Nicola, a recovery coach from Middlesbrough, shares her story of severe mental health.

Nichola, a recovery coach with Recovery Connections, opens up about her difficult childhood, suffering sexual abuse at the hands of her mother’s abusive partner. She describes feeling safe when she was at school and how she dreaded going home. Eventually, she opened up to teachers about the abuse she was suffering, and Social Services intervened to remove the abuser from the family home.
Nichola discusses the tragic death of her brother at a young age and her reliance upon cannabis to deal with her grief. She talks about living with borderline personality disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Nichola’s mental health symptoms confined her to her home for two years before she was finally able to seek the help she needed and turn her life around.
Nichola discusses the coping skills she developed in recovery and talks about arming others with these useful life tools.
