Top Presentation Adam....just ordered my new 2014 (manual) , and as a long time Subaru fan, am looking forward to another few years of driving pleasure and reliability! Many people complain about the so called 'weak' engine and yes, by comparison to many others, it's certainly no rocket. If I wanted 'power' I could have gone out and bought my first WRX as I have always drooled over them, however with todays heavily speed camera infested roads, there are fewer and fewer places one can enjoy such a beast (perhaps a 'track day' is the only 'economical' way these days)? My first Subi was a new '87 L Series Wagon, which I think pumped out a massive 70 Kw and was heavier than the XV, but I had a lot of fun with that car, took it places many 4WDrivers couldn't believe. My '92 Liberty was 100 Kw and heavier again, but compared to the L was a revelation in terms of power....I think the current generations really are spoiled for power, but not knocking it....my wife owns a 2007 VW Jetta with the 147 Kw GTi Motor, now that thing has more than ample enough power for anyone.....and with good fuel economy to boot....It's comfortable well built and at times (right time, right place) very naughty fun! My current Subi is a 2004 Forester X, not exactly a rocket either but plenty for me...it has a far more 'solid' (brick dunny comes to mind) feel to it then the XV, I must admit, but I guess that's down to modern, lighter, higher tensile steels being used, but I still have confidence in the Subaru product to have confidence in it's ability to take the harshness of the goat tracks we call roads/highways in Australia ( I live in Gippsland) and stay in one piece over time, and it will certainly use a lot less fuel. Thanks again for a great report.

Great video, no nonsense review, you guys covered a lot and the whole video was a pleasure to watch I was almost mad when it was over. Great review. Thank you for posting this. I am still torn between an 2012 Impreza Hatchback or the XV.

Test drove one yesterday at Flagstaff Nissan and Subaru in Flagstaff, Arizona. A good vehicle for basic commute and good fuel economy. In my opinion, the engine should have at least a 2.5 liter with 180 horsepower under the hood.

+Nicholas Manheimer Hi Nicholas, the basic concept and driveability of the XV is very good, well balanced on and off the road although we agree, more power is definitely needed. The 2.5L naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engine would work well with plenty of torque for overtaking and not big enough to worry owners concerned about fuel economy. Even better would be the 2.5L turbo engine from the WRX. Thanks for your comment, best of luck with you decision and please let us know which way you decide to go.

+MyDrive Media If you know the CEO or any representatives from the company in Tokyo, Japan. Send them a letter that us Americans dig the XV Crosstrek but we like speed and power when hitting the Interstates and open roads. Off-roading is fantastic but needs a little power on the open highway.

+Nicholas Manheimer can the start stop be disabled?
@MyDriveMediaAu8 жыл бұрын
+Universal Veritatem - Hey there and thanks for your question. Yes the start/stop feature can be disabled although from memory, the button needs to be selected each time you turn off the XV. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and your comment!

The XV isn't quick, but it's fast enough to merge on the expressway and for everyday point A to B driving. It's an appliance and doesn't aspire to anything more. I had a 2006 Civic LX A/T and it wasn't a speed demon yet I managed to pass slower vehicles without a problem, it just required more planning.

I got the hybrid and the little more pep the electric motor adds is noticeable from the gas model especially above 60 mph, and the hybrid is only pushing 160 bhp. Yes, this car does need a little more power, but to be honest through daily driving I'm not complaining. It feels just as quick as my old 170 hp Legacy with the 2.5L engine. I don't think I made a bad choice and the extra cost of the hybrid after comparing the two I feel added a little more power to the vehicle, and as well looks nicer. You do pay a premium for that though. I'm looking forward to driving this vehicle for the next 8-10 years.

Looks odd at the back without it's rear fog light in place and the blank clearly visible in the middle of the bumper !!! Diesel Boxer version is best suited to the vehicle too !!!

I see the auto start stop as a gimmick.I've had a subaru xv since April.I've done 7000+ km but it's only saved about 8L of petrol.Saving 1L/1000km is not worth it,given that a lifetime of a car is usually about 160000km you're saving 160L of petrol about $200 worth of petrol for the entire lifetime of the car.Not much.But overall the fuel efficiency is amazing.Day to day i'm getting around 6-7L/100km but overall I'm averaging 8/100km,because I put a roofbox on the way down to the snow.Great car!

First off this video is biased since Subaru is a sponsor. Second ... the engine produces 148 hp only AT MAXIMUM RPM (6200)and 140 foot pound of torque at 4200 rpm. In short the Engine has to spin really fast just to eck out the measly 148 hp to push the 3100 lbs vehicle( not including occupant). Conclusion - the Achilles heal of this car is the drive train 148 hp and 140 foot lb of torque to push 3100+ lbs

What are these like long term for maintenance and parts cost and reliability !
@MyDriveMediaAu5 жыл бұрын
With so many XV's sold around the world, parts are quite cheap. As long as the service intervals have been maintained, maintenance costs and reliability should be fine. Subaru just like Toyota will provide many years of great reliability and low maintenance driving. Pro Tip: - Ensure you have a licenced mechanic look over your XV before purchase for piece of mind.

I LOVE HOW I CAN'T WATCH VIDEOS ON KZbin. Anyone else have issues with videos locking up in buffering and never recovering? Also they tend to stop in the middle for no apparent reason, and start playing another unrelated video....

is true. oil consumption problem subaru xv???
@MyDriveMediaAu8 жыл бұрын
Hi Emilio, yes some Subaru XV's have experienced oil consumption issues. If you are purchasing a used XV, check the maintenance logs as Subaru may have replaced the piston rings under warranty. Best of luck.

This is less a review and more a biased advertisement that was sponsored by Subaru. This gave me no more new information that was already easily attainable elsewhere. Was hoping for more detailed technical info on Subaru's engineering technology that was designed into the components, and less of the sales pitch. Need more information about ownership experience, service intervals, range and options list, competitors (more than just cx-5) and comparison, carrying capacity, weight, real-world fuel usage, etc. Also, more criticism is required of Subaru XV's bad points like the inability to disable stop/start permanently without your choice being reversed by switching off the key, that stupid temporary spare tyre, lack of direct injection, weak low-down torque etc. You gave plenty of gratuitous images, but no compelling reason to consider the XV over its competition. More objectivity will give you more credibility. I wasted my time watching this.
