Courtney was a sweet girl, if sometimes a bit vapid. Still, she was better than Dodie, in my opinion, who was shallow and materialistic much of the time. Courtney at least tried to understand Ginger, not intentionally looking down on her. I hated Miranda, that's for sure. Ironic, but fitting, that a cop's kid would be such an aweful brat!

@tierefuerimmer96352 жыл бұрын
Everything Miranda has done: Tried to humilate Ginger by getting her to wet the bed. Mocked Ginger for believing her had a mental illness ie:she said "I know that I wanted you to disappear but I didn't know did" (seriously who does that?) Used peer pressure /manipulation to coerce Ginger into committing an illegal act then ratted her out . Was a cold bitch after Ginger was recovering from appendicitis and nearly DIED. Tried to get Ginger to stay away from friends and family longer than anticipated. Framed Ginger so she could get the lead in the play. Blackmailed Ginger into stop being friends with Ginger by threatening to tell ppl about her legs. The one time she's actually nice to Ginger she's like "Ugh. This is too overwhelming " Excluded Ginger's friends. Has abandoned Courtney on more than one occasion. Made up rumors about the new girl Has been all around heartless and bitchy to everyone except her dad. Things Dodie has done: Was upset and angry with Ginger for getting the lead role in a play w/ a guy she liked Tried to break up Ginger and Darren. Faked an injury to get on the cheer squad. Spread gossip on the announcements and ratted out Ginger's mom Told about students who had lice over the announcements and nearly humilated Courtney Tried to get Ginger to cancel a party because she wasn't allowed go, which is unfair. Told about Ginger's hairy legs .

As According to Ginger was my favorite when I was in middle school, not just because I was also in Middle School, but because of how RELATABLE Ginger was. I was Ginger, I had an odd family dynamic, and I had “cool” friends I felt like I needed to impress, and my friends that were like me that I felt comfortable with. I can’t think of a more relatable kids show!! This is also why I don’t understand why these topics are typically considered too heavy for kids shows, especially considering how many kids deal with these issues themselves. I was a child abandoned by a parent, and I had a lot of feelings about that as a child, and having stories like this helped me understand them better.

Geez, I was *just* thinking about this show the other day, how much I wanted to re-watch it, and how frustrating it is that there are *very* few ways to legally watch the series (which seems to be the fate of most animated “girl’s shows” *cough* “Pepper Ann” *cough*). I remember feeling oddly fascinated by this show as a kid, since even though I was around the same age as the characters, their middle school experiences were completely different from my own (popularity seemed like such a confusing concept to me, so I did not understand why the characters tried so hard to achieve it). I feel that now that I’m older, I think I can properly identify my feelings towards this show, once I give it a re-watch. Also, this show and “Rugrats” were the few Chanukah specials I saw on TV, and both served as my introduction to the festival. So thank you for reminding me of how special this show was, and for reigniting my wish to watch it again. (And for the final Ginger x Courtney comment! Glad I’m not the only one who was thinking it!)

Also, I say it's about time we get some "Ginger" goodies in the Nick Box (I'd personally like to have either a replica of Carl's eyeball-in-a-jar, or Hoodsey's iconic hoodie)! Their social media has mentioned the show before, so why can't the Box itself represent it? But from the 2-5 minutes of each clip (as few and far between as they are), I became deeply invested in the writing of the characters. I loved Ginger and her mother's personality, and even though I was able to tell what type of characters the rest of the cast were meant to reflect/convey (albeit roughly) I felt they must've been fleshed out enough for each plot. I don't think I've ever witnessed such obvious character development, the writers clearly cared about them and what they conveyed and it makes me so sad I never got to grow up watching it. A show like this would've helped my writing style immensely (I also happen to have a hobby of writing, as Ginger seems to have).

You'd be surprised that in the US in the early 2000s, most of the best schools were public schools. I think it was only 10% of Americans who went to private ones. The Griplings are rich but they're not famous famous, so maybe the children go to public school since they don't need the privacy and safety that a child star or celebrity's child might need. Kinda like Mean Girls, where Gretchen and Regina still go to public school when they're from wealthy families.

I think they only got away with it because they did had a very diverse cast in general, with the main love interest being a black boy, and this is the same studio that created other awesome black characters like Susie in Rugrats. I don’t think many people ascribed Miranda’s meanness to being black so much as she was just a jealous bitch and a simp for Courtney.

Dude I remember parts of this show, but didn't know if it aged well or not. Maybe I'll give it a shot. Also I'm 28 and feel old as hell, so I'm glad I'm not the only 90s kid here haha

Cortney lacked depth, probably from lack of any real adversity and excessive praise. She is attracted to that trait in Ginger. Miranda was sexually attracted to Courtney and responded with jealousy.
