I'm not sure what Bob would have enjoyed more; that he's still teaching people to paint decades after his death, that he's inspiring people all over the world, or how AWESOME your van looks after following his tutorial

What other people see and what the artist sees is not the same painting. Most people see the intended subject. The artist sees every flaw and figures how to improve their technique to benefit their next work.

I'm super glad to see you sanded the panels down first before painting! I see alot of people paint beautiful murals on their cars on KZbin, BUT they paint straight over shiny paint! I am an automotive spray painter myself and knowing that you went to the effort to sand first to give the paint something to adhere to, means I know all your hard work will last alot longer than most other similar projects that I have seen! Super well done! Your van looks awesome!
@sketchyride6021
@sketchyride6021 2 жыл бұрын
You fail to mention the lack of fine line use, the fact that she could have 400 gritted the panel instead of priming and cleaned, and from a lack of sanding the primer to create a mechanically etched surface to adhere to , she essentially created a worse surface to paint than if she just scuffed the black. And the lack of enough clear coat to create a smooth finish that can be cut and buffed. No hate coming from this way, she did an amazing job but from a painters stand point it was painful to watch lol

"he must have been the most chill person ever" Bob was a Master Sergeant in the Air Force and used his painting as a way to disassociate himself from all he yelling and anger he had and it worked tremendously 😁 he also hated his hair. He originally got that permed hairstyle because it was cheap to maintain but then as he gained popularity his hair became part of how people recognized him so he kept it.

What I love the most about these videos is that I automatically connected with my old self of self doubt. "I'm going to fuck this up, what am i doing, i should just stop, this is going to be horrible" but the truth is that even if it is horrible, the part that you need to get through is the scary part. In these situations, you're not worried about the result, you're worried about the process, and then when the result shines through, the reward feels so much better. To anyone watching, take the risks, make the mistakes, because trust me you will gain a whole new level of self appreciation.

Fun Fact: Bob Ross loved animals and would often rescue and rehabilitate injured or sick animals directly on the set of TJOP, so basically when you watch, there is most likely a cute critter just off camera where Bob can care for them. He had a friend named Peapod the Squirrel who made many appearances, as well as birbs, raccoons, and even a baby deer one time. He joked that he wasn't manly or tough enough for actually hunting animals, so he would go on "hunting trips" where he would "shoot animals" with his camera... lol apparently he was so chill like actual Disney princess that wild animals often just approached him for some love and cuddles. He has loads of selfies with wild animals you can find if you dig for them. So yeah, Bob Ross was a pretty incredible dude. The most wild thing about him was that he was actually a Drill Sargent, the guy who screams at recruits and yells "GIMME 50 PUSH UPS MAGGOT!" and he was known as the meanest and most terrifying Sargent. He tells a story where he believed that he was being mean for a good reason to make them strong so they could survive, but after witnessing a grown man cry and have a mental breakdown because of him, he vowed to never yell or be mean again. Painting was his escape from the daily stress of being a Drill Sargent, he was stationed in Alaska where the landscapes were beautiful and inspirational to him, so he focused entirely on that and retired from the military. Bob Ross was truly an interesting and inspirational man.

I'm a non-comercial painter. Dioramist , photographer, and some other less interesting stuff. An old follower of Bob from my 20s in 1980. I have seen hundreds of artists during years using Bob Ross technics and inspiration, but this pretty KZbinr lady is maybe the most intrepid and talented, having the courage of a lion. It,s a lot difficult to try to create this masterpiece in materials Bob never intended to use. Car painting, a BLACK VAN! WOW! Only two types of people are capable to try this. Nuts and Nerds. And what amazes me is that both are going to end with real masterpieces. And Skjera is both (on a good meaning speaking) Love it!

I dunno if it's the way he says things but, man, the dude always gets me laughing. xD And that first rock attempt was so cute. Lastly, when it comes to painting vehicles you definitely want to be inside, if possible, where you can regulate the room temperature and humidity. This allows for an optimum paint cure. But with all that said, you've still done an amazing job!

I loved this whole video. I wanted to see more Clear Coat put on. As a mechanic, I screamed for more clear for protective reasons. I also know how a good clean, thick clear coat can make paint look SOOO deep. I was hoping to see you watch a video on clear coating or so on. I think it would have made it pop so much harder. Great result either way. Maybe in the future, you can "color sand" the clear down smooth, then shoot two more coats on it, then polish it. It'd look AMAZING. I've wanted to clear some of my own Bob Ross inspired paintings in automotive clear and buff them. X-D seems like an interesting project.

@Mace91
@Mace91 3 жыл бұрын
Definitely needs a thicker layer of clear as well as PLENTY of wet sanding and buffing to get it smooth like the rest of the van. Then the clear won't distort the paint with all those bumps and you'll get the depth @VicariousClouds is talking about.
@vicariousclouds2340
@vicariousclouds2340 3 жыл бұрын
@@deezdrama In the end, as long as you did the clear coat correctly, you'd end up seeing the "hand painted look" even better, the clear would create depth as explained before. Specially in the little valleys and high spots of paint. As long as the clear is thick enough, and smooth enough, you'll get nothing more/less than a deep clear that exaggerates the hand painted look.

Yeah, there were some crazy fantasy art murals on the sides of vans and the fuel tanks of motor cycles all the way into the mid-80's in the part of Texas where I grew up. There was even a guy who painted his El Camino up like a zebra, adding a black and white very real looking bristly mane on the roof and a silky rope tail to the latch pull on the tailgate. Made me smile every time I saw it cruising around town. 😄 The Houston area is kind of famous (notorious?) for having a large number of "art cars" on the road thanks to the annual Art Car Parade. That's where you get to see the wildest of the wild. Some people have literally spent decades altering their art cars.

Hey....I don't know if I'm the only person who has ever done this but I have to recommend that when the video is speeded up during the painting part that you knock back playback to .25. There is something very surreal and performance-art like in watching the slower yet, time-jump nature of the painting with the music fully distorted. Very 1980s in sound but watching her execute the painting is enthralling. It's like a performance inside of a performance. Fascinating!!! Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention that the work on this van is GORGEOUS!!! A really wonderful piece of work.
