Yes, yes, I realize this is the instrumental. I play piano, so, in my defense, if necessary, I know just a little bit about music. However, there is a version with Floor doing the vocal, on "Showtime, Storytime," from WOA 2013, and for this was my reference. And so pleased I could offer a bit of humor @Matthew Brown. That's always a rewarding realization.

A música tem mais de 10 minutos, mas quando acaba você quer que nunca tivesse terminado. A primeira vez em que me apaixonei por esta obra angelical, lembro que a escutei umas 5 vezes consecutivas, e terminei de ouvir o álbum com muito pesar, por ter que parar de repeti-la. To think that we would have the instrumentals for ALL the songs on "Once", had Tarja not objected to it so strongly...! It saddens me that, in her view, it's "erasing her part", even though that's just not possible. How does an instrumental version ruin her vision for what the album stands for, when it gives us an amazing window into how the songs were arranged, etc? There are many special moments I'd love to hear with more clarity (one of them being the pads at 2:45 !!!) and, is it now too late to hope for instrumentals of "Fantasmic", "Getsemane", "Deep Silent Complete", "Beauty Of The Beast" and all the great ones, knowing that she will feel this way? :'(

Agree! I love Tarja, don't get me wrong. I have learned a lot from her as a singer and there is no denying that she is incredibly dedicated and talented. But she was not the only member of the band! I love it when bands release instrumentals - it's one of my favorite things that Epica, Nightwish, and Blackbriar do, among others. So much work and care goes into every part of the songs, but much of it gets lost when you put everything together because we focus on vocal lines and melodies. I actually like hearing the multitracks sometimes because you catch things that you would have missed even in a complete instrumental. I have written songs and sometimes interesting things get buried or ignored despite your best efforts. Hey, I just hope that the instrumental bonus disc trend continues in this genre. I will be buying every time.

I can see why in a way, though. For every fan who adulates the vocalist of a band, there's others who don't consider them "real" musicians because they don't play an instrument, especially female singers. They're either too much the main focus or disrespected, doesn't seem to be a middle ground. It does undermine the genius behind the composition.

MusicMakesYouBraver oh I forgot to say, if you listened to the current versions, aka Floor's version, the backing chorus is changed to reflect the _'Treachery Of Tarja'_ as much as this version says _'Don't Betray Us, Tarja!'_ , the current version goes as such: *"My fall, will be for you. My love, will be in you. You were the one to cut me, so I will bleed forever!"* The tell, in versions you cannot hear the backing choir is in the pauses. Tarja's version has two pauses where current version has one. If you want link to a clear recording with re-recorded backing vocals, I can provide you with it. Have fun!

Kevin Tan That's just not true. They didn't change the backing chorus. The first two times it sings "if you be the one to cut me I'll bleed forever" and at the end of the song it changes to "you were the one to cut me so I'll bleed forever". But that's the way it's always been, they didn't change it to "reflect the Treachery Of Tarja", you simply made that up.

I would say: Tuomas is the alchemist inventing the spells, Floor is the sorceress casting them. With the help of the other instrumentalists. But the music of Tuomas as high emphasis on lyrics and vocals. Enforced by genius instrumental composition and skilled live playing.
