I'm 55 years old... I heard this song on the radio and fell in love with it the first time I heard it when it came out! Thank you Natalie!!! This works because of nanananananana, but also the beauty of her voice and the simplicity of the lyrics ❤❤❤

Great reaction, beautiful song. I saw Natalie Merchant open for Chris Isaak in 2001 and when she sang this it was magical. Love Natalie's voice, you'll see her live performances are just as good as the recordings. The best song from the Ophelia album worth checking out is the third single, Life is Sweet.

Love her! Trouble Me and These are Days by her band 10,000 Maniacs and her solo songs River and Carnival are wonderful! 😊❤

Natalie's voice is like a warm hug from a loved one. It brings me joy and comfort. Wonder and Carnival are next. There's more but those are probably the bigger ones. Then there is all the 10,000 Maniacs stuff (her prior band). That this video has so few views makes me question humanity. That Linda Ronstadt has so many views restores some of my faith though.

I saw Natalie Merchant twice and both concerts were amazing. The first was the Lilith Fair and while the other ladies were wonderful, the evening belonged to Natalie! My cousins in the Native American women's acapella band Ulali were in talks to be on the Lilith Fair after releasing one of the most monumental albums in Native American history, Mahk Jchi, but the Lilith Fair apparently wasn't interesting in showcasing American Indian women. However, the Indigo Girls stepped up and took Ulali on tour instead.

She’s got so many great songs but this one will always be specials to me. My best friend who has since passed and his own lyrics to this song he’d sub in and it makes me smile to this day. ❤

Ophilia was a character in Shakespeare’s Hamlet, so that might be where you’ve heard the name. This entire album is amazing.

I really appreciate your observations on music generally--but particularly for Natalie Merchant (how easily "na na na" could go flat, but she makes it work so easily). You should definitely listen to the song Opehlia from this album (you'll learn why natalie is the' female cannonball figure here, and a "goddamned hurricane" in another). From the next album--you should start with "This House is on Fire" and then "Motherland".

This is the song I always think of when I think of her work. Catchy. BTW: I have tried several times to find your movie channel. I am unable to. Could there be some delay from you beginning it and uploading it to it reaching the masses?

Thanks so much for reacting to this👏🏾💫 I’ve been waiting AGES for one. First became acquainted with her as a 10 year old skipping between MTV & VH1 in ‘97- LOVED TF outta her song ‘Carnival’ but then this single hit & it’s chart rankings shock me bc it literally played ALL THE TIME between 97 & 98 on VH1 and the radio. It’s a gorgeous song and total sentimental fave right behind ‘Carnival’ & ‘These Are The Days’ when she fronted 10,000 Maniacs. I remember CRACKING TF UP when Michael Scott used it as his personal exit/departure soundtrack when he prematurely assumed he got promoted and was leaving ‘The Office’ he whips out his little cassette recorder and pushes play & it’s KIND AND GENEROUS- it was ridiculous aF and silly but also hilariously affective because I SAW his vision- I got the vibe he strove for- and he pulled it off in a way. Like, It was funny in a dramatically ironic way BUT HAD I BEEN THERE IRL he def would’ve gotten me choked tF up🤌🏾😭… who am I kidding lol I drunkenly cried that same night to this song and thinking how, yeah- I’d def want the same outro song lol. So meticulous, that Michael🤣🙌🏾💕
