I'm living vicariously through your videos at the moment! After years of stress, noise, crowds and commutes in London we will be moving onto the water and buying a little bolthole in the country to hopefully keep us in diesel and gin. Until everything slots into place I watch your videos whenever I feel it's all too stressful- I find them instantly relaxing! They should be available on the NHS.

Hi Spencer. I’m so pleased you find my videos restful. I was lucky enough to get early retirement last year, which reduced my stress levels and BP significantly. I wish you well with your plans and hope these come together for you, sooner than expected. Best wishes Alan

@@MyNarrowboatVenture Im glad to hear your enjoying the life Alan.Im hoping to get a little boat for next year to spend the summers on,it wont be a narrowboat unfortunately,hopefully a 30ft grp one that i can use on the canals though.I just missed a Creighton 32 about 6 weeks ago for 10,but it looked like it would have done,allthough somebody mentioned a Nauticus as they have a rear steering position and are supposed to be easier to get on and off in locks etc than the centre cockpit ones

Hi Lewis. Many thanks for your kind comment. There is a variety of videos to come including some short cruises and some working on the boat ones. I have a lot of editing to do. The revs were dropping because of the position of the Morse lever. It’s not a problem. Cheers

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching your vlogs Alan, really enjoyed them. You have a very relaxed and warming style that makes for very pleasant viewing.i have to say that as the world’s most vehement “tunnel haters”...we always to try and go through the longer tunnels at the crack of dawn, when hopefully everyone else is still tucked up in bed. Through the tunnel and then moor up for a nice cooked breakfast..! Saves the nasty exchanges with the tunnel walls that you describe...although it does necessitate some careful journey scheduling. Look forward to seeing you again soon. 🍷🍷
@MyNarrowboatVenture5 жыл бұрын
Many thanks Steve your comment is much appreciated. What you suggest about going through tunnels makes very good sense. The most boats I’ve passed in a tunnel was six in Crick Tunnel. I have a variety of videos in preparation. Cheers

Thanks very much Ian. That’s a big step to take from watching my videos. It does need a lot of thought, as some people just don’t take to it. If you’ve not done it before, I suggest you hire initially and see how you get on. That’s what I did. Cheers

@@MyNarrowboatVenture Many thanks for the reply to my comment. Just to let you know Alan. My brother inlaw has been travelling the waterways for many years now and as he is a qualified carpenter he has fitted out his last two narrowboats himself. We have been around with him and his wife quite often over the years, mostly in the Cheshire and Staffordshire area. Never had the chance to own a boat before because my job took me all around the country. So due to early retirement all things are now possible. P.S. If you see a boat called "Serendippity" on your travels it maybe my brother inlaw Lol. Cheers.... !!

Hi Ian. You know more about boats than I do. I bought mine on early retirement. As for the boat name, I’ve seen quite a few, in fact there’s one moored not far from me on the canal. I hope all goes well for you. Take care

Another great video. I know the tunnel was wide enough for two boats, but you would have thought they may have waited for you to exit as you were almost exiting. Some people are in too much of a rush. Slow down people. :-(
@spencerwilton58315 жыл бұрын
Traffords Finest maybe, but by the time he had exited another may have entered, or someone come up behind. It's a two way tunnel so it makes sense to keep moving.

Hi Dave, many thanks. I can see what you mean but I’m fairly certain it’s an old light fitting, in what now seems an unusual place.
@DaveJohns615 жыл бұрын
@@MyNarrowboatVenture Looking at it again, I think you're right. It hangs down below the bridge number, so the bracket or fixing must have have corroded and broken some time ago. It's hard to make out.
@MyNarrowboatVenture5 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave. The light fitting is attached to a conduit for the cable, which strangely gives the look of a gaslight!

Hi Alan what about buying a telescope to look into the tunnels ?
@MyNarrowboatVenture5 жыл бұрын
Hi David. I actually have a monocular on the boat, which I occasionally use for looking ahead particularly at Locks. It’s difficult because I have to take my glasses off and focussing is difficult and then of course I’m driving the boat at the same time, so tis all rather awkward. Cheers
