Yes absolutely. It's God sent. I battled with food addiction all my life and since it's an opiod antagonist, I connected the dots that it would help with any kind of addiction. This med is however not well known in my country, doctors don't know about it, it's never prescribed so the onus on figuririg this out was on my shoulders. I tried 50mg at first because I thought I needed everything, boy was I wrong. I gained 7kg due to severe constipation. So I left it. Years later and many tears later, I found a video in how to make your own LDN with distilled water. The effect was immediate. The appetite correction happened at the get go. I knew from that moment on that my troubles was gone, forever and ever. I have thyroid issues so this video gives me hope. I am on the right track. I also had a otc painkiller addiction so now going through a bit of withdrawal but my body doesn't want painkillers at all. Just the thought of it is nauseating. I died and gone to heaven. I have my life back. Thank you doc. You are a gem between dumb rock doctors in today's society. Love your work.

I started at 25 mg a week ago and have now moved to 50 mg. But, it is for binge eating, not generic weight loss. I would describe my experience like this. Picture a bunch of mountain peaks. Those mountain peaks are analogous to those moments when the food is in my mouth and I'm getting that rush after rush from eating all of that delicious, fatty, carby, sugary food spoonful by spoonful. Now, imagine a giant saw coming through the mountains and cutting off all of those peaks and leveling them out more. That is what Naltrexone feels like to me. I don't get the cascading rushes of whatever neurochemicals are activated while eating regardless of what I eat. I can stop now at half of my plate. I don't feel compelled to eat every last bite regardless of whether I'm full or not. I don't feel driven, if you will. I feel like I can say no and stop when I need to. Also, for others who might read this, I took it one time during the day and was light headed and really tired. I switched back to taking it at night and I don't have any of those side effects the next day. YMMV

Great description you posted! I would shovel food into my mouth chasing that flavor, texture, high too. Once on LDN, my attitude toward food changed. For once in my life, eating just enough and not more than needed became my new normal. I’ve shed thirty-six pounds in four months. I hope I can stay on LDN long term. I have ten pounds to go before I am in a normal BMI range. For me, LDN is a game changer. Thanks for your comment.

I just came across this video after starting low-dose naltrexone for chronic pain. One of the first effects I noticed of this medication is that I wasn’t getting a “hit“ after eating. I didn’t realize until I started taking this medication that I get some kind of emotional reward when I eat. And I would find that I would often over eat. In the last couple days I’ve simply put my fork down and pushed my plate away because I was done, and that is very unusual for me. I didn’t feel like I needed to eat everything on my plate, and I didn’t have cravings for sugar like I normally do. I’ve always been a normal and healthy weight, so I’m not worried about weight loss, but I’m coming to believe I might’ve had a little bit of a food addiction that I was completely unaware of. It’s not that I enjoy food any less, because I still really enjoy the food. It’s that I had some kind of dopamine hit or some other kind of reward that was happening in my brain after eating that no longer exists, while I am simultaneously feeling much more content and happy with eating smaller amounts of food. It’s very interesting, and I actually really like it. I feel a lot better, and I didn’t even feel like I felt bad before. … I guess sometimes you don’t know you’re feeling bad until you feel better, and sometimes you don’t realize that you might have a problem with food until the problem you didn’t know about disappears. It’s very strange. 😂

@@jesshatchette Certain herbs may be helpful in weight loss, but only under certain circumstances. Before using a supplement, it's important to check with your doctor to make sure that you don't have hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism, or an underactive thyroid gland (underactive thyroid is not uncommon), will slow down your metabolism, making it difficult to lose weight and maintain a healthy bodyweight. If you have hypothyroidism, you should consult with your doctor before taking any herbal extracts; doing so may actually exacerbate symptoms of hypothyroidism and cause additional health problems.

Naltrexone is used by alcoholics it's called the Sinclair Method. It suppresses the reward centre of the brain. I found that food was kind of boring. Previously I wouldn't be able to stop myself with one chip I would have to have the whole packet. It made me realise alcohol and certain foods act exactly the same on the brain. Sinclair method is you aren't supposed to take it and avoid alcohol you are suppose to take it and then have alcohol (can be done for sugary foods too). Do this enough times and you begin to associate that particular food with boredom. The catch is you can't eat that food without taking Naltrexone otherwise you will have a huge hit of dopamine and feel a crazy high. Instead when not taking it workout or do exercise so you get a dopamine hit from doing that. Get addicted to things that will help your health and make the addictive things boring.

I am about 12 hours past my first dose just noticed a reduction in my back pain. I picked up my heavy computer bag, which usually hurts, and nope. Nothing. No pain. I also noticed my sleep was deeper, which could be why I'm not hurting. Maybe it's a placebo effect, because that feels really quick, but even so I'm happy with it. Hi Dr Childs, I recently started on Naltrexone for alcohol addiction. I have had an autoimmune disorder for the past 8 years called Granuloma Annulare. It’s a skin condition which went systemic. I’ve noticed an almost total reduction in the raised wart type eruptions, redness and itching I experience. For me it’s the best thing that has happened. Im on a .75-1 mg dose .

I'm VERY hesitant to add prescription drugs, since many unhelpful ones have been recommended to me throughout the years. Thank you for this video as it alleviated my fears about giving this a try. This sounds like a miracle drug, so that makes me a little skeptical. I am hopeful for the first time in a while, and wish this was an option years ago as I'm 20 years into this struggle. Sidenote, my foot surgeon wants me on a biologic for arthritis which he saw the beginning stages of during a recent toe fusion. I'm hoping this is a better option for inflammation. I Understand stand what you are saying about Contrave expense like $300 for one month. Likely compounding the neltroxone at pharmacy is expensive addong maybe $75 so that a littke bit defeats the purpose of avoiding contrave. Plus the 6-8 mg nel ( which is in the contrave) is more than what this Dr mentions in his video. Also notice this doctor suggests taking at night. Neltroxone is not expensive but compounding is. Another option is ssk your doctor to scribe the 50mg then follow guide how to compound it yourself. There is some fellow on yt that shows how he is compounding his own. Just search compounding neltroxone low dose. It should bring up a man who takes it for thyroid disease and his son takes it as well. This guy also discussed how alternating dosages works well for him. Also if you notice loss of benefit skip a day he says. Also another detail I see repeated in the use of neltroxone but for cancer fighting element is that if used daily, it looses its best effect. Some doctors I read pulse it on three days off three days. The pulsing somehow stimulates your own body to pick up doing its own work. Interesting is I see other even over the counter drugs being pulsed for more effective impact compared to solid block loosing the intended affect.

This med is helping distal leg pain from connective tissue disease. Def.decreases appetite and makes my mood cheerful. Have been on 4 mg x 2 weeks. Have lost 4 pds without even trying. Feel fit, happy and healthy. Aches MUCH less.

I took 50mg (as prescribed for binge eating) one day last weekend and I had severe gastric issues and panic/anxiety. I assumed I had food poisoning or it was the medicine. I didn’t try another dosage until my stomach issues cleared up. I feel better this weekend and took one pill last night. I woke up from a severe panic attack in the middle of night. The panic attack was so horrible that I thought I needed to go to the ER. I eventually fell back asleep and feel fine today. I never remember my dreams but I remembered my dreams from last night. I also never wake up quickly in the morning. I’m usually so exhausted I can’t move in the mornings. It can take me hours to get out of bed (I also suffer from autoimmune disease) but today I woke up early and cleaned house. I had such an awful reaction to this drug; yet, I also had an amazing reaction to this drug all from just one dose. Are panic attacks normal when taking this drug?

Ask your doctor is you can half the dose until you adjust? Most people are using the low dose compounded form.

I had the amazing reaction without the negative. My doctor was emphatic about taking it just after eating. I have a protein bar 1st thing in the morning and take the pill right after. Not sure if that is the reason that I haven’t had issues.

@@TJS11420 still doing that dosage and timing.. am: 150 mg Wellbutrin + 25mg naltrexone. And then I repeat that in the early afternoon. however, this week I made a huge mistake and had the exact reaction described in the comment from @anoack1980. I think it was a combination of things…. I hadn’t been eating that healthy that day and then took it without food. It was horrible.

Hi Dr Childs, great video. I have just started taking Contrave (bupropion/naltrexone mix) What do you think of this? I have bad depression/anxiety so was hoping it would help with obesity binge eating and depression. Would love your thoughts. I have taken naltrexone on it’s own 50mg to reduce my drinking alcohol intake and it really really worked for that

I’m still on anti-depressants though but after serious obsessive research I intend to use nutrition to heal my body and my brain now. Under the guidance of doctors I intend to come off the anti depression medications if I can. Check out Dr Georgia Ede KZbin videos. She’s a psychiatrist and researcher using nutrition and foods too.

Question Doc... I'm currently on Phentermine... I've lost 17 lbs since starting this medicine (end of July 2019). Total weight loss of 24 lbs since October 2018. The Phentermine just makes me not hungry... Which is great... But I'm also concerned about long term results... Would LDN be better for longer term use? I have Hashimotos but of course my thyroid levels are in normal range...

You will most likely gain all of your weight back once you stop the phentermine. You can read more here and see stories from other patients in the comments (there are over 100 comments on this post: www.restartmed.com/phentermine/

Sadly he is correct. I would taper off if it. The weight will come back on because you may become tolerant to it and need higher doses, which is unsafe.
