I like you Dr Mike but you were really being facetious with this one, you know exactly what Huberman means when he says a strong spine and the benefits of a strong neck. Also for Men not on gear like you their neck is unlikely to grow without direct neck trainer which can lead to an unaesthetic jaw to neck to shoulder ratio. Furthermore the thick neck equals sleep apnea myth needs to be debunked, it’s high body fat that often causes sleep apnea, a lean well muscled make with a 18inch neck is not going to develop sleep apnea, but an obese man with an 18 + inch neck most likely will, this shouldn’t be surprising to anyone.

I think what he was trying to say was that having a strong spine equates to stability in your center of gravity. I'm getting into back training and I can attest that nutrition affects you in interesting ways once you've targeted a muscle group in that area You get bizarre hot flashes throughout the night, but I would attribute this to psoas more than I do to your neck. If you can imagine, you're influencing your circadian rhythm and posture in different ways than what you're familiar with, meaning that your parasympathetic nervous system is adjusting to match. Kidney functions, liver, your bone marrow, and finally CSB are being chemically altered by stress- the good kind Heck, I work up a serious sweat when I stretch these muscle groups. The more you do this, the more the fibers get access to nutrition and hydration instead of holding onto inactivity. You become far more elastic in your workouts and the exhaustion trigger is lessened making it so that you can go longer I remember years ago when I first started put doing deadlifts and lat pulldowns, I felt like there was I vice around my neck. My brain wanted to do a full set, but my muscles didn't have the clearance to work with me. This is why I tell people not to get discouraged during prolonged intervals of inactivity. Your body requires strength _conditioning_ and this is the mere start of your training What I hate about all these self help fitness gurus is that they treat exercise like it's the best kept secret. It's actually an ongoing process of your life regardless of whether you sit behind a desk. When you treat excercise like a stretch goal on your job, you're gearing youreslf for new avenues in your life experience. Its about conditioning your animal for burdens and different hardships which may influence your stability. Again your muscle groups tell a story about your emotional well being Fitness isn't something you just arrive at, you're constantly dealing with the pull of estrogenic-testosterone influence. To be truly tough, you must target muscle groups like you are weather proofing a house. A little here, a little there, and with as much overhead as you can muster like it's a natural activity in your home life. My dad was like this. If he was at home, he was either budgeting or tuning something around the house. He was never without cause in his routine. Although I guess the majority of people already have a regiment like his I think it's these get rich quick qurus that want you to obtain explosive growth because they want to be rewarded for what they know, not how they've applied their strength in the real world

I specifically train my neck to avoid injuries since I do MMA. Strengthening the muscles in this area helps cushion blows to the head, which reduces the risk of brain rattling. It also helps prevent neck injuries from grappling. However, overtraining the neck can be detrimental, so it’s best to do a little bit of neck work after your workouts there's no need to dedicate an entire day to it.

Socially talked to a doc studying sleep issues, about neck training; I avoid direct anterior training is pretty much it, given the SCMs are such weird multitasking muscles, you can work them without anterior flexing movements that fire up throat-adjacent “-hyoid” muscles. he said this made sense as to muscle development and sleep impairment. But strong, muscularly responsive necks are super important in impact sports and in life, in concussion and spine damage risk, and isometric movements can help there without hypertrophy per se.
@m7rayven1954 күн бұрын
Do you refer to flexing your neck towards your chest? Why is that a problem? Thx
@NGAOPC4 күн бұрын
@@m7rayven195 yup; there are muscles closer around your throat (names ending mostly in hyoid but there’s a lot), that in getting developed along with the larger outer muscles, can take up space your throat itself uses. I personally just avoid anterior movement entirely because I have really reactive muscles around my chin that make me look bad 😏. I do lateral work too (iso because of a past pinched nerve), that hits the SCMs as well, but I may add back some forward isometric holds with a different orientation of neck flexion to try and take the throat muscles out of the movement. In general just use harness, hands and a wall.

I couldn't do weights because I'd very easily get over 90kg and then I'd be at full heavyweight at 183cm, so I'd train my neck but not excessively. Mind you, your channel isn't really aimed at chunky boxers. If I dropped a lot of body fat I'd get weak but couldn't drop to light heavyweight.

What is Christianity about? Christianity is the only religion that restores our broken relationship with God (John 14:6). In the beginning, when God created everything, God also made the first two people, Adam and Eve (Genesis 1:27). They had a perfect relationship with God, their Creator. They, however chose to disobey God. God, being a just God, punished them for their sin (Genesis 3). Since Adam and Eve sinned, every person, including you and me, has sinned too (Romans 3:23). Our relationship with God is broken. We all are going to die one day, and appear before God for judgement (Hebrews 9:27). Because of our sin we will be thrown into hell forever. (Matthew 25:41) God has, because of His great mercy, provided a way that our relationship with Him can be restored. God sent His only Son, Jesus, to die for our sin. Sin is punishable by eternal death (Romans 6:23), but Jesus, who never sinned, paid our penalty. God's written word, the Bible, says that without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sin. (Hebrews 9:22) That is why Jesus was crucified. His blood flowed in order to be an acceptable punishment for our sin. Jesus, through His death, made it possible for sinners like you and me to be restored to our Creator (2 Corinthians 5:21). Our hostility to God because of our sin, can be turned into having God as our spiritual Father. Jesus is the only reconciler (1 Timothy 2:5). Jesus' death doesn't automatically restore our relationship with God. We must believe that God sent Jesus to die for our sin, and we must confess Jesus as our personal Saviour (Romans 10:9-10). We can only be saved from eternal hell if we acknowledge that we are sinners by nature, acknowledge that we can't save ourselves, and ask Jesus to forgive our sins and restore us to God. (1 John 1:8-9) Jesus promised not to turn you away if you ask Him to forgive your sin and to restore you to God. Living a life according to God's rules will not always be easy, but God promises in the Bible that He will send you His Holy Spirit to strengthen you (John 14:15-16). Count the costs of being a Christian, but don't ignore this warning. The Bible says it is appointed for man once to die, and after that comes the judgement (Hebrews 9:27). Make right with God. Get yourself a Bible and read it all. Then find a church that preaches the Bible, and learn how to worship Jesus Christ.

If you lift heavy weights for long enough you should achieve a thick neck by default. When i see really big guys with small necks, i generally assume they put there size on over a very small period of time. You see it with the young kids that blow up on their first couple cycles and they get tiny head (and neck) syndrome because of it.

The point is that so many exercises already hit neck/traps and the neck should grow at the same rate as the rest of your body. If you have a small neck, it's most likely because you have small everything.

Bone builds up strength during use. It caps out at a certain point due to human and genetic capacity. The bones of somebody who doesn’t plays sports will break a lot faster and easier than someone who does. This is good advice for beginners.

For beginners? The last thing beginners need to be doing is neck exercises lmao Bone density is best increased with load bearing exercise, and you cannot load the neck with a significant amount of weight. You can load the spine as a whole with squats, deadlifts, OHP, etc.
@rodom3033 күн бұрын
@@nw2387 the advice is for beginners in reference to an experience trainer like Mike who sees no value in training his neck because he’s reached his capacity just like most other serious weight lifters. There’s a difference between beginners learning knowledge and beginners practicing that knowledge. So yes for beginners.

I would one hundred percent agree with you here... yet again. Too much neck is a bad thing. My projected OHP(strict not military) max was around 475ish but all the high weight presses of different varieties made my neck super thick. Otherwise I only ever used dynamic tension and occasionally small reps when finishing up overhead tricep exercises.

Lukewarm take Mike. Maybe if you’re a body builder neck training isn’t worth it, but if you play a sport, work any physical labor job, or have neck whiplash issues, neck training is extremely productive. “Neck strength: a protective factor reducing risk for concussion in high school sports” found that for every pound of neck strength, odds of a concussion decreased by 5%.
