@EvenTheDogAgrees2 ай бұрын
And the sad thing is, despite being the best case for storing the charger, it absolutely sucks for storing the charger. 😂 I mean, come on, couldn't they have made that case just a little thicker so it wouldn't rest on the charger? Or made the charger a little thinner, so it wouldn't stick out of the back? You can't lay it down flat, unless you lay it upside-down.

The ONLY issue I have with it is when I apply a little force to the top right corner of the deck it sounds crunchy, when I press down on the right stick it kinda sounds like a squeak along with the face buttons but it’s only on the left side. Although I could care less it can get annoying during space flights in no mans sky. Other than that, the deck is awesome.

Cryoutils is not working as expected on 3.6. Valve switched to zram and disables the swapfile. The utility needs some re-work now as Valve now trashes the swappiness and swapfile on 3.6 and restarts zram regardless of setting a swapfile and swappiness on subsequent reboots.

@Brandon-dq3vx3 ай бұрын
Cryo Utlities is a bunch of scripts that rearrange memory and swap files to be more efficient. It also moves your shaders to be in the same disk as where your games are installed if you happen to have some on your SSD and some on an SD card. Helps you see a reasonable performance boost in a lot of games. There are a few instances where it actually makes performance a bit worse, like RDR2, but it has for the most part made my experience better.
@dewinter14113 ай бұрын
Cryo Utilities and other software that requires a Sudo password and the running of scripts to install, has always led me to issues later on. I reset and reimaged the deck and haven’t reinstalled those things and haven’t had any issues. Cryo is useful but the way it moves stuff around and changes things led to some strange file errors and other issues.

The versatility of storage in the steamdeck does not get talked about much. There is literally no reason to get a 1 tb version by paying a hundred more when you can have for slightly more 2 x 1 TB micro SD cards with decent write speeds . Some of the cheaper U2/A3 cards that I have used with the OLED have had phenomenal write speeds . This coupled with the faster wifi makes it so you can have your entire steam catalogue in microsd cards in a card wallet. Just swap em out to change games

I've had games report 6gb's of ram. How does that happen?
@dewinter14113 ай бұрын
VRAM? That’s because it uses what it needs being an APU. So basically that leaves roughly 10gb for the CPU.
@potatorigs21553 ай бұрын
Only change the UMA size if the game doesn't detect all the RAM available on your system it's a waste of time .Usually old games are the culprit. hUMA does the job for you. Coherent Memory: Ensures that CPU and CPU caches both see an up-to-date view of the data Pageable Memory that allows the GPU to seamless access virtual memory addresses that are not (yet) present in physical memory Entire Memory Space: Both CPU and GPU can access and allocate any location in the system’s virtual memory space. AMD demonstrates the technologies functionality with the following examples, without hUMA, the CPU must first explicitly copy data to GPU memory, the GPU completes the computation and then the CPU must explicitly copies the result back to CPU memory in order for it to be read. With hUMA the CPU can simply pass a pointer to the GPU, which completes the computation and produces a result that the CPU can directly read without any copying required.
@BoomMC_Inc3 ай бұрын
What do you set your vram at?
@antonkirilenko31163 ай бұрын
@drew1921 tbf, for most modern games this number is mostly irrelevant, because the games are now addressing system RAM when they run out of VRAM and since the system RAM and VRAM on a Steam Deck are using the exact same chips it doesn't cause any performance drops. It's mostly for the older titles that may give you an error if they don't detect enough VRAM.

Steam Input also offers a small feature that a lot of people probably missed and I don't blame them. It's Anti-Deadzone Buffer. The issue it solves is that a lot of old games like the ones for PS2 have artificial deadzone around 20% of the whole stick movement. That is especially noticeable in racing games, but with anti-deadzone buffer you can basically remove that deadzone entirely. Absolute game changer for me! Try it for yourself and you will be amazed.

Too bad they no longer sell the Steam Controller. Although it isn't perfect; it's great as a keyboard/mouse replacement using Steam Input, but it kinda sucks as a regular controller as it is quite awkward (especially with smaller hands) to use the A/B/X/Y buttons on it. They're just too far left/down from the natural resting place of your thumb, since that's where they put the large circular touchpad.

the VRAM/UMA Frame Buffer setting is the "Minimum" allocated on boot, linux and the steam deck can dynamically allocate more if it needs it and more ram is available, you dont need to mess with that unless you have a specific game where the ram is being eaten by the cpu/game leaving too little for your gfx allocation. Typically only windoze users need to worry about that setting.

I basically solved it by Factory resetting and reimaging SteamOS and keeping it pretty much stock. Sure I miss those add ons, but the stability is worth it. I found anything that requires the Sudo password to install led me to issues down the road. I guess because it writes and rewrites to places it normally can’t without the password. Worked for me.
