Honest question here: Is there more behind these surprisingly, exceedingly low prices for these cars? Like what's the caveat? It just seems to good to be true, is the government pushing these? I know here in Europe our manufacturers are more than happy to rip us off and the price to value is horrendous. Got to drive and am also currently eying either a BYD Seal or NIO ET5 and they just offer so much more for the price even when counting in the import. And the incredibly long warranty which is unheard of from the likes of VW, Mercedes, Tesla etc
@benrgrogan5 ай бұрын
Most cars are cheap in China (even petrol or western brand cars). Factors that also add to the low cost include low wages, efficient modern factories, economies of scale (both in terms of production numbers and platform sharing) lots of competition forcing a price war, historic carbon credit scheme that helped brands scale up their EV range profitably. You have to also remember most Chinese brands are also around 2-3 years ahead on the development curve compared to western brands which helps with most of the factors discussed above.
@ristekostadinov28202 ай бұрын
@@benrgrogan i mean is not like wages in Czech Republic (i'm mentioning them because lot of cars in Europe are produced there) are that high, there are provinces in China that have wages that are closer to Estonia and Portugal. American car makers can't make competitive cars with mexican wages who are on par with Balkan wages. Korean automakers are also able to produce cars that are in the mid 20k and up (the Chevrolet Trex/Buick Envista are below 25k imported from both China and Korea). I would argue the biggest reason why EVs are affordable is the localized supply chains (they process graphite,lithium, make battery locally and they use mostly LFP not the expensive Li-ion), and steel/aluminium is bought from state owned enterprises who don't operate on high profit margin making sure China have competitive industry, chinese car makers in their domestic market don't have high profit margin they will focus on profit margin in foreign markets + price wars.

Germany doesn't subsidize their cars the same way the Chinese government does. Without these subsidies, Germany, American, Japanese and Korean vehicles all stack up much, much better than the Chinese. These cars aren't actually cheaper. I like Wheelsboy content, but I don't like that you're just promoting these trojan horse EVs. The Chinese government ("Chinese Communist Party") heavily subsidizes EVs to the tune of up to $50,000 a copy. They are pulling an Amazon in that they are going to make every other car maker go under and then jack up their prices when there is no competition. It's patently obvious. These cars would be total crap if they weren't subsidized. The fact that so many of them are still crap with such heavy subsidization is telling.
