Yes, it would. To get a driver's license in this state, you must present a birth certificate or another document that required a birth certificate to acquire.

Sure but they don't have signed, official copies of the students birth certificates, which this law would require students to have if they wanted to vote. Either an official copy of the certificate or a passport, which the majority of people in this country do not have.

I support Marc Elias and his organization’s position on my home state’s shameful exempting students from voting! If their parents are citizens of this country and the student was born in this country THE STUDENT IS AN AMERICAN WHO HAS THE RIGHT TO VOTE WHERE EVER THEY ARE LIVING IN THIS COUNTRY, ESPECIALLY if they are attending college!!! I have been an Independent all my voting life. Due to the shameful efforts to manipulate voting and support of DT, the elimination of women’s freedom to determine their own healthcare, this year I have chosen to become a member of the Democratic Party. Students should take their birth certificate with them to school. Use it to register, then mail it home.

My Florida Real ID drivers license required the exact same documents. So it should be accepted as proof of citizenship.

Biden, as a last move, should issue Government Citizenship ID! They should be able to do this, as records of birth can be cross referenced with SSN's and I'm sure there are other things, too. If the government will require proof of citizenship, then the government should provide that simple ID.

It is not nearly as simple as you think. There is no national database of births. And every place that issues birth certificates does it differently. Back when I had to get a copy of my birth certificate, I literally waited for them to bring a book, labeled with a date range, out from the back room and flip through the pages to find my certificate. Even though some places have gone through and digitized birth certificates, you can't assume that coverage is complete.

In South Africa, we must show our ID card/book to prove citizenship. And because we have poverty issues here, your first ID card is issued free of charge. As a non-American, I don't see how Americans can't figure out a solution to your voter security issues!

Sununu is not nor ever has been moderate. He is also a dynasty politician, His father was previously governor of that state in the 1980s (and went on to become White House Chief of staff under Bush 2). His brother was the state representative in congress, and later a senator. It can be assumed this is part of his bid for the Republican party to back himself for Federal office.

In the 80s & 90s Florida issued a full size birth certificate and a small ID size birth certificate card. I've had that in my wallet for decades and the FL seal pressed into it is still visible. But even I get strange looks when I've shown that to people. Just goes to show you how different & difficult it is to compare "proof" of something when every state does their own thing for what is essentially a Federal status ... Like Hawaii's proof of live birth 😂

FYI...Many people-regardless of age- do not carry around nor have on-hand, their birth certificate. I don't see how age has anything to do with whether you have your BC handy or not. In my opinion, parents typically hold the birth certificates of single, college-age students and same age non-students. Once a young adult is through with college, living on their own, married, or any event that renders them independent, the parent has given them their BCs. The above is a typical scenario. Basically, no matter your age, it is just as bothersome and extra to get a certified copy of your BC. It can take up to 5 weeks so be proactive and make sure you have one in time to register to vote. The republicans are counting on us being lazy or being procrastinators. It takes time and money to get a certified copy of one's BC. However, it can be done, people! Let's show maga, we will not be deterred!

I think Marc missed a third proof. Naturalized citizens should have proof as well, although most of them would have a reason to have a US passport. That said, proof of naturalization as a child can be difficult if the parents weren't on the ball when they obtained their citizenship. I'm Canadian, and I know two people who discovered that they weren't registered as citizens when they tried to obtain a Canadian passport. It cost them a great deal of time and angst to get it corrected.
