Masochism can be very useful. At it's most fundamental level I believe the psychology is: the greater the pain and horror of the challenge, the greater the pride and pleasure I feel from overcoming it. The stronger you can link the pain of the challenge with the pleasure of overcoming it, the more you come to enjoy the pain itself. It can become like a drug. Which is why guys like Platz or Goggins take it to such extremes, they're chasing a high. Convincing your mind to embrace or even enjoy hardship obviously gives you a mountain of advantages in pursuit of a goal. In fact the Marine Corps uses this psychology extensively to help Marines thrive in the worst conditions imaginable.

I used to train at Venice Beach Gold’s and saw a ton of legends: Ferrigno, Arnold…etc. Ferrigno was a solitary guy, not very friendly. Arnold would talk with everyone, and offer tips on form. But one day, I was on the wall of racks doing squats, and someone next to me was squatting with a trainer. The trainer was incredibly intense; yelling at his client. I rack my bar, and take a peak to my left, and it’s none other than Platz, red in the face, willing his client to push himself. The man has not changed a bit. I dared not to make eye contact with the legend, and continued to embarrass myself with my squat routine.

@@shayanahmed7132 Agreed. He realised he could hide it and Arnold exposed him. 1981 Olympia was one of his best appearances and I think it should've been his Olympia to win, Franco shouldn't have even been stage, small legs and severe gyno. Yet he won due to Arnold's influence and corruption. Heartbreaking for Platz once again, yet he never stopped trying, that's why he was known as the people's champion. Think, how the same thing happened to Mentzer in the '80 Olympia, and he completely quit bodybuilding, fell down a dark path with substance abuse and died in his 40's, still bitter about the 1980 Olympia. Tom Platz went through all that pain and grew from it, it made him the legend we know and love.

This is true failure. This aint failure man this shits beyond failure. When people say that roids dont mean a good physique, this is what they mean. It was the juice, + the insane mentality that grew this man his thighs.

What about the preworkout stack ? Wasnt Platz doing the Menzer thing ? Meth or Adderall or Speed to psyche himself up right before the work out

I haven’t done a leg workout in over 6 years. I searched best leg workout for beginners, I watched a Tom Platz camp on legs and I haven’t left the gym in three days. I’m still sitting on the leg curl machine and stumbled upon this gem of a video. Wish I saw this one first..

Just watching Tom train is inspirational. Listening to him speak takes it to the next level. Then watching him train someone else is epic.

Tom Platz was the de facto winner of the 1981 Mr Olympia…Tom Platz is also one of the most brutally honest people I’ve ever known, and followed on Social Media. He’s honest, and he inspires many aspiring Bodybuilders to keep focused ! Tom and his beautiful wife Dr Cha Dikito are wonderful people who give back by sharing their knowledge, life experiences n so much more !🦾👏👏 Great video Sir !👏👏
