Point no. 2: Just get started. This is something I agreed has helped me a lot lately. Especially when getting started with writing essays or assignments, I tend to have writer's block where I've got so much things to write but I just got stucked with the first step. So a good tip that I've accumulated over time is that, just get started even if it's some bullshit. Sometimes I even start my work with "God damn I'm writing this essay because I had no choice and I had to start somewhere........" And it does helped me a lot in getting the momentum going, instead of overthinking on how and where to start it.

I trick my brain with the following trick: If I really don't want to do something, pull up my phone, put it on my kitchen counter and I set a timer for 10 minutes. Then, I try to get as much done as possible and after those 10 minutes I allow myself to chill again. This worked WONDERS for me because I try to get more done in 10 min than ever before and don't check my phone.

Man, I can actually relate very well to the part of Just get started. When you are in a rut and not have any important work done at all, it really exhausts the mind. Just getting started is a real game changer, just start doing it, will automatically make us motivate to do it next time and this loop continues off like inertia in physics. Motivation is a temporary and it may work for some people but when you discipline yourself and just do it, motivation automatically starts following you.

When you said that a way to overcome resistance is to "lean into it" or to confront and push through it, it reminds me of how I deal with a lot of my problems. I think it's also a good way to deal with problems too- to confront them and push through them. Back then I may have ignored or avoided the fear or the problem, whether that would be being afraid of the dark (as a child and sometimes still now lol), a big assignment coming up, a personal challenge I had to face (like talking with people or making amends), or etc.; I could've ignored it and distracted myself from it, but I knew that by doing so I would never fix anything or help overcome the fear- I was just delaying it. I knew that the only way to truly overcome my fears and setbacks was to confront and face them, not only physically, but mentally. For example, with my fear of social interaction- of making mistakes, looking stupid or just being awkward- a lot of times I could've just avoided it completely (by avoiding people, etc.), but that would never help me overcome my fear of "stage fright" or overcome my not-so-good social skills- I wouldn't grow or change. How I dealt with it (and other challenges) was to pretty much stare the fear in the face: I would go out of my comfort zone to talk to people, I would get rid of the negative thoughts and fears in my mind of "what if's" and of failure and I would just have an open mind (and yes even though not all situations/outcomes were a success, I got better and less afraid over time). Instead of being afraid and shy, I chose to have courage and to be open to conversation, I would try my best to be someone who could carry a conversation and to be someone you could talk to; instead of avoiding people all the time, sometimes I would put myself out there and talk to someone (to get to know their name, etc.) and to always be open to conversation if someone else came to me. I have done this with other problems/fears I deal with, like with the fear of failing. Yes I could fail, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't ever give whatever I'm doing it a try, or get back up when I do- a lot of times I will fail: but that's nothing to fear, but instead something to use it to build off of and to grow. This approach may not work with all things, but it definitely has worked in some cases for me.

Thank you so much for this video. I'm about to go off to college, and after receiving a lot of college rejections, I detached from my daily routine when I was already procastinating a lot. After I recovered, I kept telling myself "I will practice piano tomorrow. I will wait for the right time. I will go out and exercise when I'm feeling fine." Especially when my dad makes me do stuff, I just blame it on him for eating my time away, so that I don't have any time to do anything for myself. WHile sometimes, this is true when the task he assigns takes up to hours, but sometimes it's just an hour. It never occurred to me that I should just do it despite all these distractions, so right now, I'm just gonna go practice some piano. I can't believe how I put it down for so long. I used to be so disciplined on practicing it.
