Thank you Derek, Me and my boss planned to use this on our client. I negotiated with my client and said their offer was declined by my boss but i was okay with their proposal. Our client talked with our company management and they fired my boss for declining a good proposal and appointed me in his position.

i don't know. once i got a job offer where the boss hiring me started with a ridicoulous offer. he probably wanted some room to negotiate but the first thing i though off is if they offer so low i have no future in that company. so i said no thanks. he off course said he could negotiate i just responded that he started off so low that unfortunatly i wish not to continue since his first offer really said how he values engineers.

I honestly hate that tip about putting the blame on someone else. At some point you have to show that you are important to the company and that you have authority to say "no" on the company's behalf. The only thing that happens when you put the blame on someone else is that the opposing person will ask to speak to your boss... any tips for when that happens?
@onmywrld76192 жыл бұрын
his choice of words was wrong but I’m pretty sure he meant « being on the same boat as the other person » it doesn’t necessarily have to involve pointing fingers at someone else but to assure the person in front of you that you completely agree with them. This assures a feeling of complicity and trust while validating the thoughts and emotions of the person in front of you. It’s quite an easy tip really I feel like everyone does this unconsciously. I used to use this tip a lot back when I was working in fast food.
@Seisoks2 жыл бұрын
In real world, it will work more than you know. People will believe on speaking words. Especially from the person who they trust. Then, even if they know you are lying, they would just waves away. No matter how sad and poor looking the scapegoat person is, people will choose their guy over some sad case. A company or government or any kinds of authority cannot be all knowing or uncorruptable. You just suck your upstair superior dry and with enough and very good sucking, you get to top. Even if not the top, you will be comfortable. I personally cannot do it tho. Guess i suck at sucking people off.
@qua77712 жыл бұрын
I'm with you on that. I realize your comment was made a while back but still valid. I don't want to be intermediary. I don't want the client to see me as an order taker who they can play ping pong with. They'll want to go over your head to speak to who's really in charge.

I love this guy, Wish I had him as one of my college profs. And he looks like he was very good with peer pressure.

Throwing your boss under the bus for failing to strike a deal? That is a bad idea. That means you are telling your client you are weak, and have no decision making power. If I'm your customer I don't understand why I am negotiating with you then. Let me talk to your boss!!! It also tells the client that your company doesn't want their business. This slick little sales guy in front of me does, but his company doesn't. Why don't I find a company that does? The first two strategies are great. The last one is AWEFUL!!!
@madd23036 жыл бұрын
Greg Love you are soo right!

That's exactly what I thought when I heard the third strategy. Lying and not assuming your responsibility while making a deal are a big no-no! Thanks Greg for stating that clearly!

That is what ALL of the spouses say! That means you are trying to be the good cop and make Mom out to be the bad cop. That method can quickly sour your own relationship with Mom aka your partner, so use this tactic sparingly.

I do not understand how you could blame the "no" on someone else if you're negotiating salary.... Who else is there to blame but your boss or yourself? Unless there are labor costs that are strained, the "no" is on you. Be gracious and ask what you can do better so when you come back in a few months that no may be a YES!
@ThePersonalDevelopme2 жыл бұрын

Someone that is in higher rank than you? Like maybe if you're the boss of a sub-company, then blame the people working the bigger companies that your company work in. Or blame it on the rules and regulation, the regiment, the quotas that you have to meet?

Be careful with number 2 though If you’re too overpriced, it could be interpreted as an insult and push them away
