X-Men Election - 2022 edition! Marvel is at it again and wants to relive the glory years of just one year ago by throwing another X-Men election at us. I’m not sure whether to love it or hate, but we sure got some interesting candidates this time around.
Join me as we take a look at what each of these candidates has been up to recently, and I give my personal opinion on if I would vote for them or not!

Let's not forget that Surge not only destroyed a Nimrod unit with her friends and saved Forge, but she also held her own and defended her friends against the Purifiers and eventually got her revenge.

Sorry. Firestar's power are actually electromagnetic manipulation and radiation projection. She developed breast cancer because of her powers. Although sorely underutilized she is far more powerful then Sunfire. Yes they both fly and are associated with fire. But her powers aren't fire based unlike Sunfire.

True, but under lesser writers & artists, they will both LOOK LIKE they have the same power sets. I do hope if they are both on the same team, then the writer & artists should explore just how different their actual abilities are (& visually also not just both throwing flames). Sunfire's fight with Feilong looked so badass. I hope they let Firestar cook a robot/ monster from the inside with her microwaves. LOL.

Sunfire powers are plasma based, he has a lot of immunities.

1) Cerise's name is pronounced "Sir-eese" or "Sir-eeze" -- it is French for cherry, but more appropriately it is the name of a deep pinkish-red colour. 2) I agree with your assessments, and feel that Mircomax's power set is unusual enough that he would stand out on the team (not to mention very valuable).

I voted Firestar which when you think about group dynamics probably won't happen as Sunfire is on the team. My reasoning was because Firestar has never really featured in any of the X titles, she has also been part of the Avengers, New Warriors and an ally of Spider-mans. Also she would be commonly known amoung the human community which would help the X-Mens popularity. I would also like to see Firestar look more into her mutant background plus where Firestar goes Justice isn't far behind.

Micromax: just to clear things up, his mutant ability allows him to manipulate the size and shape of any part of his body. His entire body does not have to get big or small, he can make part of his body even just his pinky incredibly large or small. He actually has complete molecular control of his entire body. Side effects include super strength, greatly increased durability, increased agility, accelerated healing, limited shape shifting and increased intelligence. 🤓

@@chrissegee actually that's not Apocalypses mutant ability, he gets all his molecular shifting abilities from celestial technology. His actual mutant abilities are immortality and telekinesis along with limited telepathy. Oh and let's not forget his blue skin and lips which are a side effect of his mutation. Literally everything else he can do comes from celestial technology.

I voted for Monet. She’s definitely overpowered but I’m here for the drama she brings. Plus she didn’t get her due in X-Corp. My 2 runner ups were Surge and Avalanche. I thought both of their powers would be excellent additions to the current squad. Plus I love what they did w Pyro in Marauders and would like to see a similar fun redemption done for Avalanche.

I voted Surge because we need fresh characters, Firestar, M, Gentle and Armor were already X-men at one point, Syrin is a close contender but after seeing your video Micromax indeed need to be because of his unique power. Bling, Avalanche and Gorgon don't feel like X-men material to me even though Avalanche personality would be cool drama, kinda like X-men evolution

@@Jumpoable Lots of previous villains in X-teams these days. Pyro, Quicksilver, Magneto himself, Scarlet Witch ... all former villains. And Avalanche used to be a "national hero" back from his days on Freedom Force.

If I recall Micromax, he also has limited shape-shifting abilities. When his power was inhibited or he was unconscious, his body reverted to a balding, middle-aged man who wasn’t as fit as he normally looks.

Yes he was a middle-aged balding dude with a beer gut lol. The same story that revealed that also revealed that he used his powers to manipulate his looks in order to look more attractive so people would have faith in him as a hero. He just wanted to help people, that's why he deserves a spot on the X-Men team. He's really quite an intriguing character.

I wonder if the candidates that lose will also make a new X team like the Secret X-men revealed this year. I think that if they keep doing these elections to add a member to the main X-men team while they made new X teams from the other candidates could be an actually an interesting way to use all those characters and to make new X books or interesanting teams we couldn't even imagine before 🤔

I voted for Monet, and initially shared your sentiment that she would be the obvious fan fave. Nostalgic Gen Xer, awesome personality, friend of the gays, person of color, much needed Islamic rep! Total package! Upon reflection: Honey, We've Got A Big Storm Coming! And her name is Angelica Jones! The honest truth is that casuals don't know any of these characters outside of Spider-man's Amazing Friend, who exists on a little thumbnail on their Disney + app. Casuals love them there Avengers. They love Spider-friends. Meanwhile, Monet has been in zero adaptations. The Penance identity is confusing for lapsed comic fans. I think we can all agree that Lorna's victory last year was somewhat influenced by Gifted fandom. My non-X-men husband narrowed his vote to Avalanche and Firestar, because they are literally the only ones he knows! I wouldn't be mad with any result, but I hope people don't get whiplash from the result.

I voted for Gorgon. But why not add at least two more characters to the X-men squad. I do agree that a continuing team shakeup does take away the comradery and history a long standing team has with each other. They develop bonds and history with each other and know each other’s strength and weaknesses. I personally don’t want a continued team shakeup. I think it’s time to have mutant villains be villains again, at least some of them.

It was pretty tough, this year's selection of candidates is really good, but I just had to vote for Monet, she's just so badass and Tini Howard really misused her in X-Corp. Penance should be an A-Lister, she's so powerful, and yet so underrated...

New Warriors with some of these characters might revive the team. Penance could lead New Warriors and give the current New Warriors a new start in addition to whom ever does not get voted. Fire Star is like Spider Woman whose been around for years. I could see Penance, Justice and Night Thrasher. Penance is my choice for X Men.

Gorgon post X of Swords resurrection would be interesting, haven't seen too much from him dealing with a new personality aside from being demoted from a great captain, the hellions had more character growth after their change aswell. My vote is gorgon he's not the same character could be fun. I'm all for villains turning a new leaf to help Krakoa.

How come these X-titles keep skipping my boy Julian Keller? He was an awesome character who was seeing some growth, then they pushed him into obscurity. Remember that at Xavier's school he was voted most likely to become an X-Men.

I'm rooting for Monet, Armor and Gentle, but i wonder if this new member will enter the team as one of the old ones leaves Those 3 could fill Rogue's role as the muscle of the team in the same way that firestar could fill Shiro's role of flashy fire-y powers But i really like the current team and don't want any of the members to leave it 😭

I have some clarifications regarding this year’s voting. In aipt there was a question why armor was included again in the polls but the others in last year’s voting is not. Jd white said others not included might mean that they are already in the new team and doesn’t need the voting process. So may question is, will the new team replace completely the current team? Duggan is confirmed to write the new team. That is my understanding. I agree the voting seems very early and the current team’s potential is not even reached yet. I voted for Gorgon haha.

I voted for Firestar. I know her powers are kinda redundant because of Sunfire buuuut. I think she would be a good addition because of her stance on mutantdom and Krakoa. She represents a member of a minority that wants to do things other then activism. She wants to be a hero and just fight the good fight. Plus I think it would interesting to have her talk about living on Krakoa and Krakoan citizenship. We’ve gotten like no stories about mutants that don’t want to move to Krakoa permanently.

I voted Micromax mainly for his power set and i know next to nothing about him. Second vote would go to Gentle, he has alot of untapped potential. Avalanche gorgon and firestar i also considered but firestar's power set is already present on the team. Obscure characters i want to see though are Delgado and Chrome from the Acolytes, Marvel needs to resurrect them and finally give them some attention

I think having one of the younger kids join would be great. Trying to prove themselves to the more experienced x-men could be a great story line. Plus the current x team just feels too powerful and capable to me. I know that sounds weird, but they really do come off as someone’s ideal team which makes finding reasonable adversaries difficult. With the heavy hitters they currently have I always scoff when they struggle against enemies who aren’t world enders. This is why I typically prefer the younger x teams. I think Bling, Surge, Gentle or Armor would make great additions. Also Monet was sooo annoying in Xcorp. I don’t think I want to see her for a while.

The current X-Men team IS supposed to be experienced & too powerful. It's their public face for Krakoa, & they can't afford to have amateurs or kids on the team messing things up. It's not a team from a school for gifted youngsters anymore. I'd like to see Micromax on the team! He's got field experience as a government agent, but since Marvel UK is doing a Brexit for mutants as well, he can join & meet his fellow mutants!

Thing is don’t think these kids are amateurs anymore. They were all introduced more than 15 years ago and have had their stories about coming into their own and learning how to be X-Men. A bunch even formally graduated at the end of Wolverine and the X-Men. The only reason they’re still viewed as students is because Marvel doesn’t want to age up the 05 and ANAD crew past 30.

1st of all I love your videos. I love that your an oldskool xmen reader and your deep cuts and obscure knowledge of real xmen comic book knowledge is a breath of fresh air compared to all the other comicbook youtubers whom mostly joined as a fan during xmen 90's cartoons and mcu. You definitely go way back to the greatest era in comics and have love and reverence for that period. I love the attention to detail each on of your videos pays to the xmen, their history, characters and personalities. I look forward to all your videos and your takes. I feel as if we'd spend hours debating and reminiscing over the glory of xmens past. Like you comics have been a huge part of my life, and personality development growing up. Comics were there throughout all the years all the good times and bad. Especially the bad times. I grew up with kitty, Rachel, rogue, the new mutants, alpha flight, power pack, and the xmen as well. Agree that M is the obvious frontrunner. Also agree that I would like to see MicroMax win. I would have preferred Cerise return. (btw -Cerise is also a name for a red color and is pronounced SE-REESE) Kelly Thompson did some great work bringing back amazing characters like Cerise in Mr and Mrs X. I can't understand why she's no working on an x-Title. Mr and Mrs X were some of the best X stories in decades, imo.

The team already has Sunfire, so I doubt Fireststar is needed. Avalanche and Armor are both on SWORD Station 1. Siryn pops in everywhere. Surge is a maybe. Micromax is the new face. He hasn’t been seen in the Hickman Era yet and his power set is perfect for the team, although I preferred they resurrected Tower for the team. And Rogue is the powerhouse of the team, so Gentle isn’t likely a strong candidate. I like how you showed Phantazia as a possible candidate. We haven’t seen her in a long time.

I would love to see Surge on the team. I think you did my girl a little dirty. She was the leader of the New X-men team along with Prodigy, and they were involved in a lot of the Messiah Complex era shenanigans. She frequently had to collaborate with Emma and Scott, who oversaw the team. She had a rivalry with Hellion and had to keep X-23 in check, because she was such a wild card. Surge's biggest problem is that all the writers since haven't really developed her as a character, leader or mutant. Especially considering how chaotic the Utopia era was, with no splinter young X-men teams to lead. I think this could be a perfect opportunity for her, maybe build on her relationships with Wolverine and Cyclops, which have already been established, her maybe being Scott's protégé . Also her powers are more absorbing and discharging electricity, when she absorbs enough she uses it as a battery for her body to move with superhuman speed.

1. (My vote) Surge. She deserves it, the character has been in the background since her introduction and the way I see it.... with Storm busy being literal Queen, Surge can kinda fill that spot minus the gale force winds and tornadoes 2. Avalanche. I've loved incorporating former baddies into the mix they bring such a fun and "unhinged" dynamic and Lance is a PERFECT addition. I've wanted him to be an X-Men since X-Men Evolution where he was accepted as an honorary student at the mansion. Only didn't vote for him because Rictor has been pretty prominent recently and they have similar powersets :/ 3. Firestar. The forgotten mutant that's never around and when she is, she's overlooked. Love her, want more from her as I literally can't remember a time where she was even a semi key player.... again didn't vote her because her and Sunfire have very similar powersets 4. Armor. Another character I really really REALLY enjoy whenever we get to see her and it feels like every time we see her she's gained more control over her ability. She's a badass and the only reason she didn't get my vote is because she's literally been an X-Men before :/ 5. is a toss up between Syrin and M.... I'm partial towards M because to me she's the perfect mix of Logan, Emma Frost, and Rouge she just reminds me of a badass version of the "Mean Girl" in like a HS based movie. She needs something to do also and being an official X-Men could ground her and allow her to fully establish herself but Syrin is such a light fun character too and just like her father is a versatile powerhouse that would make a GREAT Official X-Men.... she could provide excellent support in the field Bling and Gentle are cool characters but in Bling's case I don't feel they're ready to go big scene just yet... Gentle has a spot *somewhere.* I would say X-Factor if they were still sanctioned... but Gentle is gonna be utilized in some fashion soon

Onto my vote, I'd have picked Firestar, she's always been one of my favorites since the Saturday morning cartoons. I love her sassy smart mouth and beautiful gorgeous red hair. I always felt as if she wasn't used enough nor right as compared to her animated version. I've always wanted her wrapped up into the forefront of the xmen mutant universe. Sadly it has not happened yet. She's among the most powerful and most interesting characters whom never been written in comics as such since her time with the new warriors. I never liked her as an avenger and my hopes got up when she finally joined the xmen. But that went nowhere. Her time with spiderman and iceman is severely underrated and her time as a xman in that universe was a huge plot to her character. The episodes where the xmen guests stared especially 'Firestarter is born' not only introduced me to the xmen but made her one of my all time favorites. That whole series is tied with dungeons and dragons as my all time favorite childhood memories and TV cartoons series. I would love for Firestar to finally get her rightful place as one of Marvels greatest redheads next to Jean Grey and MJ. I especially would love to see her with Tom Hollands spiderman alongside iceman for a Sony spider friends movie. Deep cut. Plus they could have her and sunfire have a romance just as they did in the cartoons. Seeing her and Jean take on Emma and Selene, just seeing her as a powerhouse. After all the hellfire club was training her to become an assassin to kill Selene. Time to revisit that plot line given nimrod, the hellions and the hellfire club are all at the forefront of the xmen these days. Exploring her connections and place in this universe would be awesome. I also agree Monet would most likely will win. She's my second choice. Followed Gentil, Siren, and armor. I've never been a fan of Micromax. Hated him on Excalibur, I have no use for bling. I like surge as well but agree all the newer younger mutants would best be on new mutants than xmen. As for the villians I want the bad guys to stay bad. Time for the bad mutants to return to their bad guys self. I'm tired of this bad is good good is bad satanic bull ish In everything. Unless its organic like Emma frost. Her actual history , transformation and stories naturally lead her to becoming an xman and a hero whose lost none of her bad self. She's just fighting for the good guys now. Her losing her students, being rescued by the xmen multiple times and her times as the new mutants mentor, plus her time with magneto as his white queen naturally lead her to becoming first a teacher then a full-fledged xman. Grant Morrisons greatest contribution to the men. Then having her fall in love with Scott Summers that all happened organically. And we loved every delicious moment of it. But all this the good guys are all evil and bad like professor x and magneto while all the bad guys are good guys but misunderstood. Like all recent Disney movies like Maleficent and Cruella. Give me a break. We love for our villains to be villains. And out heroes to be heroes. You have you occasionally great stories such as superior spiderman and the thunderbolts where the villains while trying to be villains inadvertently becomes heroes somewhat. And heroes who fall from grace whom become villains through their experiences and situations such as cyclops and magneto. But this trend of making all the good guys evil and all the evil guys good is insidious and diabolical at it's nature. Making superman and batman into murderers. The xmen into a moral racial supremacist, and serperatist. DC and Marvel making all its white male characters into evil jerks killing them destroying them turning them into the worst, NAZI captain America, unworthy thor, dead tony stark, iron man., infamous iron man, evil Reed Richards. Its a absolutely terrible. Batman welding a gun an mowing down regular people, evil superman, green tittymilk old man Luke Skywalker and deadbeat dad Han Solo. These people writing comics and movies are evil at heart and love to currupt, subvert and destroy that which they on their best day could not hope to create. If you have to tare down something else to try and make yours look better then you FAILED. This deliberate confusion and superimposition of what is good and what's evil is tired, old, and cliche at this point and it's the only thing they seem interested in doing. The mutants needs their true factions back. Their true rivalries. How can tge morlocks forgive tge marauders for mass extinction level genocide, of sinister for that matter. How can they accept xmen running around with that name. How can the shadow king, sabertooth, the true marauders, sinister and Selene whom are irredeemable be there side by side without any consequence for their past, or black ops xmen version of xforce and beast go without any question or consequences to their actions? If your going to go there, go there and have consequences and repercussions. But to have children acting as serial killers like nature and noone bats a eyelash. Wtf is this evilness being written as entertainment? I'm just saying they are over the line and it's way past time we fans stop accepting it and to make our comics great again. There's gotta be an endgame to all this Krakoa business. As novel as the idea of the Heroes & Villains working together is, it's not sustainable as a long-term norm for the x-universe, and nor should it be. The villains have done reprehnsible things in the past and sweeping it all under the rug actually says a lot more about the heroes than it should. I think Krakoa and mutant paradise is a fun little diversion for now, just to see something new, but I almost feel like it is starting to get old already, and I'm more curious about how it's going to self-destruct instead of seeing it flourish.

They completely got away from Hickmans ideas and plans, they basically took over his vision and ideas and are now just a bunch of larpers making up their own thing. The inmates are running the asylum. I was never a fan of the krakoan era. Especially the getting killed and resurrection thing. The heroes and villians all together in one big tea party. There were a few bright spots like hellions and sword i especially love the return of wizkid and Nancy and orphan maker. I loved Doug, warlock and krakoa getting major spotlights. I was at first happy for the return of the original psylocke that is until they made her captain Britain. Betsy was always jealous of her twin brother. Instead of reclaiming her own identity she stole his. However, pretty much everything else not only is a wash but absolutely a terrible idea going forward into the future. Death has no meaning, no consequences not repercussions. Now most of them are all plant based pod people. All their histories all muddled. Xmen, marauders, hfc, brotherhood acolytes morlocks all mashed up together. This all feels like one giant fanfiction. Like it's not real or some MOJO verse nightmare version of xmen reality. They marvel, have painted themselves into a corner, just because THEY COULD, they didn't stop to think about wether THEY SHOULD. I'm sure Hickman had an endgame and goal, but these other less talented posers and fan fiction writers haven't the talent or skill to put it all togetheror have a brilliant endgame. Terrible books i.e. Excalibur, xforce, wolverine, xfactor were terrible. While sword, hellions and new mutants were excellent. Or at least interesting. Xmem by election, hf gala every conical year? Not only have they lost the plot, but they have no idea what to do next. Everyone was so caught up in something new and exciting with HOX/POX but didn't consider the ramifications of what it would mean beyond that point. This is that mythical utopia that progressives image that they can create without any purpose, any consequences, any accountability, endless immortality and endless parties. Elitism, segregationist, ethnonational state, above the law and independently wealthy and lords that power over all nations. Worldwide drug dealers. Holding nations hostage in exchange for goods. This is HORRIBLE WRITING. The delusional dreams and desires of authoritarian dictatorship and progressive mindsets. This goes against everything professor x and the xmen have ever stood for. Now they are the villians. Professor x and magneto are evil. Storm an untouchable goddess. Takes away her entire 80's run means nothing. Xmen calling themselves marauders for pete sake. Franklin Richards, quicksilver and scarlet witch no longer mutants anymore. Moria a mutant with 10 lives, immortal pod people, our heroes being villians and villians being heroes. Everyone are just fine working with each other dispite past histories and experiences. No moral consequences, Look at that trash with nature girl as a serial killer. The shadow king allowed to run around children, babies being made and left with no responsibility. Wtf is this? There's a clear divide between oldskool long-term fans and new people just arriving. Some parts I liked. Most of it just didn't make sense nor felt like we were in the actual 616 reality. Maybe the 617 reality. Or the 161 reality. I hope that the real Xmen and reality is still there and this is just some dream or alternative reality we fell into but didn't realize it like back in the day with Chris Clairemont and Alan Davis Excalibur cross time caper, or MOJO world. All the camp and novelty definitely wore off a while ago. The xmen battled the likes of the Advasary, the Beyonder, the marauders, Mr. Sinister, Apocalypse and the Reavers, now they fighting grannies in panties and allowing regular humans to shoot them in the face and kill them for no reason. After surviving everything from the savage land, the original battle world, death itself the outback, deep space, and Geneosha they get killed sometimes dozens of times in a single issue like its nothing. This current continuity absolutely destroys the actual xmen universe and time-line unless it can be erased or reset. This is the xmens version of the clone conspiracy/one more day. It just didn't seem to be at first but because Hickman had a vision but now that he's gone and you have 10 incompetent chiefs in the kitchen. Stagnation and decay are setting in. I gave it a chance to see where it was going but somehow I knew it wasn't going to end well. I listened to everyone else's excitement and praise over the Hickman krakoa era of xmen., the quiet council, the five, the galas where nothing really happened. Then when Hickman left because too many people in his pot, everyone wanting to do their own thing, it was soon apparent this was going to go off the rails, and fans would end up disappointed and worse the xmen would continue to suffer mismanagement and abuse as they have for decades now Outside of the Clairemont, Morrisons, Weadon runs. I hope you make a video on this. Especially with your attention to detail. I like you love xmen above all else. In comics except for spiderman for me. They deserve better. We deserve better. Once the xmen RULED the comics industry for decades. 1975-1991. During which time storm ruled the xmen, the xmen were legends and tgey defined an entire industry as the bar. That's the xmen I miss and want back. Actual action, adventure, romance, fun, danger, cliffhangers, soap opera, space opera, consequences and repercussions. Not fan fiction shipping and reddit posts. Gotta be honest. If this is any indication of the future of the x titles I am genuinely worried. It seems like the SECOND Hickman is out the door they immediately fall back on recycling ideas that previously boosted sales instead of coming up with new creative ideas that draw in readers organically. It feels like the writers have no idea what to do with the world Hickman has created. Which isn’t surprising considering it’s waaaay out there as a concept and only worked because Hickman is such a talented writer. I could be wrong. I hope I’m wrong. But I am seriously concerned.

Firestar for the win! Her powers are different from Sunfire. In fact neither of them are fire based. Unfortunately artists draw them as "firey" looking. Firestar is electromagnetic microwaves. She has to hold back when using her powers because she'll literally rip the earth's atmosphere apart.

Surge just got my vote. I reread parts of Academy X recently, and was reminded of how much she grew over the course of the story. I think she'd add a lot to the team, and be another youngish voice for the team, like her classmates from the Xavier School like Laura. Micromax is quite the throwback, and he was in my all-time favorite book (Excalibur v.1), but he didn't make as strong an impression as Ky'lun, Cerise, or even Feron. I'd forgotten he was there, until hearing this video.

Money for the drama. Surge, Firstar (only if Sunfire leaves), Gentle (he just needs to be in any team so that we can complete unfinished plot lines from X-Men Red), and Avalanche are the only other viable candidates to me. The rest are just "meh". Gorgon should be on a team but not an X-man.
