So the crashes don’t mean anything, they’re just a statistic, and you wanna get the fastest time, and the timer resets back to your last checkpoint when you crash, so you’re encouraged to crash as many times as needed to get the fastest time... So basically someone has finally encapsulated the process of making a Tool-Assisted Speedrun into a game. Crashes are just the re-record count, and the final frame count is all that matters. Literally it’s TASing: the video game! Nice!

It really depends on the trail and mountain. You're going to be faster if u travel with all your speed through all checkpoints without crashing than if u keep resetting, because then u start with 0 speed. There are also challenges to do a certain time with less than x crashes and daily rides where your crashes get added to your total time.

Yeah I love cycling the same way cars achieve the miles per gallon they say on the adverts. i.e under perfect conditions that almost never exist in reality and certainly not for any great length of time. If it was perfectly smooth road with a meter of space either side of me free from traffic so I didn't feel anxious about accidentally hitting anything and the road barely went more that 2.5 degrees up or down then I would love cycling. Fortunately exercise bikes exist.

Once went mountain biking with the cadets in Wales, and the entire group stopped at the bottom of this long, straight hill. I didn't realising we were stopping before it was too late, hammered on the back brake, didn't do anything, so pulled the front brake, flipped the bike, managed to fly over the handle bars, land on my feet, and had to start running so that the bike wouldn't smack me in the back of the head. I felt like a ninja. Ironically, my life has only been downhill from there.
