Me and a girl from the vid shoot drove from nyc to Wilmington nc on a fri chilled saw dmb at a field on the airport property. Basically in the parking lot. Big head todd and the monsters played also. I was a teen playing guitar and my uncle told me, 'If you want to impress me, learn some Dave and come back and we will talk!" He then put on satellite and warehouse and air conducted along and air drummed while making comments throughout about what I'm hearing. I bought Under The Table and Dreaming and learned every song and was hooked! This was before youtube and you couldn't get things at the click of a button. My town didn't have a good record store at the time so some time later I was staying at a friend's house and I was going through his cds and saw Crash which he gave to me telling me that he doesnt know how he came about the cd. I put it on and by the time the first chorus of so much to say was through I knew that I had tapped into one of those watershed type things that I know now come only a few times. My whole family gets together and bond over DMB. Once, several members of the family had a falling out and things were touchy. DMB was playing in Atlanta so my mom and I along with 3 or 4 other friends and family drove to the concert together and while at the gate waiting to enter the amphitheater I spotted my uncle and other members of the family and instantly the fighting seemed ridiculous and we all made up without having to even say a word. I can't explain the feeling of being on the lawn that evening as the sun lowered unto red and all the faces silhouetted in the lights....you all know what I mean I'm sure

Carter Beauford is a fricking beast. Check out some of the stuff he did with Victor Wooten and I believe he also did some stuff with Bela Fleck as well. Him and that bass player are locked in like crazy, talk about "being in the pocket"

The initial patterning of the song came from a hand-stretching exercise Dave used to do. It’s sucks a lot - my hands hurt just thinking about it😂

@@poolhall9632 ya Dave has Zappa like hand stretching ability, great independence as well. Carter is infected as well. Leads with his left constantly. Hence the left side ride.

Saw DMB open for the Dead in Las Vegas about 2 months before this show. They managed to play sets three days in a row that had a bit of repetition but included something new each time. I thought it was a good omen for them as a band that they could handle a big crowd 3 days in a row and stay fresh. Things seemed to work out for them...

Under the Table and Dreaming was just getting big at the time of this airing. I saw them at Farm Aid a few months after this in my hometown of Louisville, KY. Just look at them, it's all about the music. They're hungry, fit, humble and playing for a crowd just to sit, listen and appreciate it, in Deustchland.

19:03 This is my favorite DMB moment. I have gone through obsessions over Carter who inspired me to play drums and Dave later on songwriting. But this sax solo is so damn good. It is Leroi’s soul coming out with stark clarity. I had this video when it was first available in the mid 90’s. This always struck me as pure genius. He even gets a little sassy in his attitude as he plays it. I always fast forward through every live show to hear how the BOWA solo compares to this one. Red Rocks is good but there is something really special on this one. And Watchtower... fire. Notice again at the end how Leroi tells Dave “go ahead... go ahead.” This Leroi’s finest hour. The quality here is unreal. Thank you for making dreams come true.

He had a strange habit of hitting some of his strings extremely hard and breaking them - if you notice in his later performances quite often a stage hand would have to run out and give him a guitar that was tuned exactly to the one he took away

Born in 1979, I grew up in the 90's. I had a massive crush on Alyssa Milano. I had her pictures all over my bedroom walls, I read everything I could get my hands on about her. In the early days of the internet (lol), around 1995/1996 I was reading a biography type thing on her and she said her favorite band was DMB. That's the first time I thought, oh i'll check them out. Thanks Alyssa! One of the best bands ever and I finally got to see them in concert a few years ago. I saw them and Foo Fighters in the same week :) Awesomeness!

And my kid said " Carter from daves band !"... his teacher laughed and said " well, we have some serious work to do !".... 4 years later he won his first talent showcase playing tripping billies while proud mom cried from the crowd ❤
