Recently I’ve sort of been going down the rabbit hole of KZbin decluttering videos, to the point that almost every video in my recommended section is a mom and her spiffy lookin closet (it’s great, I love it). All that to say, out of all the videos I’ve watched, your channel has got to be one of my absolute favorites!!! I’m not really the demographic for the mom vids (I’m 19), but the decluttering content has really filled a void that I did not know existed. I’ve so far Marie Kondo-ed my whole room and closet, and I finally convinced my mom to let me tackle the beast that is our attic!! Decluttering is making me super happy, and I just wanted to say thank you for all the fantastic content you put out. It’s super motivating and inspiring and brings me so much peace and joy ❤️

Ever since Ive been in quarantine, its made me realize that a lot of us live our lives to impress others with the materialist things we own, whether it be designer clothes, expensive jewelry, the biggest and most expensive things dont often bring joy, we often do it to show off/impress others, we want people to think that we have it all and that we have it all together, when really ITS OKAY to not have it all. Clutter also plays a big part in all of it as well, when there are less things, you will be less overwhelmed and more content.

I agree. Using a kindle has meant I don't keep many hard copy books except for those in my specific interest: Russian art, architecture, history, jewels, imperial fashions and imperial estates. These have lots of color photos and Kindle just doesn't "do it" for those types of books. The other thing I sort of collect is jewelry. I have two four tier jewelry boxes, one wood, the other bought in layers at BBBeyond. The jewelry is stuffed in them but it is NOWHERE else. I do not leave it out on display because that causes tarnish on the silver and it gets too dusty. I esp like Native American turquoise and Russian amber. Other than those two types of things, that's it. I have a yarn stash that gets constantly used and I have a large executive desk with my polymer clay studio on it. Other than that I do not decorate for seasons except Christmas so I don't have lots of decor in bins. I don't keep tons of drink cups for travel, don't have more than 12 pairs of shoes including winter boots (I live in FL but keep those for emergency trips north), few clothes except for tees that get hard use in FL for nine months of the year.....we don't have a ton of extra kitchen equipment that do redundant tasks.

Whenever I am done with a painting job I pour the paint into mayo, pickle or other jars and I label and store them. It's best to use a jar about the size of the paint so there is not a lot of air in there. Paint cans dry up and get rusty and when you need the touch up in a couple years it's no good. I live in a cold climate so I keep each jar in the closet of the room I used the paint or in my laundry room. If I have half gallons or so left I try to mix them and use it up painting closets or garages or I donate to Habitat. So I keep NO paint cans.

As far as wrapping paper, I've started collecting the brown paper that comes in Amazon boxes then I get jute twine from dollar tree and it makes really cute very low waste (or zero waste if you don't use tape and reuse the string) alternative.
@virginiasoskin9082
@virginiasoskin9082 4 жыл бұрын
My Mom lived through the great Depression and saved rubber bands, string, twine, paper bags. She washed and reused plastic bags. I know of people who just get white tissue paper or a white roll of banquet table paper and use that for all gift wrap. A few holiday specific rubber stamps and a few ink pads can be used to decorate the paper, or have the kids draw on the boxes with markers. Cheap crinkle ribbon or colored twine. We have a bag of bows we use every Christmas and save them from year to year and reuse them. We don't buy new books as Christmas gifts unless we have to; our family pact that used books are fine; this keeps paper out of landfills and saves trees. We make Christmas gift tags from last years' Christmas cards using a round cookie cutter to trace around. You don't have to spend a ton of money on wrap. I ONLY ever buy gift wrap on sale after Christmas on deep discount.

Your series has really inspired me to declutter my house. It’s tiny with practically zero closet space, so I didn’t think there’d be much. But omgosh there was a TON of junk crammed into the corners 🙈 Feeling so much better with everything cleaned out and reorganized. Having easy access to those “put away” places makes it so much easier to keep the house picked up! The biggest clutter source was definitely the infant equipment what with the swing and bouncy seat and bumbo and outgrown clothes all hogging storage and floor space. I’m having to wait until the state reopens to donate, but I’ve got my eye on a brand new crisis center in my area. Hopefully it’s open soon. I want my living room back 😂😂 thanks for the inspiration and practical approach!

You might want to give them a call if you haven't already. The child foster/women's crisis centers in my area are actively still taking donations right now even if their thrift stores are closed. They might only have limited hours for drop-offs though.

Love it! Finally someone who has "stuff" in their garage just like I do. You show the real life stuff-including kid mess. I was hoping I would get further along in my garage before hot weather settled in where I live-but the 90's have arrived. I love how you and your hubs work together. My hubs and I are like oil and water. We spend way more time arguing about how to get it done than actually getting it done! His version of organizing is 2 steps-toss everything or chuck it all together in a bin put the lid on it and don't ever go in it ever again (aka outta sight outta mind). I'm the over-thinker and perfectionist and want it super organized, labeled, etc. I take so much time planning and thinking I rarely get what I want done before I have to drop the project and go fix dinner, or do the laundry, or go run errands.

Great job! We are retired and have a very small two-car garage so we have little storage. We have a peg board for lawn tools (saws, clippers, etc.) and several wall holders for rakes. I have another holder at the door to the kitchen with my cleaning tools like brooms, brushes, etc. A metal tool box on rollers, a small fiberboard shelf with fertilizers and car stuff, and the rest like ladders and 3 totes of Christmas items are on wall hooks or shelves we installed. We DO park our cars in the garage every night. During the COVID time, our neighbors rented a garbage skip and emptied out their garage and filled that whole skip. They have five cars in the driveway every night and still don't park any inside the garage. We could not believe they filled up that entire skip. Wow. One guy in the neighborhood has a man cave in his garage (I can often hear sports on the TV), and it is barricaded up with STUFF. UGH. We moved here ten years ago from beachside in FL and I decluttered twice before putting that house up for sale. When we got here we donated a lot of furniture we just didn't need or have room for. If and when we move to assisted living we will get rid of our dining room table, chairs and china hutch. And probably our LR furniture, and just keep our den furniture (quarter sawn oak Amish made mission style). Our daughter's bedroom doubles as my "office" and craft area; another bedroom is my husband's office with a trundle day bed. The third bedroom is just for guests, but we do have a NordicTrak in there. We have moved several times and we recently counted the number of sofas we had in our married life, and I think it was nine. So yeah, you go through stuff and accumulate, but gosh, once the kids are grown it does free up a lot of space and you can get rid of a lot. To everything is a season. The only holiday I decorate for is Christmas. So I don't keep a lot of seasonal decor; I don't keep much decor at all except for family heirlooms or things I have made myself -- paintings, embroidered samplers, etc. I keep things very minimal, though we do have a good number of items on display. One small shelf on a bookshelf I keep really tiny things like Russian Palekh boxes, religious doodads people have made or we have bought on trips, some tiny whittled wooden figures my grandparents bought in Europe. That is restricted to one shelf. Don't keep indoor plants b/c we have cats.

Yay! Someone else who is scared to do their garage. I've been tackling mine bit by bit. Really need to build a storage wall like you have for your tubs, that's the one big thing holding me back. Don't have the wood for it and don't want to leave till this whole ordeal is over. That and all my donations are piling up out there since I can't drop them off. Dump stuff however is easy to get rid of. Thank you so much for all the amazing videos and being real with it, showing your boys room had me rolling since I have 2 boys as well and it just amazes me how messy the room can get. I've still got to tackle that as well. Also don't know how to do emoji's on here but I've been watching from the beginning and loved it the whole way.

Watching these videos makes me realise how naturally minimalist I've become, possibly because I've moved house so many times in the last 10 years (about 10 times) so have naturally decluttered once a year. We've now finally bought a house so should be staying for some time and I'm desperate not to acquire a load of junk we don't need! Slowly getting there with organising/maximising storage spaces and making our home feel simple and beautiful but it seems there's always more to do! Right, I'd better stop procrastinating and start sorting out our spare room!

If you have a thing for wrapping paper, perhaps this will be a fun idea: my in-laws' wrapping paper game! Every year, save two identical pieces from each new wrapping paper you get on gifts (or buy yourself, assuming you use it that year), glue them to index cards, and make a matching game! Add to it every year and it's a fun tradition that just keeps growing. I also like to mark who gave us that paper and what year on one of the cards. It's a fun trip down memory lane each year when we pull it out. My sister-in-law goes crazy and buys way too much wrapping paper because she loves the game, but I just can't use it up that fast, so I actively avoid the wrapping paper aisle so I'm not tempted (I failed this year), because we get plenty of variety each year already.

You've really inspired me to tackle my garage. I feel like I re-organize it every couple of months just to have it look insane again as time goes by. This is the kick I needed to just get rid of all the extra "just in case" stuff and random odds and ends. Also, I like how you just went for it without having a really defined plan. That's one of the things that always trips me up before I even start. But, it's totally okay to just flow with it. :-)

We’ll do our garage next weekend, usually we declutter and clean it each year in May :) However we still have a 1000sqfoot basement to do with similar things: kids’ stuff, paints, equipment, big-big pantry and deep freezer, men’s cave, wine cellar... since I have my 2year-old I only get there for minutes (not safe place for a child). Hope we get to tackle it one day, I will need my hubby too...and some free hours. Great job, Natalie, as always 💪🏻🤗

We did our garage last weekend. It feels SO good to get rid of the junk! All 3 bedrooms (that house my 8 kids) are decluttered and reorganized. It is so satisfying! I've enjoyed the few videos I've watched, as I've just recently discovered you!

Hahaha guys are so funny. But Wes was actually being 100% sarcastic. He agreed with me on how bad it was, he just facetiously said “it’s not that bad” wink wink lol

🤟🏼wow! Excellent transformation. I liked that hubby helped. I’ve been waiting for this one. I’ve seen all of your series. You have motivated so much. Right now home schooling is taking a lot of my time. I would corralled all your car stuff in a basket/container. I would like to see a follow up on the other areas that you have done.

🤘your declurtering videos is how I found your channel! I love how real you have been during this process. I have been a minimalist for 3 years now. We are a family of 3 living in a 500 sq ft home. Dept free! Its not easy I wish we had more room most days. But its so easy to clean up. I love watching your declurtering videos for motivation. Also an awesome tip I hear one time and it stuck was the 20 20 rule. If your stuck on an item can I replace it in 20min? And is it under $20. If yes get rid of it. I have used this so much and LOVE it. I have never had to repurchase anything!

Wish I could declutter my garage, but my husband doesn't see the mess the same as I do. My husband is a pilot, so his Piper Cub is in the building, more than a regular garage. It also stores lumber that we've collected our the years. But the area I find claustrophobic is the area where our 2 cars are parked. You're fortunate to have your husband on board.🤟

We put larger items right at the curb and it is usually gone by the time garbage is picked up. If not, the garbage crew takes it. Done. Gone. Just this once if Goodwill doesn't answer the phone, let it go to the garbage. Then you are rid of it at least.

@@melanieclark7949 Yes, but if you put it out on garbage day or the night prior to garbage day, someone can take it and if not, garbage takes it. If it's a big item you can call to arrange a pick up. No need to leave trash at the curb. Ever.

Don’t feel too bad about your wrapping paper situation... I probably have way over 100 rolls in our basement. 🙈🤷🏻‍♀️ I can’t help myself, it’s just so fun to get each year (always on sale). And wrapping is my favorite part of gift-giving 🥰
