Good video. I followed your 12ft, 3 bellied whip tutorial a while back but I braided the overly backwards because I wanted to have an english eye. The result was similar to what you talk about here. Mine is a bit longer and lighter but it cracks very easily and works great for doing wraps

In your opinion do you find it worth it to drop the strands from the tapered twist inside themselves like how Jon of eagle whips did it in your video collaboration about avoiding the double overlap? Just interested if you find it more even in tension or better looking or to slow to do or to much a pain etc. I did my first tapered twist with that method. It turned out ok. Just thought if there was something that stuck out to you as to one way or another I respect your opinion. Thanks mane!

Originally started from one of your early tutorials and whip basics stuff a decade ago, it’s fantastic to see your newer tutorials and work and how far you’ve refined your work! A question on the tapered twist, do you ever do it in the cow whip style with the strands joined together and staggered internally? I also find an eye on the end of a tapered twist is nice to have, tried my own way of doing it, and seen at least two other methods.

Hey Nick, what were you smoking when you came up with your strand lengths? Every single time they end up short, even when I add a few feet to compensate. I'm not making my whips overly thick, in fact they're pretty thin and my plaiting is tight so I can't think of any reason why they consistently come up short..?

Man, I just gotta say something. I have been obsessed with whips off and on throughout my life, mostly because of how much I love Indiana Jones. It was like the equivalent of his lightsaber, but actually real, and every bit as cool as you could ever imagine as a kid. I knew then I had to have one. I begged and begged my parents to get me a whip back then, but the only whips even available at that time 12 or 15 years ago were either outrageously expensive David Morgan-type whips, or pieces of garbage 4-plait fake leather whips without much in between. You either paid hundreds of dollars, or got what was more or less a prop whip. Fast forward to today, with a quick google search, I am finding actual real leather 12 or even 16-plait leather whips for $100 or even less. That is currently blowing my mind lol; you used to NEVER see that a decade ago. I eventually got my hands on a 6-foot, 12-plait nylon bullwhip for around $180 or so, and back then that felt like a total steal for such a whip. While that is a decent whip that I still love, there are now so many whips of way better quality materials and constructions for even less money that it is even hard to believe. Crazy how much the prices and availability of quality whips have changed for the better in less than a decade. I recently just got back on my whip obsession and will likely be purchasing the whip I have wanted all of my life pretty soon, and I am absolutely ecstatic about it. Finally I can have a real Indy bullwhip without paying $500+ for it! I would love if you ever did a video series reviewing some of those cheaper whips available on amazon sometime! This sentence even feels wild to type, but there are now so many options out there for what appear to be really nice whips that it would be great if someone who has a lot of knowledge like yourself could help sort through all of the options to find which whip is the best value for the money. I also love building things and working with my hands, so I will definitely be making my own whips soon as well, so thank you for all of your great videos here, man. You have reignited a love of mine, and I am super excited to get back into it! You are doing a lot of great, totally top-quality work here, and I wanted you to know that your hard work is very much appreciated!

Hi Nick. Sorry, probably it's not the best place to ask... Could you please compare nylon and polyester paracord? I mean to make a whip from nylon paracord and give it a good stress test? So I did something awesome I put I Long tapered twist on a thin English eye fall Hitch and it cracked super easy The English eye was thinner than the 4 plait at the end and The same thickness as the taper twist fall so it was replaceable and cracked with ease I did this because I loved the benefits of a taper twist but I’m a horsemen and I crack my whip on Sandy dirt in a round pen and i need a easy cracking whip so I have control so I don’t hit my horse and when I saw caliber whips English eye tutorial I had this brilliant idea and I decided to make the English is super thin and it paid off.

Nick great whip Brother. I did a tapered twist on a 3 Belly 8ft and 24 plait overlay. That cracked really easy i was impressed that tapered twist made a big difference. To bad it was early in my whip making. It really had a few lumps and bumps. As well as a few kinks. The transition was a bit limp.. Cant help but wonder what it would be like without the flaws. I thought about doing another but the amount of time involved keeps me from doing it for myself. I do alot of getback whips for motorcycles As well as bead work and chainmail that has me pretty busy. (Sorry Now im rambling) !! Anyway Great Work Friend! Keep on making great whip and Awesome Videos.

@NicksWhipShop I currently do not have the ability to wax my whips. Is there any advice you can give to getting a better flow out of them? My whips always seem stiffer than yours and don't roll out as nicely when cracking the whip. Thank you. And keep up the good work. I've learned a lot from your videos.
@RC_Berserker
@RC_Berserker 3 жыл бұрын
Waxing makes whips stiffer and heavier. The heat of the wax actually makes the nylon contract. Best advice is to roll them very well. Plait tight at the transition and gradually go a little softer with tension. Happy plaiting!

I've recently been building whips from your videos and also experimenting with some of my own designs. I have put tapered twists on all my whips so far and figured if they fall apart it's easy enough to retwist or even splice in some new Paracord as a repair. Or if you absolutely had to you could reduce the length a bit and fall back on the 4 point fall hitch. Pun intended

I usually use the tapered twist on shorter whips (like 3-5 ft). I felt like it suits them very well. As there is a lot of force at the very tip of the whip, as they get longer, i was always scared to put a tapered twist on a like 10-12 ft whip. Also i dont appeciate the maintenance on a tapered twist. But i might still try it. Keep those vids coming, as always love the content. Hope you and your beloved once are doing well, happy hollidays and looking forward for a happy new year.

Hootyhoo; Whatsup witt-chu & shit? It's Scott Outta Wa. Hey man nice whip; I really like the look of the platting on the handle in contrast to the thong; it really looks sharp. Almost looks kinda like a sward. I think I'm gonna put one together similar to this one; but maybe not quite as long; 6's a fairly desent length, so that's what I'm sticken to... oh yeah you never did get back to me bout the bull whip compared to the stock whip &(in your opinion) which one you feel cracks easier? mainly for a beginner; specifically a middle aged man, a professional at what he does and, maybe a bit intimidated by his older brother; who also by no means would he ever admit that last part aload. I can tell though; cause when he realizes it - he then just gets pissd off ; ' generally '.... w/no apparent reason. Anyways; I'd still like to know your opinion... but if you don't want to reply? bayla bayla! Ok , Well, good video, very entertaiining & I'll be watching for up n coming... THX AGAIN, Scott Outta Wa.
