Kristin Neff's book on self compassion is one of the best self-healing books I have found. It's life changing!

I love how you describe being there for yourself 24/7 and accepting that making mistakes is part of the human experience. Thanks for a great video!

You've inspired me to re-tell my story of grief through a different lens. I wish you well and hope that your endeavors continue to impact peoples' lives in a positive way. Your words have certainly changed mine in the best of ways. I am a college student working on their undergraduate thesis. The working title is "Adventures of Self-Compassion: Memoir of a Depressed Undergraduate." Because of your research, I have been able to give my younger self a voice. Thank you for helping me. I am finally able to give my narrative a second chance.

My therapist, Stephanie Eslick, suggested that I watch your TED talks and videos. I trust Stephanie, who is a great admirer of your work, and it's going to be a very difficult road for me to take what you say to heart, but I am going to try. Thank you for making these videos and sharing them with everyone.

Self-compassion entails three basic components: 1) extending kindness and understanding to oneself rather than harsh self-criticism and judgment; 2) seeing one’s experiences as part of the larger human experience rather than as separating and isolating; and 3) holding one’s painful thoughts and feelings in balanced awareness rather than over-identifying with them. (Neff, 2003)

I find the second point very interesting. If you think of the waves of kinds of popular music, you'll find that lyrics from the 2000s-present that they're more introspective when compared to say the 70s and 80s. Even if the intent of the music is to bring insight for people who are struggling in some way, do you think it has a negative affect to the listeners in the long run?

Kristin Neff is widely recognized as one of the world’s leading experts on self-compassion, being the first one to operationally define and measure the construct over a decade ago. In this movie she explains what self-compassion is.

Hey, I was at the bookstore and I wanted something on the subject of self-compassion. Your book was the only one, I hesitated at the cashier but I came back to get it. I said, "this one I need". The book is truly a friend. I was especially thrilled when I discovered you know of Eckhart Tolle, when I saw that quote, I thought, "this is a sign, you wrote this book for me (among many other compassion seekers) :)"

Your crossed wrists over solar plexus technique helped me tremendously. This is a wonderful thing to do in despair. And your documentary film is the best I have ever seen in my life. I read the book first and I cried rivers over each page and in each second of the movie. Your journey is the deepest and most courageous journey of people I have ever seen. You and your husband are contributing very much to making the world a better place. Thank you so much. Do you know about the book Betty by Anneliese Ude Pestel? That is my own story told by Anneliese my child therapist.

Dr. Neff is really talking about therapeutic communication which she wants us to internalize.

Found this stuff today. Been reading the web page for a couple hours now. I'm starting to see a nice link between the concepts of true and false self and self-compassion and self-esteem. Also the link to and meaning of OK and not-OK stances of seeing oneself and others from transnational analysis now becomes even more clear. Now I'm thinking how does self-esteem and self-compassion project outside of us. If I understand the ideas correctly, self-esteem means narcissism and conditional love while self-compassion means more intimate and empathetic honest approach and unconditional love. Compassion is the core and esteem is the shell. Now is my intuition that self-esteem cannot be self-generated correct? Self-esteem being a synonym for self-value that has to be gained and validated from outside, in other terms needing to fish for narcissistic supply? Because I've read somewhere that narcissistic people are "energetically self-insufficient" when it comes to emotions so their need to "feed off of others". Heh, after years of reading stuff this happens. What a smart boy I am :D

Kristen, we admire and value how much you have improved our perspective of ourselves.i was wondering how far up on your prioritized task list are the additional guided self compassion meditations? They are better than story time when I was a child -I sleep better after listening to one...thanks again!

Probably not, unless you write to her or something. She does have a book as listed by readers on this list. And there's a website elizz.com that has some written things according to Dr. Neff AND AND I forget. Mind, you posted four years ago. So. Maybe you've no need.
