NBA All-Star Game Confirms American Basketball Is Dead; Jason Whitlock Can Fix It | Ep 624

“Michael Jordan was serving up full-course meals while LeBron James and the players now are serving up burgers and fries.” All-Star weekend left a bad taste in the sports world’s mouth - including Jason’s, who unpacks the surrounding universal discontent with that hot mess. Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game was just the latest in a decades-long series of obituaries detailing the tragic passing of American hoops. Despite a promise to deliver a more competitive All-Star Game, Sunday’s contest may have been the worst in history. Men’s basketball is dead. Silver cannot resuscitate what his predecessor, commissioner David Stern, killed. How do you go from Michael Jordan playing all 82 regular-season games in nine of his 15 seasons to begging players to play 65? You create an anti-American culture that seduces multimillionaires into believing they’re victims of racist capitalists, that's how. The NBA needs a revolutionary war and makeover. Adam Silver is not the right leader for this war. He’s a peacetime consigliere. He’s not built for the kind of upheaval necessary to fix the NBA. Have no fear, Jason has devised a solution that may well be the NBA’s last hope if it ever wants to return to its former glory. Plus, Steve Kim joins “Fearless” to share his thoughts on the state of the NBA, and Shemeka Michelle weighs in on the rumor mill surrounding Texans QB C.J. Stroud, Amber Rose, and the Kardashians.

Gonna disagree and argue that Steph is the one who killed it with his half court bombs. He effectively destroyed midrange, paint position jostling basketball. Young kids used to dream about playing like Jordan and Kobe. Now they want to play like Steph. As soon as they step on the court they head for that 3 point line. No physicality, no fundamentals, too much spacing. Just high screen and rolls and kick outs for corner 3s. There is no edge to the game anymore.

David Stern didn’t quite kill the NBA but he left it on life support. Adam Silver has killed it off with every single move he has made. From forcing Donald Sterling to sell his franchise to acquiescing to the players wanting social justice slogans on the court as well as their uniforms. From the COVID shutdown to the bubble playoffs. Everything he has done has disenfranchised more fans to the point that there are more NBA fans outside the USA than there are in the USA.

I haven't watched an NBA 'all-star' game in at least a decade. Jason I agree with your analysis 100%. Your ideas on how to restructure and re-create the league are solid, but as you said, Adam Silver is not the man to lead that sort of cultural battle. Is anyone in the NBA front office capable of executing such a task? Perhaps the solution could come from some American entrepreneurs who love and respect the traditions of American basketball, and start a whole new league. Also, if 82 regular season games are too much stress on athletes bodies, that's fine, play a 60 game season then and pay them accordingly as long as they go out and COMPETE NIGHT IN AND NIGHT OUT.

This ball got rolling by Greg "woke" Popavich. He's the one that started the load management garbage with his Spurs teams. Then all the other teams followed suit. Actually, load management was started by RudyT with the rockets in 95. They tanked the second half of the season, let players rest and then suddenly everyone was ready for the playoffs and they were fresh and won the title from the 6 seed. They tried it again in 98, but the Jazz took them out in the first round, but only barely. I really do not think RudyT cared one damn bit about integrity. My definition of racialism: The exploitation of race, tribal and ethnic identification or national orgin to advance a polical, social or cultural objective, usually illegitimate in it's intent.
