Well then he must be a failure because I think he is quite funny
@milascave22 жыл бұрын
@@erisdiscordia7439 I saw him by acident as an opener to a band, and I was pretty baffled by him. It was new Years Ever 2022, but all his jokes seemed to refer to rock stars of the 1970s. I am old enough to remeber that period, but a lot of it still went over. my head. I kind of started to get where he was coming from when he said "Howwwww did the magician Teller make his partner Pen. Jillian disapear? He flushed the toilet." OK, so it is inslut humor taken to an absurdextreme. But I dislike Jillian, so I like it. Weirdly, he started to grow on me when I watched him on KZbin all the time. His nasal voice, his flat vocal tone, dated material,and poor delivery, his comb over, big glasses, drink always in hand, and suit, he is trghe very oposite of the coolcomedian. You expect him to be doing his show at som low grades casino is a remote Nevada town, for free. But no, he was opening for a by now dated early 1980s punk band with only one of it'original members which was doing a tired, apethetic, abreviated and hard to understand wersion of theire old, much better stuff . It oddly kind of fit. Neal was once a punk singer himself, so I wonder if he noticed the unintended irony ofthe pairing.
@profile20472 жыл бұрын
I’m confused. Isn’t an anti joke exactly that?
@redvelvetunderground11 ай бұрын
because the humor is in neil himself as a character and his failure, ambivalence towards his material and not the material itself, once you understand that about him it's hilarious
@redvelvetunderground11 ай бұрын
@@milascave2 considering neil hamburger is a made up character i would say the performer who created him is very aware of the "irony" of it. neil is meant to be strange and off putting, the joke is in his character rather than the actual jokes he tells, his relationship to it and ambivalence towards it, that's where the humor is. i think the problem is that people keep seeing neil as an actual comedian, like an actual real person vs a character he's playing and it doesn't connect. i first saw neil open for fantomas in phoenix when i was 19 and i also didn't understand him then, i also believed for an embarrassingly long time that neil was a real person and not a character. watching his character in a proper context in other things helped me appreciate him a lot more. i love neil as a character and i love gregg as a performer and a comedian, his humor is subtle and dry but it's so damn funny once you get on the wavelength
