One of the main ingredients in Sal Suds is SLS (sodium laurel sulfate) and it's known to be a skin, lung, and eye irritant. You said you avoid commercial detergents because they contain sulfates and then added sulfates to your recipe. I'm confused.

Castile Soap is made from Olive Oil, so it is much less of a surfactant than Sal Suds is. Sal Suds is a sulfate, it's processed differently than other sulfates on the market so it doesn't contain the toxic byproducts others do. But anyway, sulfates are much strong than soaps and Castile Soap is a soap.

While I appreciate this recipe and I believe it is a good one, you did not give the recipe until over halfway through the video. I don't have time for that. Also, that Dr. Bonner soap is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE!!! The size you have in this video is about $69.00 on Amazon. I suppose the point here is "nontoxic" and not an effort to save money AT ALL. my concern is that salsuds has Sodium lauryl sulfates (SLS) in the ingredients. I bought SalSuds after watching your video, but after reading the ingredients on Sal Suds bottle how is (SLS) not toxic? I looked at the EWG and they are saying borax and SLS is not good for you. I did make your recipe and have to say the dishwashing soap came out incredible. II really liked your receipe. 'm just concerned now on the SAL SUDs. What are your thoughts. Maybe I need to do further research.
@sussettetorres9185
@sussettetorres9185 6 ай бұрын
SLS is in our Sal Suds all purpose cleaner, and here’s what we say about it on the bottle: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) is a surfactant that cuts grease and dirt, generates copious suds, and biodegrades quickly and completely. SLS is made by combining a sulfate group with lauryl alcohol from coconut oil, then attaching sodium. If improperly formulated, SLS can irritate skin, but our superb formula uses coco-betaine and lauryl glucoside to counter this. Sal Suds is a mild, synthetic detergent, not a body care product. SLS does not, and never has, appeared in any of our soaps since the saponified vegetable oils in our Castile Soaps are much, much better for our skin, and can be certified organic. SLS is synthesized (read “man made” or “processed”) even though it does have a coconut base.

Thank you for explaining just how toxic the store-bought detergents are. It’s terrifying when you realize all of these carcinogens and chemicals are in these products that we use every day. I’m glad people are beginning to wake up to the corporate corruption. Any small thing I can do to cut some of these corporations out of my life I will gladly do. Making your own cleaning products and body soaps out of natural products is a great first step.

Would like to know how this affects washers compared to other DIY products. I did not know this until recently, but most DIY laundry soaps (Zote) are only good for handwashing with scrub boards and will ruin machinery over time, voiding any warranties. It you are going to use industrial machinery, you have to use it with products made for the purpose. So, do you know whether Sal Suds fits the bill on that one?

You should contact your Washing machine manufacturer and Dr. Bronners.

Sal Suds is considered a detergent. Not oil based as a true soap is. Dr Bronner's website has lots more information about this & on Lisa Bronner's blog. Check out the difference between detergent and soap, both are surfactants but work differently, serve a different purpose.

What to know about using soap- will it leave soap scum residue on the machine and clothes? What to use? Apple cider or white vinegar? Any thoughts?

Hi I've recently discovered your channel. Love ❤ all the information you provide, such an amazing resource. My daughter is expecting, and she is going to use cloth diapers. Will this keep them white. Or do you have a suggestion.

Hi Deidre! So happy to have you here. No this one won't remove stains. I have a stain remover video here on the channel. But also she can add Hydrogen Peroxide to the wash to help reduce stains. The best thing to do is to wash out the stain right away, spray the stain remover on it, and then wash in the next wash. Here's my stain remover video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYfWmYt9hJhglac

I love how simple this recipe is. Curious how you came up with it and why you don’t use common ingredients such as borax and washing soda?

I love what you're teaching everyone. I'm allergic to sulfates and I have a undiagnosed skin issue ( I haven't seen a dermatologist yet) so I'm definitely going to watch your channel. 😊

Really want to try this, the only thing holding me back is: does this recipe have any issues clogging the pipes of washing machines over prolonged usage? And how does the detergent perform on whites?

I’ve had it last many months with no problems, but I didn’t do any mold checks on it or anything. But if you’re concerned you may not use it up in a month or two after making it, then I’d cut the recipe in half.

I believe this detergent recipe is not for HE machine. The Sal Sud will clog up the tubes. I would put 1/2 cup of Sal Sud instead of 2 cups.

@MyMerryMessyGermanLife
@MyMerryMessyGermanLife 3 жыл бұрын
You'll end up wasting Sal Suds as it's super concentrated, but I guess you could use just a little bit and it might be similar. This recipe makes it so that it's very thick and easier to pour.
