Nope. Conflict of Interest Disclosures: Dr Lowe reported personal fees from Keyto outside the submitted work. Dr Vittinghoff reported personal fees from UCSF during the conduct of the study. Dr Heymsfield reported personal fees from Medifast Medical Advisory Board and personal fees from Tanita Medical Advisory Board outside the submitted work. Dr Weiss reported grants from NIH, grants from James Peter Read Foundation, nonfinancial support from Mocacare Inc, and nonfinancial support from IHealth labs during the conduct of the study; he also is a cofounder and equity stake holder of Keyto, Inc; and owns stock and was formerly on the board of Virta, Inc. No other disclosures were reported.

@@Minnasification That looks like a lot of potential points of conflict! Keyto is a company with a Mediterranean style keto diet product, for instance, and they may have interest in keeping people eating every day, within ketogenic parameters. Plus the nature of the study is pretty useless, you must admit. Fasting for weight loss is advisable for over weight folk- not the participants in the study. Yet the headline is that fasting may not be optimal, when no conclusion was ever reached. So when you said "nope" what you you meant was "nope, not a major food company". Just smaller ones...

Actually it wasn’t. When you fast it is your glycogen storages that are emptied aka water weight. IF promotes binge eating disorders. It is a FAD diet. Eventually your will power will give out and you will binge eat. In the real world on the real solar system on this real planet, the law of thermodynamics holds true. Calories in calories out.

@@breddf347 I mean it may be a fad diet for some, but it is my natural eating pattern. I've never enjoyed breakfast, but I ate it because it was the "healthiest meal of the day." I've never really been one to snack after dinner unless I was with other people. My body naturally likes to eat between about noon and six every day. I've only started this week, but it isn't even a challenge. I'm also counting calories though because I know that I can easily pack away quite a bit of calories in those 6 hours if I'm not careful lol. It's good for your body and digestive system to take a rest and not be constantly working all day long. I personally would rather sit down and have 2 decently sized meals a day than try to spread my calories out and have 3 meals and a snack with the same calories. For me, that's a recipe for overeating. Now I can sit down and have a wrap and a piece of fruit for lunch. If I'm hungry, I'll eat a small snack and have some tea with no sugar in the afternoon and then I eat a fairly "normal" dinner. I've already lost a couple of pounds. And maybe calorie counting alone would produce the same results, but in the past I was hungry all day with calorie counting. With IF, I actually feel comfortably full and satisfied because I'm able to eat decent sized meals. We'll see where this goes, but I personally really enjoy this way of eating. It feels completely natural for me.

I did strength training because I thought I’d I’m going to be fat at least I can be strong. A year later I was still overweight. Then I tried intermittent fasting and after a decade of trying to lose weight I was finally able to. I’m only one person but I’m convinced that for me cutting calories just doesn’t work. And if it’s true for me it’s probably true for others. Also I have a six hour feeding window. I tried omad and lost a lot of weight but it wasn’t sustainable. Plus I found that I can put on muscle better with more protein that I can get eating two good meals a day. Very happy with intermittent fasting. I have no plans to ever giving it up.

@ndt270
@ndt270 2 жыл бұрын
@@davidsink3887 Hi David. N is the scientific abbreviation that stands for the study population for a research study. In the case of many research controlled trials, there may be thousands of participants in the study, and for example, if there were 10,000 people in the study, N would equal 10,000. For those of us who have chosen to forge new trails into things like lchf or carnivore, we are few in total numbers and we have to be very dialed into our personal responses to things like changing how much fat we consume, how much protein we have added or reduced, whether we have eliminated vege tables, supplements we may be taking, and many other variables. We are individuals and don't all respond to a simple formula. I may respond positively to high protein and less fat, but someone may be opposite. I think this beautifully and simply indicates that we all have to take personal responsibility for finding our optimal health which, although has much common ground, varies to a degree for all of us. As to the second part of your question, I have been very interested in health and nutrition from a very young age and started researching the carnivore diet and adopted it a few years ago. Dr. Shawn Baker and Dr. Paul Saladino recently authored very good books and I decided to experiment with their propositions, and the results for me have been better than I expected. We all walk out own paths in life, and David, I think the most interesting thing about our lives, is that we have immense influence in our health and happiness if we will just accept our responsibility and capacity to accept it. Live long and prosper!

I think a lot of studies are DESIGNED to fail, like the first one you mentioned. Something that doesn't get mentioned enough about time restricted feeding, is the fact that it gives your insulin levels time to come down. You simply can't lose weight when your insulin is high, and typical eating patterns, especially with the high carb feedings, keep insulin high and create pathology in the human body apart from that caused by high blood sugar. (recommend Ben Bikman and Jason Fung).

IF has definitely worked for me. Combined with low carb eating it has allowed me to reduce my insulin resistance and reduce my diabetic drugs. Doctors try to promote that fasting is not good. Then they can prescribe meds to offset your bad eating lifestyle, which increases their income from the kickbacks they receive from big pharma! The ADF results that they experienced with only 150% of TDEE will not have that result. However, I do agree that it can be difficult to control all the variables. If I fast for 47 hours, evening to evening, and then eat for an hour, I can pretty much control my intake. If I fast 47 hours, morning to morning, then I have a problem going the rest of the re-feed day without overeating. In addition, I only fast if I have been in ketosis for a while. There is no way I could have done ADF coming from my prior high carb diet.

Interesting. For me, I guess I over simplify my strategy. I listen to my body. I eat when I am hungry (typically twice a day), and I eat until I am no longer hungry. It's what I eat that has been the difference. I am firmly against calorie restriction. I used to be in the 240's. I have now maintained weight in the 180's while eating as much as I want (when I am actually hungry), and doing so in my late 40's. I think we tend to overcomplicate weight loss and bettering our health. Went from obese to maintaining my HS weight, reduced A1C from 10.5 to 5.3, and a laundry list of of other positive health changes. Just my 2 cents from my own experience. I also believe everyone needs to do what is best for them.

By the end of July I weighted 200 pounds, blood sugar was normal, and so was my blood pressure. Lean body mass does not exclusively refer to muscle tissue that produces the strength you need to be mobile and functional. It could also refer to supporting structures, like extra connective tissue, extra organ size, extra bone mass, extra skin, which were all needed to support a larger body when it had extra adipose tissue, and extra leg muscle to support a previously heavier weight, which are now superfluous now that the fat mass is gone. So loss of lean body mass, in the course of a fast, does not necessarily entail a loss of strength RELATIVE to ones newer lower body weight

I lost 120lbs eating Keto and OMAD. I've been doing it for about 10 months now. I eat a little more on the weekends usually having a small snack at some point during the day and then eat my normal meal in the evening. I have never counted calories since I started. I only count carbs. I went from 300lbs to 180. My A1C went from 6.5 to 5.0. My triglycerides went from over 600 to 85. Total Cholesterol from 241 to 158. At 58, I have more energy than I've had in decades. I will never eat any other way ever again. I'm not saying I won't eat the occasional pizza or dessert, but they will be the exception and not the rule. Eat food like it's medicine or you'll end up eating medicine like it's food.
