One of the most heated rivalries back in the 90s. I miss rivalries like this because of the animosity and hatred towards each other. We need more rivalries like this again besides Boston-Miami. It’s good to see NY-Indiana rivalry revived again. P.S.: the NBA is returning to NBC after next season and I’ll be watching every single game on NBC/Peacock.

This Knicks team was a championship team. They simply ran into a more battle-tested Chicago Bulls team in this series, and that experience paid off all the way to the Bulls third straight championship.

First of 3 straight 60 win teams. The bulls played in the ECF. In fact? The last 4 championship teams. 93,96-98. Faced a 60 win team. In every conference/nba finals. Except the 98 pacers. Who were 58-24! Id say every last team including the pacers? Was championship caliber!

Actually it’s the best example because people today don’t think bigs could shoot at all. If you took those bigs like Ewing or Hakeem and said “hey we need you to be able to hit the 3” they would be able to do it. The only difference is back then coaches did not want that shot

Take lessons NBA of today….. the middy is where you strike fear in your opponents because the release is too quick or you are two dribbles from the basket at all times with a lethal middy attack! If you want to watch the NBA to learn / acquire skills come here. If you want to watch for entertainment then Go watch today’s NBA! I learned my game from the 80’s and 90’s NBA. It was all fundamentals every NBA player first moves then if the fundamentals didn’t work, they would go into their bag for crazy worrrrk and creativity, The elite had a deep bag, like Pippen and Ewing. I loved John Starks in this series…. Just a solid point guard who could SCORE. Point guards could score back then, John Starks is proof… He couldn’t miss in this game. A totally dominant scoring point guard is of the likes of A.I. - He is the NBA’s evolution of point guard scoring like crazy.

Jordan shot like crap (40%) for that entire series. His shooting lines by game: Game 1 - 10 for 27 Game 2 - 12 for 32 Game 3 - 3 for 18 Game 4 - 18 for 30 (his one good shooting game) Game 5 - 11 for 24 (his one ok shooting game) Game 6 - 8 for 24 This is the part of the Jordan lore everyone likes to forget. MJ chucked up the ball a LOT to get his points, but he was usually bailed out by the refs often enough to save his scoring efficiency by shooting far more FTs than anyone else.

@@JakeKoenig Imagine if Lebron shot like that in a Series (omg bailed out by Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant, and BJ Armstong!!!) Shooting 3 for 18 after being down 2-0 is anything but clutch...MJ did make up for it though against the Suns averaging 41 ppg. But that was a much softer team than the Knicks.

Game is hella physical , the Knicks big men were legit outside of Ewing a lot of muscle out there .. I see a lot of skill out there casuals only think that the new nba is way more skilled than the 90’s and after watching this game and a few others that narrative is false .

The Knicks were the top team in the East that year and started this series winning the first two games. Riley took full advantage of the defensive rules in place at the time and the games were intensely physical. A great series.

Notice how you rarely saw MJ driving into the paint... These youngins know nothing about Ewing Oakley and Mason! 3 beasts Jordan had to contend with every year

This is exactly HOW you get beat. The Knicks really thought they were going to win that year, they just didn't know HOW to win, they knew HOW to lose and beat themselves but they kept the winners on the bench like Mason, Rolando Blakman, and got rid of key guys like Mark Jackson and Gerald Wilkins along with Xavier McDaniel -- keep that team together they easily beat the Bulls in '93 .... You see Chicago didn't just get rid of guys, they kept building after 1988, 1989, and 1990 but even into '93 you see Darrell Walker, Trent Tucker, and had key contributions from Stacey King, even though they lost Cliff Levingston and upon even Jordan retiring, you see Jerry Krause picked up Pete Myers, Luc Longley, Steve Kerr and then they had Ron Harper, so you have to build around your core and Chicago did that well, even with having Jordan but what did the Knicks do when they finally had a team with Ewing? No Mark Jackson, Gerald Wilkins, Xavier McDaniel ... just those 3 guys at that time would make any team a championship contender. Something else. Pippen came up big in games 5-6 and played really solid in game 3 holding things down well and just the 1992-93 Bulls were the most settled and mature among the first 3 title teams.

This was probably the last great Bulls-Knicks playoff series. Sure, their series 1994 was a thriller even w/o MJ, but the Knicks had no chance in 1996, not like in 1992 and 1993.

Judging by how the Bulls almost swept the Heat in 97 ECF, which was a Knicks clone, don't see how the Knicks would beat Chicago.. unless Ewing would turn into Dirk 2011 with going unstoppable, which wasn't gonna happen with Pats knees.. Also the NBA wasnt interested in the Knicks beating MJ in the playoffs at all. Crucial call against the Knicks was bound to happen if it reached game 6 or 7.@@Classicbasketballdvds
