Behringer Deepmind 12 demo. This is an analog polyphonic synthesizer. I just cycle through presets and improvise whatever comes to mind. There's some pads, some basses, some organs, some electric pianos and other kinds of sounds thrown in.

For those curious, here are the titles for some of the music covered in this video: 5:35 Stardust - Hoagy Carmichael 11:58 BWV 777 (measures 33 - 42) - J.S. Bach 12:22 All Blues - Miles Davis 13:46 Blue Monk - Thelonious Monk I think more synth demos should use different kinds of genres like this one does, and not just use the typical bleep-bloops and Vangelis/Van Halen/Stranger Things type covers.

I grow weary listening to people demoing a synth and doing nothing but use "spacy sounds". How about some sounds that can be used in ensemble . Strings, horns, etc.

I'm going down a rabbit hole of polysynths trying to figure out what I want, and after listening to the Rev2 video and this, you have an amazing recording setup that makes the synths sound so rich and warm. Like, blows other videos out of the water. I was ready to write this one off and now it's a very real contender. Hoping you have a Prologue demo somewhere in here so I can give it another shot.

Thanks for the wonderful video! I just ordered this beast and it seems it will handle any and all of the polyphonic sound design ideas a composer could possibly manage, and then some! The presets are obviously not what I bought it for, but you made fine use of them!

Thanks for making this demo of the patches. It sounds really amazing!! I almost think I could give up both of my other synths just to have 12 note poly with all of the capabilities this has. But I do love my minibrute for all of it's raw VCO and no menus. And the system 1, it has the SH-101 which does quite well as virtual emulation. And I like what I get out of it whenever I juke around with it, just not as wide of a range as the deepmind though.

The digital FX seem to extend it sonically quite a lot - but you can still hear the analog engine. I was first a bit dissapointed (no FM, ringmod, no multimode filter), but it seems there are lot's of possibilities. Was good that they not just to replicated a Juno 106.
@onceuponasynth
@onceuponasynth 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I like to think of the Deepmind FX as part of the synthesis engine rather than something to add at the end. So in that way there's a lot of sculpting possibilities.

Are filter sweeps and other modulations smooth on this? I am torn between this and a Rev 2. My Mopho SE has some stepping on filter sweeps and the LFO modulation isn't always smooth, so I'm afraid the REV 2 may be the same. If you had to choose DM12 or REV2, which is more musical? Thanks for the vids!🎹🎹🎹

Careful, you’re going subject yourself to the ire of the retro synth owners who “purchased a CS-80 an Oberheim OB-Xa with his allowance and was standing at the end of the conveyor belt of the assembly line waiting for them to finish the last solder and got unit number 0000001 and played it before anyone knew how to spell “synth” and knows for sure that the Deepmind sounds “NOTHING, you hear me NOTHING Like an actual analog retro synth!!!!!” and they can prove it by all time and money they put into keeping up with broken parts and keeping their precious retro synths in tune and the precious retro synth’s finicky behavior” so there’s no way this $800 synth can be of any real worth or use” is what they have to tell themselves. I don’t know what’s worse wine snobs or synth snobs.

Holy crap!!! Question about the iPad app- do you have to join an ad-hoc Wi-Fi network to use the iPad app? In other words, you cannot be connected to your home Wi-Fi network whilst also controlling your beautiful BEHRINGER DEEP MIND SOUND MACHINE
@onceuponasynth
@onceuponasynth 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's correct. The Deepmind has to go into "Access Point" mode, and then you connect to that access point from the iPad (so you can't browse the net at that point).
@binershock
@binershock 7 жыл бұрын
One thing you can do to get around that is use iPad's camera connection kit with Apple USB Ethernet to get to the internet. It's a $70 solution :( but the iPad will negotiate both connections and look for a working gateway. I don't have a deepmind but I work a lot on designing wifi gadgets. Not 100% on this but it only depends on how the DM's wifi chip is configured and if that conflicts with how your Internet router is willing to talk over the Ethernet connection.

Great playing and use of the sounds, and it clearly has a lot of great sounds, but the whole thing just has a hazy/noisy sound to me... like tape degradation but without the lush saturation that tape gives. Just like an old worn out tape that you can't make fresh again. I'm sure many people will love it though, and I hope someone makes great music with it.

jmacatx Hmmmm I'm not hearing it. Having owned a lot of classic poly synths (including Junos and Jupiters) over 30 years, the DM12 sounds great to me. Only thing that bugs me is the four octaves.
@HTP555
@HTP555 7 жыл бұрын
What would you say is a good range in octaves? 5-6 ? I figured 4 would be good enough for me. I only have 2 octaves on my other synths, a system 1 and a minibrute. I've never been much of a classic piano player, more just a lover of synth sounds and creating them. But with 12 note poly I figured this synth's keyboard would suffice and be perfect for controlling my other's too.
@chrisstrobel3439
@chrisstrobel3439 7 жыл бұрын
ubiquitous Yes then 4 octaves will probably be fine for you 👍 I chose the keyboard version myself even though I'm a pianist as its more convienant to have a keyboard right there for programming, and its only a hundred bucks more than the desktop version 😁🎹

The DM12 can be noisy when you’re messing about with the onboard preamps and comp etc, thankfully the gate is good. It it does give you loads of headroom to achieve some really natural mic’d cab sounds. I’ve had many an excellent slap bass funk sounds out of mine, seriously funky.
