1. Your hair shed a lot. Will lead to clogged drains. 2. Your hair grows up and not down. In other words the shrinkage is real. 3. You don't need to get your hair trimmed. 4. Use protective styles but listen to your hair. Find out what your hair likes and don't like. 5. Your curl pattern will change the longer it gets.

Trims are such an unnecessary evil; most of the time, our ends are just frizzy and not split. As a Cosmetologist, I realized that trims are not helpful if you want long hair. It's better to keep a protein and moisture balance and seal your ends when you style your hair. Of course, I understand that some people love the look of freshly trimmed or cut hair; however, it is not needed for healthy long hair. This is just what I've personally found to be accurate; I also realized that during the awkward stage of hair growth, the ends look thin, but that's only because our hair does not grow the same all over. You have to give the strands time to catch up to one another; then, your hair will look thick at the ends. I think this is why protective styles help so much; it helps keep us patient, our hands out of our hair, and out of the salon 😅😁.

You're right, hair grows at different speeds so will not be even. I personally don't like the blunt cut and , I like The Feathered look so I'm okay with the way my hair looks and of course when it's curled you don't even notice the ends. Once a stylist wanted to trim and I ask why and she said for split ends and I ask where? Then she looked at my ends and she couldn't find any so she said well they just look funny. I'm like I like funny so leave them alone.

I just happened to read this comment. Girl, I hope that this comment gets several likes. I watched countless videos with folks doing trims every other month and wondering why their hair has been the same length for 2 or 3 yrs. Lol. If you stop chopping off your hair every darn month maybe it will grow. Lol.

I have my hubby "snake our drain 2x month" bc we have myself + 3 girls (Japanese & native American coarse curly thick long hair- my 1/2 sister daughter- for real the MOST gorgeous in our family is Japanese & 1/2 black [African, Jamaican & Islander] yet her hair is long, less course & loose curly tresses TO DIE FOR, that Native hair is like hemp if braided, i swear. My eldest is ONLY 1 with straight very light brown hair & girl has nerve to want curls, bleach & color, etc & she sees myself & time spent 2x week (MANY hours) caring for our hair... I'm just blessed my girls value their heritage & quick to correct ppl (esp 'a woke Karen's daughter' whom WORST hair day was day her straighter broke- girl NVR had a crook neck a day in her life, let alone EVERY "wash day")when come at em "its wrong to braid your hair..." My girls know indigenous peoples around the world wore braids, rows, locs FOR CENTURIES & for practical purposes & it takes WORK to maintain natural hair!! All parents w/ kids who cant just wash, brush & go DESERVE 🏆 for maintaining & teaching generational tricks of the trade. My mama had to learn bc her Native hair is perfectly thick, long& straight yet a bit coarse...My daddy's Asian dna of thick curly hair made my head "beautiful CHAOS" & my hubby is Kiowa Pawnee so it just added to their ethnic beauty!!! I'm STILL proud of hazel eyes from my 1/8 french Canadian grandfather ancestor who was SO PROUD a native woman stole his ❤, took him OVER a year to learn HER language & he NVR returned to Europe, his love, life & legacy remain here-STILL!!

Your hair isn't shedding a ton because it's long. Your hair is shedding a ton because you keep it braided and the shed hairs are just piled up because they can't shed in the braids. My hair is 3 inches away from tailbone (4a/3c, medium density). I get a quarter size worth of shedding each wash day, but I wash and deep condition without fail once a week, and wear my hair out.

Wonder why that happens to so many people. I had a relaxer, not curly hair, when my trim ended up being five in so I know she knew what she was doing. She could see clearly. Everyone else noticed too. No point when everyone is complimenting your haircut and you keep saying I had a trim and then you see the Expressions on their faces! In my case , I think it was done on purpose and I have never ever since then allowed anyone to trim my hair. I do it myself using the Search and Destroy method. No split ends or damage, no shears or trimming.

1. Excessive shedding/clogging tub 2. Hair grows up (1st) then down 3. Twist & trim -No salon needed 4. Figure out YOUR growth method: w&g, ps, wigs or weave 5. Texture changes w/length

My hair grew wearing buns. I alternate between a bun and a wash and go and the occasional ponytail or blow outs in the fall. I do not recommend the blowouts and hair straightening. If you want to straighten your hair use a ceramic plate straight iron. Tournulane and metal plates damaged my hair. Good luck with your journeys. This video was great!

To me, shedding depends on 3 things: 1. How moisturized your hair is, 2. How long it’s been since it was combed or brushed through (removing naturally shed hair, that is supposed to shed and 3. If your ends are healthy or split. I have 3C/4A fine, but dense hair (a lot of strands per inch so it’s thick) and is bra strap length straight, ear length curly and just barely shoulder grazing length curly and stretched. There have been times when I had really been on point with my routine for months, that I lose a shockingly small amount of hair on wash day. There haven’t been times when it seemed like ALL of my hair came out on wash day (ends way overdue for a trim AND went much longer then normal between washes, so shed hair was just sitting in my hair and all came out during detangling). I don’t believe, that you shed more hair just because your hair is long (length being the only factor).

I'm so thankful that there are products that either cover the drain or are inserted into the drain to keep your hair from clogging the drain! They catch most of the hair and I check mine every wash to clean it. My daughter's hair is very curly and seems to grow in a spiral which means you won't see the growth as easily as you do on mine. My hair is just wavy, so growth is visible immediately.
