So predictable that his followers place trees in their house in anticipation. We absolutely know through many writings of his history and existence. Nobody doubts that saint nicholas actual existed. @mrcombustiblelemon29024 жыл бұрын
Here, I'll refute it for you: The story was meant for the glorification of JESUS. For that purpose, any of his disciples may be described unflatteringly, if it makes the story more believable. The points he makes about the tomb are ridiculously foolish, since Aramithea isn't mentioned in any single document except the Bible, including contemporary secular and Jewish documents. Kind of strange for a town housing a member of the Jewish leadership, unless he was fictional of course (which would also explain why the tomb was never actually found). The guard (who wasn't explicitly said to be Roman, btw) could've used Occam's razor to make the following deductions: 1) I fell asleep guarding a tomb with a body inside. 2) I woke up and found the door open and the tomb empty. 3) let's eliminate the impossible, Sherlock Holmes style: since dead people coming to life has never happened and will never happen, it's safe to assume that this dead guy didn't magically come back to life either. 4) that means someone who could open a tomb (i.e a human or multiple humans) came and stole the body. 5) the only humans who'd want to steal this guy's body are his followers. Case closed. A bunch of Jesus's followers not believing he came back from the dead is also very easy to explain: the "resurrected" Jesus was a fraud. That's why his closest disciples spent a whole day with "him" without recognizing him until he told them who he "is", and why some of them needed extra "convincing" that it really was Jesus.

@ Matthew Hondra: First setting aside that there is a reason your name is Matthew, and not Nero, Vespasian or Tiberius (those are name s we give to our dogs - we call our sons Matthew, John, Andrew, Stephen, Peter) let's begin. And what science and probability theory would you like to see? Tell you what, when you can walk through and explain to all of us the complete proof of Fermat's Last Therorem, THEN you have a snowball's chance in hell of possibly following a pure logical proof of scripture. Even then I suspect that any such proof of scripture amd God would be ORDINAL orders of magnitude (and if you don't know what this means, you get to shut your mouth about science from here on out) more complex and interconnected than the proof of Fermat's Last Theorem. And after all is said and done, you'll have to contend with Goedel's Incompleteness Theorem. Now you mentioned probability theory. I assume you have a working definition of what "random" means before we get started? And assuming you do (and that would be a publishable result) the I'd ask what underlying probability distribution(s) you propose to use to assess the likelihood of biblical truths, and how you arrived at them. Just understand that since history is NOT a repeatable experiment, the classical laboratory "scientific method" will NOT be available to you. The consequences of this are that (a) Bayesian methods of fine-tuning your prior and posterior distributions will fail on commencement, and (b) calibration of ANY such distribution is impossible, as every dataset consists simply of a single observation, since you will need to both assume and deny stochastic independence, at the same time! No, the best standard of proof you can hope for for scripture is ONE of the two methdologies available to us these days: criminal court and civil court. The Case for Christ on a civil court standard is a virtual slam-dunk. You are stuck with the methods of criminal court. The court asks for evidence. We provide the bible. The defence provides ZERO evidence to the court to refute the case that God and scripture represent truth, and i stead claims our evidence is invalid, and challenges us to prove our evidence is admissible. Atheists' court methodology is so pathetically weak I sincerely hope to NEVER be defended in court by an atheist! They SUCK at the whole process. Well, except for those who have yet to see these arguments, and be given the evidence and supporting documents. But someone like Richard Carrier is too useless at critical analytic reasoning for me even to interview as staff in any kind of complex regulatory analytical function.

For some reason I didn't expect to see Turek at Morningstar. This pleases me.

@DeaconDeZ It's interesting how you mention the grapevine in the same breath though, because the grapevine is a much better analogy of how the gospels came to be. This completely destroys the idea of "perspectives" at all, as people a step or two down the chain really have zero knowledge of the original events and can't begin to judge what's true or not. Which is why hearsay is thrown out as evidence in courts and the scientific method.

It is true that our guilt for sin is indeed a reality. However, Jesus went to the cross willingly, meaning that we had no power to put Him there. Taking credit for us having put Him there steals from Him the total glory of His wondrous love for us in spite of our sinfulness. Frank has fallen into that same error shared by so many. How tragic.

Would a writer of fiction make up so many characters with the same name, like Mary? Would a writer of fiction pen that confusing stuff in Romans about circumcision and uncircumcision?

The New Testament is embarrassing, nonsensical and false too.
