Not true. Andrew Wiles (the guy who proved Fermat's last theorem) was married and had kids when he finally proved the theorem. Being married doesn't remove your ability to work, especially as a man. In this he states It was the "most important moment in my working life". That man had his priorities straight. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYSadKt3qbtogdUsi=PjbAukYb0yAOpNho

@@mehakverma7043 Newton lived in the countryside to be alone. That's how you get calculus and physics. Eistein was married, but had to tell his wife to not speak to him apart from a morning greeting. Trivial matters occupy far more a person's life than they realize, but most wives obsess over the trivial and demand that their husbands do too. The great ones must tune out all the noise. Thom Yorke writes the entire albums, scores every instrument's part on his own and then collaborates with the rest of Radiohead. The emphasis on group work is misguided and robs half the population of their potential.

@@JL-ly7me A wife demands the biggest house the couple can afford and then scales back her hours as kids enter the picture, she demands the house further from his work so the kids have more room to play without the father she complains is never home though that was her intent all along, she nags so much he has to banish himself to the man cave in the basement of his own house to find a moment's peace... I could go on, but if what you're saying is true in the west, marriage rates wouldn't have declined from 40 out of 1000 to 3.6 out of a thousand in 50 years.

@@csn10 Andrew Wiles didn't shut away his wife when he was busy proving Fermat's last theorem. Einstein was autistic. There is a difference between being married and living out of the city. A lot of academics have to live in the city. Milton Friedman lived in the city. Thomas Reid moved from Aberdeen (a small university town) to Edinburgh (the capital). Everyone is not the same. Adam Smith was from Edinburgh, was he not intelligent? Oppenheimer had plenty of relationship issues while being married, yet he was still able to create the nuclear bomb under the pressure of war. Mf Elon musk is on his third wife!! His life is literally so chaotic, yet I don't doubt that he still contributes to the engineering sides of his companies. And on Radiohead, Jonny Greenwood is married, is he any less great of a musician than Thom Yorke? Everyone is different, you cannot apply the rule that everyone needs peace and quiet and needs to be emotionally withdrawn in order to produce great and intelligent work.

Optimization of the environment to achieve the main goals makes a lot of sense...As it is also the legacy through their work instead of having children, which makes women practically redundant in their lives. In a way, these men are father figures of many, even though they don't have families of their own. It really is a very different and solitary endeavour.

Riddle me this genius where do you think those kids came from? Damn why is having kids and wanting to dedicate your life to raising them always gotta be pushed then? And weak and “not complete”? Why not respect everyone’s path they take towards all inseparability? If woman are all the same what’s stopping you from dating a dude? It’s like doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, you know, insanity? 🤣

@@voidakolimbodagan8794 "If woman are all the same what’s stopping you from dating a dude?" Sometimes the left shouts: "don't you dare assume that a gay guy chose to be gay. He was born this way. The only acceptable option is to take him at his word that he's gay and to accept his sexuality. It's beyond monstrous to push a gay guy to date women.." Sometimes the left shouts: "hey heterosexual guy, go date dudes." So, is the left just being blatantly inconsistent to win arguments? Or do they hate heterosexual guys but not gay guys?

@@voidakolimbodagan8794 mate if I may intervene. Myself an average unemployed thinker here. Hopefully I am getting a clear picture of what you are trying to say. According to what I read you have questions regarding 2 issues 1. Marriage being looked down upon and in this context why not respect different people's paths inseparably. 2. Why not date men if women are a hassle and the same. 1. I don't think in general concensus and common sense it's looked down upon to have families and raising kids. It takes lots of factors to run a proper healthy family. Therefore like you mentioned marriage is a path which is Respected generally and so is the path of thinkers who chose to not marry, however the second path mentioned here is not so common these days. Any path is respectable in my view as long as it doesn't genuinely harm others. 2. Well mate. I don't know about the initiator of this thread's view on this topic neither do I yours. It would be nice to share yours too. According to me, my experiences and preferences. I'm not attracted to guys sexually so women fits that purpose. And I and a lot of guys do not romantically date men but are close friends with them and have a fun chemistry as buddies, bros, mates etc. Which in itself addresses the question that we do enjoy company of other men non sexually lol. This non sexual chemistry or relationship is a bigger part of any dating process and even committed relationships like marriages or else it's just for sexual needs to be met. Some women are really tough to handle and are not a good vibe to be around so I can feel some thinkers prioritizing their legacy and commitment towards wisdom knowledge and sharing of it over having a marriage. This is what @vdl3984 was saying. Additionally in choosing the path of wisdom and celibacy the thinkers are indirectly becoming like father figures for many, not by directly providing materialistic support, which is super important too but they are like father's to many people who need guidance. Specially the lost ones. No path is greater or better, to each their own, unless it causes serious harm. Do share your views mates. ☮️

@@ashutoshtripathi. The way I see it is, that he lived at the right time in the right place. I don't believe in the concept of the "chosen one", but I do believe that there are minds, which are just driven. For example you can not make someone have the same mindset as Michael Jordan, the same goes for Nietzsche, he was a searcher, and so was Schopenhauer too. BUT, if they were born today, I trully believe that they would just rage on social media the whole time. Schopenhauer was known for having arguments with people and sneering at them, he was a thick skulled man, Nietzsche also argued, I Mean just read his texts, he is not a Immanuel Kant, we can all agree to that. I believe that the main goal of our generation (I am in my 30s) and the next ones, is to learn how to walk through life, whilst understanding how to use social media and smartphones and whatever comes next as tools and not to allow these tools to turn us into brainless zombies. Even the musician Prince warned us about this, he knew what potential this technology has. Just think for a moment for what most people use their laptops, phones and or pcs for. It's mostly for nonsense. I am guilty of that too.

If it does not yield fruit, it is not wisdom. There is a fine line between not having distractions with the façade of humility, to be consumed by mere intellectualizing and not carrying your own weight - versus not having distractions so as to be more fruitful and beneficent in the (usable, not theoretical) wisdom and light you present in the lives of others. Being a nerd without income is unforgivable. We as the truth seekers are the most well-equipped and obligated to make more, serve others, and lead them to optimization. They would rather saddle up with the idea they’re too intelligent and different from everyone else to comfort themselves; rather than face the reality they’re just like everyone else and have to deal with the challenges accompanied with being a practitioner in the world in which there are no black and white theoretical answers to most of the problems we face.

Except that plenty of other famous philosophers did marry (e.g., Aristotle, Hegel, Marx, Mill, Dewey, Heidegger, Popper, Rand, Bertrand Russell, etc.). Nietzsche was just coping hard because he couldn't find a woman who matched his intellect and passion, or maybe the ones who did rejected him. Some years after he wrote Ecce Homo, he reportedly proposed to Lou Salome three times and was turned down each time. Sounds like sour grapes, which is characteristic of slave morality. How embarrassing. I love Nietzsche by the way, but he was, in the end, human, all too human.

A simple reason is that philosophers, by and large, tend to be odd ducks. Nietzsche certainly was. The odder you are (the more unusual, eccentric, unique), the more difficult it will be to find a match who is compatible. Conventional people have a much easier time of it. // In my youth, I always preferred Camus to Nietzsche. He was married a couple of times but knew the costs. He put it this way: "Domestic life, so often the opposite of an inner life." Right.

Many of Europe's scientists and philosophers lived life like a monk depressing all natural human desire for not just love but also sex. Arthur Schopenhauer, the German philosopher known for his pessimistic philosophy and influential works like The World as Will and Representation, did not have children. Schopenhauer never married, largely due to his belief that close relationships, particularly romantic or familial ones, could hinder his intellectual freedom and focus. In fact, Schopenhauer was famously skeptical about love and marriage, viewing them as driven by irrational forces rather than genuine happiness. He often argued that people are motivated by an unconscious "will to life" that drives them to reproduce, rather than by personal fulfillment. His views on relationships reflected his overall philosophy, which focused on the inevitability of suffering and the limitations of human desire.

Nikola Tesla believed family would distract from his work, remaining childless to focus solely on science. But many other greats balanced family and groundbreaking achievements. Albert Einstein had two marriages and two sons, proving family life didn’t prevent him from revolutionizing physics. Charles Darwin raised 10 children with Emma Wedgwood, who became his grounding force while he developed evolutionary theory. Marie Curie and her husband Pierre raised two daughters, one of whom won a Nobel Prize, achieving generational excellence without sacrificing family. Max Planck founded quantum theory while married with four children. Niels Bohr, a key figure in atomic theory, raised six children and mentored generations of scientists. William James, a founding father of psychology, had a happy family life with five children. John von Neumann, a genius mathematician and physicist, was married and had a daughter, contributing to both computer science and the Manhattan Project. Carl Jung, the father of analytical psychology, was married and had five children, bringing deep insight into human nature. Michael Faraday revolutionized electromagnetism and electrochemistry, finding stability in his marriage to Sarah Barnard. These examples debunk the myth that all great scientists were childless and happier for it. It reminds us that some great minds feel compelled to devote themselves entirely to their passions, often at the expense of a well-rounded personal life.

The concept of love is not a definitive aspect of reality. Its a concept with its roots in transactional desire. Its a hedonistic term. It has nothing to do with essence. To have abmn actual healthy marriage you need to have a space carved out for another person, mental emotional time etc, regularly each week. So it's not just cooperation & division of labor. When someone is at a certain level they spend like 90%+ of their available time on their preoccupation. This means not enough time to lend to and sustain a partnership, an actual healthy growing relationship but plenty of time for by contrast focusing on and promulgating your own thoughts. And of course there are those particular interpersonal relationship skills like self-reflection, awareness, emotional capacity emotional availability etc. Thus if you are not willing to use invest or exchange some of your time and also have the humility and willingness to be able to participate in this then you will not facilitate a. Relationship

Having a significate other takes compromise. It takes sometimes pretending to be wrong even when your right, simply for the sake of the relationship. I think truth-seekers see relationships as more of a burden for these reasons and they can, at times, come off as distant or unemotional, but that's not the case. I think truth-seekers just handle their emotions in a different way. I think EVERY truth-seeker gave at least one relationship the greatest try they could muster, but when it was all said and done it just didn't have the same effect that we see other relationships have on the people who are together, but I'll tell you one thing relationships are fascinating to truth-seekers. They may even want a relationship at times, but they know that how they are wouldn't even be fair to the other person.

Well, many creative geniuses also married. That being said, they lived in times when roles were more clearly defined. It was up to the women to care for the children, while the men focused on their careers or callings. Today, if the man is a genius, it probably wouldn't be optimal for him to marry. In fact, marriage would be a bad idea. One should also bear in mind that even if a book is great, it doesn't necessarily follow that the book will ensure a legacy or immortality. If you think that the book need only be good enough for that, you're naive. Luck, good fortune definitely plays a part and no one can know in advance whether a genius' name and work will live on after his death. So those illustrious thinkers took a major risk, if what this guy says holds water.

The more intelligent a person is, the harder it is to relate to normal people. That is because they think more deeply about things the average person can't comprehend, let alone care about. A highly intelligent person is more likely to try out new things and have weird interests which goes counter to what the average person values, which is familiarity, routine, fitting in, etc. This basically makes it very difficult to find a partner. Of course this differs between men and women. A highly intelligent woman would have a higher chance of finding a partner because women have a higher biological value. Most men will just pretend like they listen, care and understand what you're yapping about just so they can get some action. A highly intelligent man will have a higher chance of being a social outcast due to being weird and hard to understand. That is a turn off for women as a partner(provider) who can mingle with others is more beneficial for survival. The highly intelligent man will also be more awkward. Women can easily find someone who can blend in socially and isn't a weirdo, so why stick around? Intelligence is nothing to women without success backing it up and often times intelligence can actually be detrimental to success anyway. So you end up with an intelligent man who can't attract a partner, which means they don't have to constantly deal with a wife and a kid and have a lot of free time to think about stuff, like the human condition. This is how philosophers are born.
