Peaceful Watcher was completely ruined by the Judge and that plot line. The face reveal could have survived by being that twist that makes the Watcher even more disturbing. Because he seems like a harmless every man when he’s clearly not. But the Judge business is really pure garbage.

Ah, and as to your mid-video question: As soon as I saw "The Judge" I rolled my eyes and groaned so, so hard. This was a character that didn't need to be shown, didn't need to be seen. Just experienced through the character we're already following. But no, they had to "ToTheArk" it, to coin a term. He's this series' ToTheArk, or that...whatever society that was following the guy around in Tribe Twelve, just...an antagonist that shows up with cryptic messages poorly scrawled on something with the quality of a 3rd grade art project. Edit: Ah, you called him ToTheArk too, nice. xD

It'd be so much more interesting if this series was more of a voyeuristic thriller where the stalker learns some kind of dark secret or connection between their victims, or maybe they even already knew about that stuff to begin with, hence why they were being stalked in the first place. Look, I'm no writer, but that'd be something kinda new or different to the online storytelling formula at least.

I honestly agree with you, my biggest problem with the series is that Louis just isn't a satisfying protagonist, giving him something actually good to do, like stopping murders would have made it a bit better because then its more."he is fucked up but means well" which I thought they were going for but the further the story goes on the more unlikable he becomes xD

Phenomenal how they took a genuinely cool concept, i.e: Seeing something horrible unfold from the perspective of someone else doing something horrible; and turned it into the corniest most milkwater unfiction piece. There's definitely potential in this but it just goes and decides to be extremely corny partway through and gets rid of the really good concepts it had going for it.

Yeah. I mean it started tanking on the 'are you playing the game' and then like. I lost all interest when he denied the stalking (that chick catches him). Because the concept of him just being a naieve childlike person/creature who thinks they're his friend wouldn't have denied filming them. Denying it shows guilt and an understanding of wrong doing. Which just makes him an edgy stalker

It was actually Clayton that got tased, if you slow down the footage around the time Luis bumps into Clayton you can see Clayton wearing white shoes, and if you slow the video again around the time you see a person on the floor after being tased, you see the same white shoes, and the person wearing black shoes is the one that runs away, which is Luis.

I agree with you, in that 'the Judge' is a really weak premise. The "Judge" should have been a mysterious presence whose face we never see, whose voice we never hear... not even with a mask and audio filters, and who never even gives himself a title or name. He should have never appeared in first person onscreen... the death threats were unnecessary; I think it would have been scary enough, for some unseen presence to just leave small, creepy, but obvious 'breadcrumbs' that make it clear that he is stalking Luis from the shadows. BUT, I honestly think Luis choosing to show his face isn't a bad choice. I think the idea of the 'stalker who ends up a stalking victim' is a pretty clever idea... I can imagine Luis continuing to watch people, believing HIS actions are harmless... so he doesn't even think he might get in much trouble, if he were caught; so he happily shows his face, as if to say to 'the judge' that., "Unlike you, I'm not hiding, I'm not ashamed"-- Utterly unable to grasp that he *should* be ashamed.

I do agree I think a series where we follow a stalker whose proud of it and starts to uncover story lines from the people he watches could have been so interesting. They could have had a moment where they reveal the twitter handles (or something like that) of one of the victims and then we as the audience have to decide whether we try and warn them or not say anything so we can keep watching. And then if there was this second stalker character too, that could have really added something, like you said we see the Watcher get a task of his own medicine. Side note I love that Clayton is only mad about being stalked because the camera's cheap- he wants a stalker who puts more effort in to thier set up apparently. Also also when Nightmind laughs I picture him as a rich aunt drinking wine

Your comments about creators taking hiatuses and completing their projects in a timely manner exactly encapsulates my feelings about the direction of the Dad ARG. It's been going for over 2 years now and there seems to be no end in sight. Although there are regular uploads to the channel, it's nothing related to the ARG plot lines. Ever since iDubbbz creator clash boxing event was announced it's just been about that/ Matt Watson/ other sporting events. I know that Dad's ultimate goal is to be the best KZbinr, but I certainly hope we don't have to wait for him to be number 1 in sub count or something for that bc holy crap will this project ever end in that case? I know it's not related to this ARG, but what you said really made me think about that. I hope that the Dad ARG actually sees an end sometime soon.

A long time ago I had a supposed ''friend'' who was feeding information about me back to a guy who sexually assaulted me because she thought he was innocent and wanted to give him ammunition against me in the upcoming police case. About 3 months later, by random chance, she acquired a sexual stalker. Luckily she wasn't hurt, but it was a good case of karma. I also had a stalker for about a year that I called the police and they investigated. He claimed that I was ''bullying'' him and seemed to legit believe it. All the while sending me r**e and death threats. He was so stupid that one day he sent me a blackmail letter containing his name, address and bank details saying he would stop the threats if I paid him. And he *signed* it by hand, with his own signature hahahahaha. The police had a field day with that letter

this project feels a lot like the amateur ‘short films’ i used to make with friends to pass time over the summer. the execution isn’t great, but the story has good bones and there’s obviously been a lot of love put into it. you can really tell that the people behind this had a lot of fun making it, and, as a fellow creative, i love to see that. a lot of people get so caught up in making their work ‘good’ that they lose the passion that should be driving them and end up making lifeless, hollow work. personally, i MUCH prefer a series like this that’s fun despite being cliche/campy/kind of bad to something technically perfect but otherwise stiff.

This is kind of a silly critique to make, but I couldn't help but be completely taken out of it whenever Luis would curse while speaking to people face to face. I think his original presentation as so childlike and guileless had me thinking he'd act a certain way irl, and when he didn't it's all I was concentrating on. It could have been a cool little character beat to have him speak to others like he does to his video audience, but as it was performed it just felt like there was an unintentional disconnect between the two. Obviously not the series' biggest problem, just one that felt like a pretty obvious missed opportunity :/

It could have been such a power shift for one of the stalking victims to "unmask" Luis to his audience. I found myself hoping Clayton would do it during the physical altercation to continue the hunter becomes hunted storyline that was so present. Then, we could get the juxtaposition of seeing the human behind the camera without the disbelief that he would share his face and full government name while committing crimes.

Kudos to the people behind this project! It takes a lot of courage and effort to put together this kind of unfiction, and put it on the internet for everyone to critique. Most people never even get that far 🤷🏽‍♀️ Main critique: show, don't tell. A lot of the exposition could have been delivered in more visually interesting and engaging ways that really would have gone a long way to draw the audience in and create more buy in. Potential Improvements: I would have loved to see the idea of the "guilty bystander" explored in more depth. Using the audiences disdain for the watcher could have been a powerful critique of cowardice and exemplify the idea that evil isn't just "doing bad", but also failing to do good. I think this project had some good foundational pieces, but just lacked a nuanced understanding of visual storytelling, narrative structure, and a clear purpose/message/direction.

No message of Clayton taking his camera, and the one curled up on the ground looked to have been wearing Clayton's clothes (granted, we didn't see what Luiz was wearing), my guess is Clayton got tased... Hell, makes more sense that way as to how the video got uploaded in the first place. Since if Clayton took the phone, the video could NOT get uploaded at all, and the one to grab the phone was the one to run off...

As this form of storytelling becomes more and more popular, I really appreciate you being honest with your critiques. This genre is inherently interesting - so the storytelling is almost MORE important due to that. Because people are almost automatically intrigued by this format, it takes that much more to keep us engaged after the initial peak interest. Kudos for keeping your many eyes sharp as unfiction continues to gain popularity and change.

I will say that the premise was actually interesting. Following a weirdo as they stalk people is a interesting one that could get you into the head space of people that do this kind of stuff. The whole Judge thing is where stuff goes off the rails and falls in a ditch. Even with the Clayton reveal it still doesn't work. So he deemed Luis guilty for accomplice to Hector's murder and then decides to kill him. Then why the trials and the story time? It seems he held genuine hatred for the murder of his brother so why not torment Luis until the end? Even on the idea of torture it doesn't make much sense since a better torture for Luis would be killing those he saw as his "friends" like in the later attack on George. Which causes a weird mix of emotion when Clayton is beating on Luis. Knowing that Clayton essentially killed George, a victim in all of this just to cause Luis pain. It feels like a way to draw a comparison of Clayton and Luis. In they both are murders for selfish reasons. With Luis for his inaction in fear of his own wellbeing to Clayton's action in pursuit of harming Luis emotionally. So when the beating happens I don't feel any catharsis of watching Luis get beat just the feeling of one bad guy hitting another. In the end The Judge is still a murdering psycho and the reveal of it being Clayton just gives him an actual motivation outside of "likes to murder" Still doesn't make him anymore interesting however.

Gonna have to watch this one in full. I agree, this could've been so good with a little working around, loved the tenseness as Luis was watching, and then as everything went bad. Maybe as another commentator suggested, Luis finds out some secret or even that all his "friends" know each other and they start fighting back against him.

love unfiction and ARGs and have wanted to make my own but finding how to start is the hardest part. Luis as a stalker is so weird. instead of the normal stalker mentality of " i know this is wrong" he plays it like someone with a hobby that society doesn't really accept (like bronies and furries) and has to hide it when confronted but freely puts it on the internet.

For all its problems, I could see a really solid thriller movie made from this concept. Just needs a little trimming and streamlining. Even if you scrap the judge/court concept, and make it just a stalker being stalked, and being forced to out himself to his victims, that's a really interesting premise.
@DPSFSU
@DPSFSU 2 жыл бұрын
Were those supposed to be gunshots? This was, by far, the most outlandish concept we have seen lately. It would have been better if they kept with the "friendly neighborhood watcher" getting stalked himself. They really went off the rails with the judge thing.

At first I thought the Peaceful Watcher was like,, an entity, akin to 'the monster under your bed' lol. I know it's not that original, but it does allow a lot of story options too. Hope the creators can grow and make more interesting stuff!

I think what would have been more interesting is having the peaceful watcher actually end up as some sort of good guy because while they were stalking they ended up getting footage of shit going down, and then having the judge doing what he does after but instead of having him in videos he's in every video where he's watching from then on, getting closer. Edit: Oh. Honestly, I thought it would have worked better but I also feel like the execution was done poorly.

With better writing and execution the premise of a stalker being stalked by a masked entity slated to out him for his wrong doings would make an amazing short story

This sounded like it had a great premise, but the second The Judge showed up with his whole generic early-2000s edge I checked out. The words "I'm judge, jury and executioner" made me roll my eyes so hard and all potential interest was lost. Baffling choice, and I was so grateful to immediately hear your critique follow all that, Nick.

Haven't watched this in full yet, but I can't help but feel that the first rule in his code is a bit loaded. I can appreciate Scarface saying "no wife, no kids" because of the context. In the watcher's case, stating right off the bat he won't watch women or children directly implies there's something either decidedly unpeaceful with watching or that there are specific reasons he targets men. Looking forward to finishing this when I'm awake enough to focus. Thank you for your efforts!

this feels like when a scripwriter goes to a film studio with a great idea thats all planned out ...only to have the film studio stick their grubby fingers and mess with the og script in order to "make it more exciting". Like doesnt it? to start out so unique and interesting only to 180 pivot to mimicing older, better websieries SOOO BADLY it reeks of someone else coming in mid way and being like "nah man, we gotta do it like THIS cos thats how the ogs did it blah blah"

To me the character of Luis is just a very lonely guy, because it feels like he genuinely believes the people he's stalking are his "friends" and that whenever he's stalking them they're "hanging out together". I honestly feel kind of bad for him because it kinda seems to me like he has a lot of trouble making friends and talking to people so he resorts to doing this, because then he doesn't actually have to talk to people who will most likely judge him for his weird "hobby".

You know I can defiantly see how this could have been good. Rear window it, upload a few videos of people watching and then get one of something horrific or strange happening and go from there where the compulsion to watch becomes what keeps the protagonist going despite better judgment and that stuff with a watching the watcher could become a sort of race against time with increasingly close interactions like a Wolf closing in on its prey until the final reveal is the “super villain” of the story

As many flaws as Peaceful Watcher has, I've missed stories like this. I feel like the field is way too flooded with analogue horror these days. Nothing wrong with analogue horror at all, but I think a return to older styles has been overdue. I miss the style of the big 3, I'd love something like Daisy Brown or SeventyBroad again too. So yeah, this had flaws, but it was a nice change of pace

For me what hits the most about Luis and how he acts juxtaposed with how he looks and his age, is that it’s another things that shows the separation between his internal and external worlds. His ways of talking, moving, and acting when we finally see him on camera dont match with the way he writes about his watching. He is, as you say, a real grown man who speaks in a way that is, well, grown, unless he’s watching. I think this is the way Luis was learned to outwardly talk to people in the world. But his inner world is far different and the way he communicates when more inside that, aka while watching and making videos, is starkly different. When a person’s inner and outer personas are so completely different this is disturbing, as it reveals to us we actually do not know the person as we thought we did and that they are deceptive or disconnected. This is why I think Luis himself is more of a captivating thing within the story than any of the judge stuff. I also want to note this story drops something early on that I thought was going to be an interesting plot point, Luis’ friend at work. When he talked about this it sounded like maybe they were into watching together, and maybe wanted to grow their club or hobby. I was really interested in that and then it just never came back. Also, as a side note, as somebody who did a slenderman series back in the day, I literally laughed out loud at Reason’s, or whoever she was, LED proxy mask. Something about it finally getting to that point was just very funny to me

So I got to your question halfway through the video, and I have to be honest: You did your absolute best to make this garbage series seem interesting. I wanted to like this, but there really doesn't seem to be anything engrossing, intriguing or well-executed about this. The Judge is, as a character, full-blown laughable and can't for a second be believed as an imposing serial killer. Luis himself wasn't exactly entertaining in his approach, and the whole "XD RANDOM" vibe of his character was less childish and more irritating. Suffice to say, this didn't get good at any point - but thank you for getting back to the regular uploads and giving this the best insight you could! EDIT: okay, I made it to the end - having heard the final critique, I understand that there is a finalised product that isn't TOO bad overall - but this just didn't cut it for me. It felt like a really half-hearted tribute to unfiction, with throwaway references to some of the projects that inspired it which had no relevance whatsoever. Jalapeño was cute though.

The thing that really killed this for me was the writing for most of these characters especially Juan, his dialogue just consisted of the same thing said 12 times in a row, like a middle school gifted student who ended up in the program after cheating on all their tests and wants to "prove" their pseudo-intellectualism to everyone, and the second thing that bugged me was how Jalapeno wasn't the main character

I’m not the only one that kinda likes Luis, right? I find his mannerisms endearing to be honest, and that confrontation with the lady and Clayton stressed me out, too! I mean, ok, don’t get me wrong, stalking people no matter what other words you use to describe it is creepy and gross and bad, and as a creepy unfiction series the writing and acting and stakes leave a lot to be desired, I just like Luis! Like, if he didn’t stalk people I think I’d wanna be his friend.
