This is such an intriguing concept that I thought it warranted further exploration in my sight.

This episode is very good to me x3!... being inspired to engage in “thoughtful consideration” or, perhaps, even to prayerfully meditate on the ideas discussed herein. Wow! Being “challenged” from the pulpit by speakers who rarely inspire the mind and heart...well, I haven’t much good to say as regards their presentations for the supposed edification of their listeners. This was very good...”off the rail”? I “wot not”, but smile broadly in my heart and on my face. Again, thank you!

At about 1:05 I wonder who would catch Paul's reference of cannibalism from the old Testament. Would these new believers have someone in the group who would point this out? Who in the congregation today would have that depth of knowledge to bring the idea forth?

What about the suggestion that Paul's opponents, using Paul's eye problems to attack him as having an evil eye? He counters with " last time you did not spit" (literally in 4:15) which is still a widely used defence against the evil eye.

This podcast tells about the reality of “The Evil Eye”. I was intrigued and I was skeptical about the title; the idea that such a topic could provide a starting point for a discussion of what’s true for people who want to be directed by God’s word. [and so] What does GOD have to say [in HIS word] about “The Evil Eye”? This podcast starts out with some “small talk” between the podcast’s host and the speaker, Michael Heiser. That lasts about 7mins and 15secs or so. If you don’t want to hear that part just move the “time counter” up to 7 minutes and start from there. However, the small-talk provides a general sense of the flavor or view of “the heart” that this group of folks seem to have about life that inevitably must be lived in this world. Being happy counts! We have Truth. What the Truth provides along the way as we go about living our lives is of inestimable value. Adhering to, even submitting to the apprenticeship or discipleship provided by The Truth is something Christians continue in daily. Jesus said being His disciple and continuing in His word sets us free. It is certain: part of that freedom includes being happy and enjoying the fun/funny circumstances that lighten our hearts and provide smiling faces that hold smiling, even shining eyes. Those eyes can show the blessing of goodness and grace given as gifts from our GOD to be shared with anybody who will receive those gifts. Amen.

Very interesting. I couldn't help but think of Schroedinger's theory of quantum mechanics. That a particle remains in all states until it is observed. Then it's state is determined. The way to explain this, for those that don't know, was that Schroedinger imagined if you put a cat in a box along with poison. There was a chance that the cat would eat the poison or not eat the poison. Until you opened the box to see if the cat was alive or dead, the cat existed as both alive and dead in the box, and it was the act of opening and observing the cat that determined it's final state. A lot of this reminded me of that, especially Christ's quotes in Matthew and Luke.

I don't know if I can subscribe to the cat and box experiment to illustrate potentiality. Because what happens in the box may happen outside YOUR KNOLEDGE. You just come to know the end result WHEN you open it. Opening the box does NOT determine the outcome inside the box. Opening it is just the moment when the result gets to your knowledge. So the cat cannot exist both alive and dead in the box The observer does not know the result and has no influence on the result.

Schroedinger's fancy nonsense... They built a whole religion on the wrong conclusions of the double slit experiment...

@@shemmen1488 but the quantum mechanic equations (which work everywhere they can be tested) say the cat IS a superposition of states, some dead, some alive. At least under the Copenhagen interpretation. I hope I am accurately representing things.

Ha. Living here in NYC, I have had to become an evil eye warrior. The amount of stink eye I have had to process is almost unfathomable. I can say there is an energy at play there and I have had to learn how to deal with it. It's very real.

1 Sam 18:9 doesn't seem to have anything to do with the eye but with Saul's mind. It's more like when Saul saw David he made up his mind to dislike, pursue, oppose , harm , go after David. It's more about coordinating Saul's sight with his own thought rather than transfer negativity from one person to another.

Wasn't it Superman who could blast a light from his eyes that could melt stuff? I don't think there is any magic here, rather sometimes the intent of the heart can be seen in the eye. There is something special about looking someone in the eye. Sometimes the eyes of 2 people meet and they call it love at first sight. Or 2 people sit in front of each other and look into each others eyes and say nothing - one will usually end up looking away because its too intense or they may end up laughing- liars often look away or avoid looking someone in the eye. I don't think it is magic but more about the eyes as being a gateway to the soul or mind. A person is afraid someone will know what they are thinking or some secret in their heart if eye contact is made. Some one will say to another when they want the truth - look me in the eye and tell me.

Could this be where the scholars overly cast the bible as a contemporary ANE piece of literature which is no more credible in its conjectures and misconstruding of "natural" phenomenon and common human conceptual, magical thinking in the over all culture at the time? We cant have God giving these people revelation and facts about the world that they wouldnt already be aware of! God forbid! *sarcastic jab
