G'day guys, today we are reacting to new music from Nightwish Shoemaker. This was such a great song with many layers. I loved Floor's and Troy's voice in this and Floor's voice and the end was epic.

This whole album is such a musical masterpiece. Calling Nightwish "symphonic metal" does not do them justice anymore. The music by Nightwish truly is musica franca.

This album is not a collection of songs, they are individual pieces of art. Since I recieved my copy, I've listened to both CDs quite a few times. Shoemaker is one of the most wonderful things I've ever heard. The music, Floor and Troy's voices and the harmonies... And the Soprano second half get me all teary eyes. Knowing what the piece is about makes it even more so. Just outstanding A+++.

This isn't Nightwish?????? Are you kidding me? I'm a loooongtime fan of Nightwish. This is DEFINITELY what I expect from them! Its original, orchestral, headbanging, lyrical, well integrated music and intelligent lyrics, all smoothed over some truly excellent bass lines, with celtic/gaellic influnces and storytelling about all aspects of life, at its finest! This is most definitely NIGHTWISH!!!!! I LUUUUUUUUV it!!!!!!!! I see the full album listed in my cue......if you'll excuse me...… its time to grab my bodhran and ROOOOOOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think this song is like, no, totally a perfect "memorial" song for Shoemaker. The dramatic part is like describing his life of dedication and his unfulfilled dream, while the more calm part with the troy-lead vocal is when, like when he was gone, and people told him "We will help you realize your dream, rest in peace". The opera part is the farewell to everyone with Shoemaker when the ship takes him to outer space. Many people praised the song mainly for the Floor's excellent opera performance, I myself thought a lot about the wonderful arrangement of the song. All parts are carefully calculated on its impact, and the result is intense listening. The great opera part that touched us is the result of the emotions accumulated in the whole song. Many people don't like when Troy leads in the calm part, maybe just because they love the Floor so much, while it's a more sensible choice. Troy's quiet, calm and sweet voice fits in with the idea of "rest in peace", while dramatically increasing the drama's melody, in opposition to the parts lead by Floor. Like the soaring voice of Floor, which is greatly enhanced with the deep and warm parts of Troy and Marko. This is a great song, with all its components, showing the genius of everyone who made it. Sorry for my English

Loved your reaction and your thoughts about the song, the lyrics and the meaning of it. It might sound rude to a lot of people, and sorry but not sorry, but I've always believed that groups like Nightwish are not for dumb or lazy people, they have plastic pop for it. If they just care about something catchy and rythmic to dance along to or to kinda sing or shout along with easily, then sorry but Nightwish is not for you. They're the kind of people who complain about lenghty songs, about long purely instrumental intros or middle parts, about the lyrics not being easy to follow or learn, etc etc. Nightwish is the type of band that, like you said, makes you think, makes you listen, to the music, to the lyrics, to the emotions in the voice, the change in dynamics, the meaning of lyrics and the story behind the song to truly get the full impact. Songs that you need to listen and pay attention to them not once or twice, but several times until the full meaning and impact settles. It's just amazing the genius of Tuomas and the sheer talent of the whole band to make his music come to life for us

I heard it two hours ago, unsuspecting it to be about *that* Shoemaker. Once I started reading the lyrics I was utterly floored and awed by the magnificent work, up to be brought almost to tears by the amount of densely packed beauty, respect, inspiration by his work... and what else than putting it in music? I'm rambling perhaps. I'm yet to find someone else commenting on the closing scene, how magnificent to plan it to be the aligned double set of Sun and Earth seen by his final resting place? All the while praising in latin? Beauty.

You're right - it IS such a great song! Nightwish has evolved to such a height from where they started as a band that I don't think you can classify them as in any particular genre. They are their own genre, and this song only proves it. Thanks for sharing your reaction to this masterpiece!

You, sir, is by far my favourite reactor, your skill and attention to lyrics and to interpret a song is second to none. This album is fantastic, the production is top notch and Tuomas is undoubtedly a genius who belongs with the classical composers. This song in particular is amazing and I'm so happy with Floors performance, the buildup with all the references to Shoemaker is mindblowing and the ending is extremely emotional. Even though I don't think any of the songs on the album are bad, I do have my favourites. Shoemaker, Pan, Endlessness and the entire 2nd disc are amazing.

What a band!!! Nothing compares to Nightwish! And how can Tuomas possible top this album?? This is total perfection in every form. And i've been a bit worried for this new album when i read it took him time to find inspiration! He's a genius, and that doesn't even cover it. With the rest of the band they bring his compositions to an unknown level. Such a dedication! I truly love your reactions. There are others that do nice, or make you laugh. But the way you dive into the songs, the meaning and the lyrics is just awesome. Giving me more insight and loving the songs more then i already did. This is Nightwish's best work to date imo. Loving disc two also. It's so beautiful. Thank you!!

Wow, thank you so much for this amazing reaction. I love how you grasped the essence of the song right at the beginning, and love to see your genuine appreciation for Nightwish's art, both of this song and as a whole. I really wish more people would do this. I mean, there's nothing wrong with different music tastes and especially with Human. :||: Nature. I totally get it's difficult for some people because Nightwish experiments a lot with their styles in this whole album, but the last things you're saying in this video right here just nailed it. No matter how different the music style might sound in some songs, they're STILL Nightwish, they're staying true to theirselves with those deep meanings and poetic and philosophic lyrics, etc...! What I also found really nice about this reaction of yours is that not only are we able to witness your joy of listening and thinking it through, but also can one learn a lot from your thoughts and knowledge of the song's background. Thanks a lot for that as well! Now I can't wait to seeing you react to the other songs of the album, especially 'Music' and 'Procession'. (The others as well) And I don't know if others told you this before, but try to go by the original order of the songs from now on, because the band themselves said several times it is recommended to follow the tracklist as it is for the best experience, and once you're doing this, you'll probably see how that makes sense! (By the way, I hope you're planning to do a reaction on the 'Nature' part as well??)

Its actually Tuomas wife, who speaks the verse.. Laudato Si Ad astra Means Prasise be to the stars Eugene Merle (Gene) Shoemaker (April 28, 1928 - July 18, 1997) was an American geologist and one of the founders of the field of planetary science. He co-discovered Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 with his wife Carolyn S. Shoemaker and David H. Levy. This comet hit Jupiter in July 1994: the impact was televised around the world. Shoemaker also studied terrestrial craters, such as Barringer Meteor Crater in Arizona, and was the first scientist to conclude that these craters were caused by meteor impacts. He was also the first director of the United States Geological Survey's Astrogeology Research Program. He was killed in a car accident while visiting an impact crater site in Australia. After his death, some of his ashes were carried to the Moon with the Lunar Prospector mission. This song is a great listen, especially with headphones, but also without, among the top song on new album, maybe even the masterpiece my rank of songs on Human Nature is like this at moment. PAN SHOEMAKER HOW IS THE HEART TRIBAL MUSIC PROCESSION NOISE HARVEST ENDLESSNESS ALL THE WORKS OF NATURE WHICH ADORE THE WORLD I actually also love Endlessness, its just i have to pick Floor´s beatyful voice in Procession for example over it, and the pipebag section in harvest is great, so well maybe it shoul be higher..lol

Actually I think it does have another meaning, Laudato SI means praise be to you, ad astra means to the stars (as a shoutout and how he was send to the stars (to the moon in fact) to honor his great wish to go to the moon as he was denied because of addison desease.

Laudato si' (English: Praise Be to You!) is the second encyclical of Pope Francis. The encyclical has the subtitle "on care for our common home". Ad Astra is Latin, meaning "to the stars". Quite an Ode to Eugene Shoemaker. Epic! The lady speaking was Tuomas' wife Johanna. Humanities search for the unknown. Human nature is curious to know the all. Great analysis my friend. I don't love all the songs on this record, but this one is absolutely brilliant on every level. Lyrically, musically, thematically, it's perfect, and I pick up on new things every time I listen to it. How about the little guitar harmonic at 3:43 over "the whole starmap of heavens"? Great reaction to a beautiful song. I heard that singing part from Troy is Shoemaker singing to us humanity on earth, And the scene in the video where the Asteroids, space debris etc, And the lyrics "We came here to be a waypoint to the far, on the stellar sea cut into little stars, Stars calling with the sound of a dreamlike dulcimer, We came here to stay with your guiding light. That is the asteroids, space debris etc singing to tell the story of the impressions (faces) they made when colliding with the moon, they left craters. Shoemaker also studied terrestrial craters, such as Barringer Meteor Crater in Arizona, and was the first scientist to conclude that these craters were caused by meteor impacts. So man when studying the moons craters and layout can see shoemaker .he is connected to us through his works study of craters and the fact he went to his home in the crater. The credit to Guylain prince AlsoThe hymn of St. Francis of Assisi that inspired Laudato Si' The Canticle of the Creatures, written by St. Francis of Assisi, is also known as the the Canticle of the Sun (in Italian “Cantico di frate Sole,” sometimes translated as “Canticle of Brother Sun”), or Laudes Creaturarum ("Praise of the Creatures").

I do not doubt that you already know but since you did not mention it "Laudato Si Ad Astra" is Latin for "All the glory to the stars". 😉

To the three people who disliked this video, absolute shame on you! This is surely Floor greatest moment since Greatest Show on Earth and Ghost Love Score, just when you think you have heard her best she goes and does this..I'm not gonna live much longer if she keeps doing this to my feels!

Maybe they dislike the reaction; it can't be the video of Nightwish? Anyway nothing wrong with this reaction in my opinion. Thank U.

@@dirk2267 Agreed. but if they dislike the reaction they could be more helpful and say why so he can either take it onboard or duly ignore it. The 1.2k likes for 6 dislikes, speaks volumes in itself though.

@@GregTheReaper Strange, I did not dislike this reaction at all or dislike the track. BTW if someone dislike a reaction, it doesn't mean he/she dislikes the song??

Just to add a little more depth to an already magnificently deep song, Laudato Si refers to a Pope Francis speech in which he advocates for mankind to care for our Earth, translated means something along the lines of “our common home”. Ad Astra literally interpreted means “”to the stars”. It’s a great lyrical assembly with just four words. Thoumas is a true poet.
