Finally 8xx train, which looks different to other trains form family. BIG PLUS for front "Station indicator" above windscreen. Same strory was Voyager vs. Meridian (MML version was updated and more spacious)

The nose is actually bronze, but I think it looks much nicer with EMR's purple compared to the standard yellow nose colour!

I must say that it's a very pleasant colour scheme on the exterior. I do hope that it's fitted with an efficient A/C system for the hotter summers.

They have done some runs to/from London to Sheffield/derby over the past few months. I suspect they would continue to do this until they are fully in service.

Not 100% sure but I know that they are 2m shorter so they can accommodate the platforms at london, and the front part of the train is built differently. Also they don't have buffet bars and first class is only 1 carriage. Not sure about any other details that makes them different.

These are 5 car so if they couple two together they can fit a 10 car in the platform - that’s also why they have 23 metre long carriages instead of 26 metres

@@liamgunn4722 The trains are 5+5 coach sets so they can split along their journey, as the whole train does not go to the same destination, and both destinations have less demand than a full 10-car set, hence the 5+5 coach units that split. This is a very common practice on the railways.

@@liamgunn4722They can't make it 10/12 car units as they don't have the space to accommodate the units at the depot. And the depots they do use (Derby and Cricklewood) can't be extended as there's no space available. Not to mention 12 car units would not be able to fit on the platforms at London.

Very much agree. Travelled frequently from Manchester to Carlisle with Trans Pennine. Used to be 8 coach trains,now 5 coach trains similar to these being discussed. Every train now completely overcrowded.

Currently most of trains to St.Pancras toaday is 5 cars. But these 810 units can be doubled to 10 cars set in Peak.

@@robtyman4281 Currently after HST sets withdrawn, no more 8 car trains left in EMR fleet. 7 cars 221 is longest as single unit (with 2½ cars for 1st class) more popular is 5 car set (with 1½ car for 1st class). And some 4 car sets (with 1¼ car for 1st class, usually they run together with 5 car unit).

That's not Hitachi's fault. That's down to the customer's spec, in the case of the GW 80X stock the DfT. Just like the class 700s. A capable piece of rolling stock, let down by poorly specified interior layout and choice of seats.

@@jefffranklin4894 It is all down to the operator. They specify the interior. There is a minimum, standard for seat comfort and every company has asked for it. Not one has gone for a higher specification, because that costs more. They only care about profits,not the bums on the seats. Passengers in this country are treated like cattle.
