Thanks. These early issues I didn't have as a kid. I always looked at my friend Jason's. But they still take me back. I can't wait until I get to the issues I actually had. I'm glad I could bring back those memories. Thanks for watching.

Awesome! There really is something unique about looking through these magazines. Glad I could take you back.

I really love that series, I wasn't able to fully experience NES era myself (I'm from Poland, born in 90 - no Nintendo related magazines, working NES was also rarity) but listening to your commentary, background music and looking at those screenshots of games I used to play (rarely, but I did) makes me nostalgic - I can easily understand why NintendoPower was so important to you. Video editing is also really well done. Keep up the good work.

I'm glad I could bring out those childhood memories. Thanks for the compliment and thanks for watching!
@NESComplex12 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Its such a compliment that the episode seemed to go by quickly, I kinda felt like it was slow and that I should've cut out a few parts. It's hard to know what to cut sometimes, but less is more... as they say.
@jeremyjamesdewitt9 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for doing this. I remember looking through all of these as a kid, and then I remember that the entire collection that I had was destroyed in a flood. Looking at all of these again, with all the great Nintendo music behind it, hits me right in the nostalgia button. Thanks, man!
@NESComplex12 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I certainly try to get better. I don't want to just stay the same. I already have a mental list of what I can improve in the future. Thank you so much for watching. I'm glad you enjoy them.
@NESComplex12 жыл бұрын
Exactly. The nostalgia makes it fun to make these episodes, too. I'm glad it's sending you back in time.

Thanks. I know people have requested this show quite a bit, but the views seem to roll in a bit slower than some of my other videos, so I'm kinda confused about people's response to them. I like doing them though, so that's all that matters... and I'm gonna keep doing them. It'll be cool to zoom through the Game Boy, SNES, and N64 eras. It really gets me motivated to crank these episodes out.
@NESComplex12 жыл бұрын
That's the goal. Bringing back some awesome childhood memories. Thanks for watching.

I've had an incredibly rough couple days. Your Scott Bakula joke marks the first time I've smiled in 24 hours. Thank you.
@NESComplex12 жыл бұрын
I doubt that will happen, but I"m going to work my way through them as much as I can. After I finish some of the basic one-off videos like collection retrospectives and Top 20 lists, then I'm gonna try to pingpong between "Is It Fun?" and NPTM. At that point I'll be able to get through the issues much quicker. I'm also starting to find a better rhythm for making them. We'll see. I almost did a final issue episode (and still might).
@NESComplex12 жыл бұрын
I've considered doing a collection video / retrospective of Nintendo Power. I put them in magazine sized bags with backer boards (like people do with comics). and I store them in 3 banker's boxes. I need a 4th. Eventually I'm going to put dividers with issue numbers for each year of the magazine so I can find them easier.
@NESComplex12 жыл бұрын
Awesome memory, dude. I figure every issue of NPTM is bound to have something nostalgic to everyone.

The only real thing I can reference from that episode, is that the first arcade I ever visited had a play-choice ten and it was the only arcade machine I felt comfortable playing simply because it had games I was familiar with since I owned an nes at home. The games I use to play all the time were the goonies and super mario bros.

Loved it!!! I love every episode! It takes me back to my childhood. Begging your parents to call the Nintendo hotline for a tip. Actually dialing the number from the phone at a friend’s house 😆. Dude, they got us to call Santa on the phone when we were kids too!! Can you imagine how many parents probably called to dispute their phone bill? 😂 Getting a new issue of Nintendo Power in the mail is such a fond memory. The days of the NES brought me so much enjoyment and feeling of achievement but also mixed with so much frustration! I remember getting to Dracula in Castlevania 1 and pausing my game. I already had another NES cartridge wedged on top of Castlevania to keep it in place but all it took was the slightest tap of my friend’s foot when it bumped into the NES console and made it reset 😳🤯 Thanks so much NESCOMPLEX for taking your time to share your memories that I so genuinely relate to!

I love Zelda II as well, I remember being a little disappointed it was completely different then the original but it grew on me the more I played it and I still pop it in from time to time today. Great golden era of gaming and I'm glad I got to grow up in it! I think the graphics are obviously better in today's game but they just don't have the same appeal to me or level of fun. Kinda sad!

Yeah, the resemblance is absolutely uncanny! As a total aside, Zelda 2 is actually my favorite Zelda game! I love the RPG elements, and nothing I did in video games as a child was as difficult yet satisfying as when I finally got that hammer from Death Mountain for the first time. Few games since then have ever managed to match the intensity of that challenge. Glad to hear you also liked the game -- but then, at the time, everybody did! It's only recently that people have started decrying it.

I have a list of videos I'm working through, but eventually I want to get to a point where I'm doing Is It Fun and Nintendo Power Time Machine excessively. These are really fun to write and record, but editing is very time consuming. I would love to be able to release them once a month.

This was extra time machine-y for me, I haven't even seen that issue since 1989. I was among the kids that were disappointed by the game, so my mother sold it to a coworker and (to my surprise) generously included this issue in the package. Looking forward to the Ninja Gaiden episode, somehow that issue survived the years so I'll be able to read along on that one. Thanks!

Great video Chris, although we didn't have Nintendo power from what I can remember here in England I have a lot of the games mentioned now. Marble madness is such a great game I always find myself playing it when I have a spare 20 minutes ! The master system was more successful over here and then came the megadrive so a popular magazine was sonic the comic which kept you upto date with all the latest sega releases. Take care pal :-)
