a good experience :D

I used to have a flip phone a little bit over 10 years ago before my first iPhone on my birthday July 25th,2014 which was my 44th one. My last flip phone was LG Wine 2. I think that I won’t go back to a flip phone at all. I have been using an iPhone for 10 years. I still do have iPhone 8, SE(2), and my current iPhone is a 14 in purple. I do liked iPhones because they are so easy to used for me.

I dropped my phone in the pool last month and it was horrible because I lost access to my banking (venmo & BOA) and i also don’t have a computer or tv. so there was a lot of stuff i needed access to. BUT I LOVED IT. AND I DIDN’T WANT TO BUY ANOTHER BECAUSE PHONES ARE STUPID. no one knew where i was and no one knew how to reach me. but i had to buy a new one eventually. 😪

Well i was born in 1974 and i got my first mobile phone in 1998, not smartphone but mobile. Try going without a mobile phone or a smartphone for a very extended period of time, not just a week, but years. You'll find that you change a few things but life goes on.

My eldest son recently made that same classic camping mistake… forgot the tent poles. After that, he put a pop up roof tent on top of his 4WD. He’ll never have that issue again. love this!! also gen Z & I've been living with a flip phone for almost 10 months and never want to go back. unfortunately, I will have to go back next winter when I travel because so many things nowadays are smartphone dependant, especially when you travel (like tickets or ubers or QR codes or venmo ;) ) but for everyday life, it's such a nice break. and personally, I don't think the fact that you were busy was cheating, I've found that since I've had my flip phone I have made more efforts to busy myself because when I get bored I am TRULY bored with nothing to distract me. loved your video:)

I used a push phone without internet for 3 months... the amount of self control and awareness that increased in me was beyond my expectations. Today, I'm able to control my urge to take the phone much much better compared to earlier and can resist the urge to take it even if 10 (unimportant but stimulating) notifications pop up at once. You also realize how the society around you is so oblivious to the rest of the world even when they are right next to each other, and it is seriously disappointing...

Hint... these devices are tools. Use them as they were intended. Make a conscious effort to put them down/turn them off when they are not directly relevant to an immediate task requirement. Enjoy and stay in the moment without the noise... we only have one kick at this can :)
