Hi Nathan, thanks so much for your review. I have gone through the same process and couldn't agree more with you!

Wow! This is the best comparison I've seen!! Thanks so much for all the details and work you put into this! It helped me a ton! I'm so happy I went with Axis and this confirms it was the right choice between the two!

Printing the -1 Degree shim now. This might also help with the big 1310.

Great review. Glad you got the DLab-phenomenal wing but with a horrid luffing handle and inflation system (and surprising that there’s no included leash). FYI I have it on good authority that the next iteration of the DLab and standard Unit will have an improved luffing handle.
@SilverFoilSurfer2 жыл бұрын
Agree, still, all things considering it's currently one of the best wings on the market, the "v2" dlab will probably take over a year to arrive to AU ;)

Great comparison - thank you! Have you tried Sab W1110 ?

Yeah, I've had 1110, pretty good light wind option, can still turn/carve it reasonably quick.

Great review. Not sure if you also have the 899. From your experience, what is the low-end and peak wind range for you using the 999? At what wind strength would you shift to 899? Thanks.
@SilverFoilSurfer2 жыл бұрын
I think I should have gone 899 and 1099 for my area, 12-15 knots with the 5m would be ok on 899, for low days 1099.

I've always thought that axis is the brand I would switch to from Sabfoil. But here in Canada axis foils are much more expensive. Sabfoil kits cost closer to $2000 cad, whereas axis are harder to find, and an art999 with power carbon mast would end up around $3600 cad not including shipping and duty. With upgrades in the same ratio, and a bigger sabfoil used market. While I don't doubt axis has better pump and glide, and can probably turn tighter with the shorter tail length. The sab 1000 is a windfoil race wing. Would be interesting to see which has a higher top end and top end stability. I feel that the cedrus mast must be holding the speed and efficiency of the 1000 back. Whereas a wing with a low stall speed and pump speed isn't affected as much by the mast drag. Have been looking at the Kraken upgrade since I do notice the top end drag from the Sab 82, which is faster than the cedrus. Kraken gets the mast thickness down to 13.5mm and the base. I do agree the quick release is a solution nobody asked for, but speed and stiffness might be worth it. Reviews like this and all the new stuff shown at the awsi from brands like delta and unifoil have me hesitating on future Sab products. Especially with the necessary kraken fuselage upgrades.

Yeah, it depends on the region, here in AU, axis is pretty popular is easy to source (new or used), sab is not that popular here and costs more. After many sessions, I still feel like art has more stability at 20+ knots, better pump and glide as well as carving/turning, more forgiving when breaching. An interesting read on mast thickness effects on drag www.indefoil.com/foildesign/mast-thickness-drag, I'm yet to try anything thinner than 19mm but in my experience the most limiting factor on speed is water surface conditions, i.e. choppy water. From the engineering point of view, the kraken "disconnect" is the weakest point, it won't properly work if you have a few grains of sand present, for those 0.1% of people who are swapping mast with connected wings on the go, it also won't work as you have to move the plate to the sweet sport for each wing. All other major vendors are trying to make a one piece mast with the mounting plate to make it as stiff as possible.

@@SilverFoilSurfer I've ridded the w800 and w1000 on both the standard 18mm and 13mm race masts and the difference is much more than 2-5%. The 13mm will glide twice as far. Cord and foil section are just as important. There's a reason race foils are all Tuttle, the strongest UD carbon is not meant to curve up into a plate. The designer of your cedrus explained that in his podcast with the progression project. This is not to say that the ART foils won't be equally efficient on very thin masts (assuming they are stiff). Which all reports say the kraken are very stiff for their thickness. I agree the quick release is pointless. But I have broken a couple masts at the base plate, so the connection makes sense. Just wish they had optimized for weight rather than a QR system.

I ordered Axis up from the states. The 1150,Short fuse,460rear, 82cm alu mast is awesome light wind combo. Well mannered even in 20knots though. Very nice ride. Going to order another setup and pass my current setup on to the GF.

Very nice, I have the AXIS HPS 1050 & 880, yet to try an ART, maybe 999 could be worth a try. 1050 is untouchable 😁 Are those WIP googles??
@SilverFoilSurfer Жыл бұрын
Yeah, there are so many new foils on the market since art series was introduced, I'm still stuck with 999 for the time being. Yes, those are WIP googles, can't foil without them, takes a few sessions to get used to them, I have a review on them on my channel, they're definitely not the best, can be improved but currently I can't find anything better.

This is really awesome. Thanks! I am considering between 999 and 1099. so i'm just wondering how much you weigh?
@SilverFoilSurfer2 жыл бұрын
I'm 75kg, 999 is probably 90% usage for my area, 1099 for light wind days.

Yeah, I've had W945, didn't really like it, sold it and got W1110 instead as soon as it came out.

@@SilverFoilSurfer thanks for sharing! 1110 looks awesome for gliding. Maybe the 945 needed more swell power/speed to enjoy?

@@SilverFoilSurfer so how would you compare w1110 to art1099? Thanks!
@SilverFoilSurfer2 жыл бұрын
They are very similar, maybe 1099 will glide a bit better but hard to tell, need to spend more time on it, I'm mostly on 999.

Also, any reason for going ART999 over ART1099?
@SilverFoilSurfer2 жыл бұрын
it's just the matter of wind strength, 1099 is for low days, 999 for like 90%, could have probably used 899 in most cases instead of 999.
