It shows the level of respect the photography community has for your critical eye Nick when folks at such an obvious advanced level would subject their work for critique. So many 'AHA' moments in your suggestions so thanks to those who are open to opinions and to being life long learners! One nugget I tucked away is not making the reflection brighter than the original subject and the reasons behind that. Thanks!

AGree with every one of your edit suggestions with the exception of the final one. I think that image was perfect almost as it was - in particular the symmetry of the tree height and reflection depth. Great video.

I love your critiques, they add so much to the perspective of the possible viewer of our images. My critical eye is slowly developing, but I get my daughter to come in and look before I finish a photo edit for a fresh perspective. She gives me some great feedback but nothing beats watching critiques like these to help train our eye for our own work. Thank you for doing such a great session.

awesome vid but i have to disagree with the heavy crop on the last image the snow one , you need that tree on the left to help anchor the scene and acts as a great feature to stop viewers eye from moving out the image also the fact it helps balance the picture as a whole :) all the best from the UK

Also, after watching several of your videos over the last couple days, I'm definitely going to have to add full versions of Lumenzia and TK8 to Mac, especially now that I understand both work on the Apple M1 Silicon Macbook Pros, because it's clear to me that working with luminosity masks (which I've never done) can take my work to a whole new level.

Thanks for doing these discussions Nick. I appreciate how you go deep enough to demonstrate matting to adjust and color highlights. The Miklos images are cool, but seem like composites.
@miklosrajczi Жыл бұрын
Hi Brett. My pictures are blends usually. The Milkyways for sure because the sky and the foreground always shoot separately. The foreground is usually stacked and light-painted or a pano-stack like the horizontal milky way image. The thunderstrike picture is actually a single-shot image. :P I was standing on the roof for 2 hours for that frame.
@BrettCarstens Жыл бұрын
@@miklosrajczi Thanks for the response. That thunderstrike is the one that seems most unlikely. So nice work catching that one! It's amazing. But stay off rooftops in lightning storms. 👍

I really love these critique videos and the images are spectacular however, I have a question about cropping. You seem to crop freely i.e. not using any aspect ratio - whilst this would be okay for social media I guess, how would this work if you wanted to print an image? Would you crop as desired and then add a border around the image which conforms to a standard format - 8x10, 5x7, 4x6 etc.would that be the way to go? What about if you were putting the images in a book? Same thing? Keep the critique videos coming, there's so much information divulged in them which makes them highly valuable. 👌👍👏
@NickPage Жыл бұрын
If an image makes it to print, that will be a Nut that will need to be cracked.. I often do this with my own photography, and when I print, I will either make an additional crop to one of those more common aspect ratiios.. or i will slightly transform the image to fit one. I often print in a variety of ratios however... 2:1 2:3 :16:9.... I prefer to crop to the composition, rather than try to squeeze a composition to a crop.
@alwyng572 Жыл бұрын
@@NickPage thanks Nick, food for thought. I like to crop to 16:9 and even wider at times to 6:17 but printing an image like that is difficult as it’s non-standard and regular print shops don’t want to know, not to mention custom frames. That’s why I was wondering how you would print an image which is cropped out of the norm for print shops or online services.
@NickPage Жыл бұрын
@@alwyng572 the print labs that I am familiar with. I usually always willing to do those custom aspect ratios usually for a slightly extra fee and it’s usually worth the extra 10 bucks to have a composition. You’re happy with !

Great video Nick! I really enjoyed that a lot. I love the way you critique other people's images, always helpful and always very respectful. I've also noticed that sometimes you only need to make a tiny little tweek to your original edit, to make it better. That's why it's important to walk away, give your eyes a break, and come back later and maybe see some slight detail you may have missed the first time. Always a pleasure watching whatever you do, thanks Nick!!
