One Piece reaching untold new heights of popularity as it enters its twilight years is absolutely amazing. I watched a couple reviews from people who didn't know anything about the series before and they still got the same themes out of it as I did reading it. IMO the biggest indicator of the live-action series' success.

The Zoro getting lost joke was so subtly good. We saw where the well was. You could literally see the mansion from the well. Like it was right in the front yard but he still got lost.

"Stories can have different points" really does sum up the liveaction of OP in a nutshell, holy shit. Honestly, I think that's how almost every fan is taking this show: it's very different from the original but in a new and interesting way that only makes you think more. It's kind of like the different versions of HxH from manga to 1999 to the 2011 version: each does something different and tells a different story and the characters are all supposed to be the same yet are all very different incarnations. That and kind of all the different superhero movies where each take on the characters gives new facets to think about and reflect on. I think this is the best way to do a liveaction anime I've seen yet. Keeping the heart of the characters and the chemistry, but playing out a what if scenario if certain things were changed - not going for a random mishmash of certain moments from the original because "they are iconic scenes you can't get rid of" like in something like FMA live action or changing everything entirely like GitS or Death Note to make it "edgy" or "cool"

I noticed the Buggy thing too. Interesting how he's one of the earliest big players in the series and we didn't get that facet of his characters until recently, but the Netflix version already arrived there.

The Zoro gag started pretty early in the manga as well (ch 8), but Oda definitely started to make it more obvious and ridiculous later.

Yeah, I started rewatching anime with my wife and there were a moment or two that you can interpret this way. They just weren't plot-defining, but they were there.

As someone who only plans on reading one piece after its finished, the netflix show for me was like a perfect first impression. I have a feeling a lot of obnoxious one piece fans will cry foul for the live action being my first experience with the series, but that's not gonna take away from how much I enjoyed it. I just hope this will finally put to bed all the people crying about how live action anime is impossible. I personally hold the opinion that animation makes everything better, but I also believe art has no limits, so its always really annoyed me how people talk about how adapting anime and manga to live action is impossible. Especially when those same people don't bat an eye at the numerous comic book, fantasy, and sci fi novel adaptations that exist. Like, lord of the rings live action makes sense but Slayers is an impossibility? Does that make sense to you because it doesn't to me.

I've always supported the idea of anime live actions and especially OPLA, however this adaptations was one of the worst and most disrespectful things humanity has ever done. Without question it's a crime against humanity. Everything from the acting to the dialogue was horrific.

The most wonderful part of One Piece is that it is something that becomes part of your life for years and years. If you read it only at the end, it will entertain you for a couple of months and that's it, but it won't be the friend who has been with you through thick and thin, like for example with me for the last 15 years. In the future people will be able to read it from beginning to end but they will not have the experience of growing with it like we do.

it mostly OP fans complaining about how it not as good as the manga. While I do agree i think for new comers this is still a great way to enter the series that not 1000+ chapters/episode long and fulfills oda dream of OP branching out to a wider audience.

Live action is designed to be a first experience IMO, so it's okay to start there. I'm not sure about waiting for manga to be finished tho, but you do you.

I felt the same way about Zoro's character at first, but I warmed up to change. Zoro becomes more serious and reseved as a story progress in manga, but in LA they go opposite way. LA Zoro opened up and lighten up more as LA story progress and he gets to know everyone better. I kinda like it.

Zoro having a bad sense of direction while not as prevalent was always a part of zoro. He became a bounty hunter because he got lost while out at sea looking for mihawk and couldn't find his way back home.

I was really happy with the series and agree with your point of them capturing the spirit of the material even if they change it to better suit the medium My one problem is Garp. His character in the series is jut completely different. I dont even have that much of a problem with him chasing after luffy and "testing" him, my problem is that his ideals and personality are completely opposite. Garp is a jolly guy who holds incredible reverence for the future generations and people's dreams (especially after chapter 1090), not a stern holder of the old guard. Other characters feel slifted in interesting ways, but this is just a complete inversion, and if they really are in for the long haul like they seem, it undermines some important choices that are revealed in the future, especially with ace
@BomberTM
@BomberTM Жыл бұрын
The point of Garp this season was to develop him up into the character we know and love He ends the season fully convinced in Luffy's ability, as well as starting wholeheartedly to believe in and train the next generation. They didn't do anything to undermine him. He's going to go thru the exact same stuff, being proud of Luffy on the news as well as being upset that his grandson Ace is going to be executed like Roger. Even Luffy's punch on Garp is set up by having Garp avoid every single blow in his fight against Luffy with ease. This stuff is gonna hit if it gets reached, maybe even moreso with what we got this season.

I am acutally more curious how they will adapt later arcs. East Blue is fairly grounded (for OP standards) so I am curious how something like Thriller Bark will be adapted. Also, I have no idea what kind of actors they will use to play Chopper, Brooks and post time skip Frankie or if they will just go for CGI...

One thing is that in the manga/anime, the crew got dumber the more time they spent with Luffy.... Zoro was a bit different in that he got more serious and stuff compared to earlier on, unlike the rest of his allies.... but instead, his sense of directions got worse...

Tbh Usopp's character ark is Water Seven, before he is just a resourceful guy who hangs around with a crew.
@StanNotSoSaint
@StanNotSoSaint Жыл бұрын
@@Grigorii-j7z he is a liar and a coward. In manga he had to overcome his cowardice at least twice in East Blue. LA chose to not put it there. And I have zero idea in hell why scorecard had a jolly roger with a long nose and brown bandana when both of those things literally do not exist there. Furthermore Usopp draws his jolly roger with brown bandana and short nose thus creating two contradicting images, both of which don't even look like him. All I'm getting from that is that creators don't care about him. Oh and also right after that they made it a point to let us know that he knows less than Nami about ship cannons when manga specifically used that episode to show that he's good at it. Undermining character skills for lulz is always a winning move, right? Oh, and speaking about being crafty: in anime he had grappling hook in his own ark, and some caltrops, and a whole bag of tricks. Meanwhile in LA they changed it so flammable liquid had to be brought by Chew _himself_ because LA Usopp didn't have foresight to bring it with him. And his dream of becoming a brave warrior has zero sense because he wasn't shown to be cowardly. We know it's a huge deal for manga Usopp, but for LA Usopp it's kinda an out of a left field notion
