My boyfriend and I found a kitten on the side of the road about 3 or 4 months ago. It was cold and rainy and from the way she acted when we found her, I don't think she thought she was going to survive more than a few hours. She was quiet the entire drive home, she barely moved, and it was difficult to get her to eat or drink anything that night. I really thought she'd be dead in the morning. She had a bad mass in her eye that looked like she had some dirt caught in the eyelid for a while that managed to fester. I gave her a good bath and managed to get her eye mostly cleaned out, at least so she could close it. She fought a little bit when I was giving her a bath, but I really think it felt good to her. I was about 40f outside or so. It at least managed to warm her up some. I managed to get some water in her with a little kitten feed bottle and gave her some food. She only ate about 1 or 2 bits before falling asleep. We took her to the vet the next morning and they said she looked around 4 to 6 weeks old. They also said that it looked like someone chucked her out of a car, which broke my heart. She had tiny lacerations on her head from what I have to assume is her scraping it on the pavement as someone threw her. That's also where I assume she got something stuck in her eye. Other than that, though, no major injuries. We got her all her shots and now, a few months later, she is the most playful little thing I have ever seen! I don't have any other kittens, and I admit that taking care a one has been a learning curve for me. But, I do have a puppy that just absolutely adores her! They play together so nicely! I was a bit worried initially that he'd punch her to hard (he's a boxer, they tend to do that) but he is just so gentle with her! And now this kitten that I was so worried would be dead in a box when I woke up a few months ago is running around my living room jumping on my dogs face every chance she gets! She's just so full of life and energy that I can't imagine anyone just abandoning her on the side of a road. I've gone through my mind so many times what would have happened if we didn't see her, and it just breaks my heart.

To be honest, I think her « meow » is so cute I don’t get tired of hearing it 🥰 And in my two cats’ case, they actually got louder when growing up : one is very savage and I didn’t hear her meow before at least six months after her arrival (I thought she was mute) and now, she meows (only) when she needs something from us or is annoyed at us ; and the other one is such a chatterbox, we can’t have a meal without hearing him (sometimes he meows even through I don know what he wants) 😆

She makes adorable hunting noises, snores, grunts like a piggy, screams at birds and bugs on the windows, but when she meows it’s the tiniest little squeak 😄. My other kitten, Xena, same age, barely meows, she communicates with her paws. She pushes me when she wants to play fetch or wants food, treats she just brings me the bag of which variety she is hungry for, and she also pets my hair when she is really trying to get my attention to throw her toy to play fetch, which she would play all day if you let her, lol. The other plays fetch only when Xena is sleeping because Xena gets jealous and will smack Prissy’s head for playing with me, lol. They’re adorable. My Boo Boo, who I lost last March. She was almost 17, she communicated completely with me. I would just ask her what she needed and she would meow at the one she wanted. Miss her so much. I love my 2 new ones and they’re completely spoiled already, but Boo will always have that special place in my heart. Cats have such amazing personalities given enough attention. They can do amazing things. Xena can also catch like a human nearly anything I toss to her. She also can go up and down a slide like it’s nothing, as if she doesn’t realize she shouldn’t be able to do it. Prissy can’t because she has floofy paw pads being a longhair variety. She stays at the bottom and waits for Xena to send her toys down 😂. The slide is attached to a top bunk in a spare bedroom.

I switched my cats to raw ground turkey instead of cat food, and boy what a difference it made in their healthy. Raw meat is their natural diet (yes, it should be raw...ever see a cat roast a mouse in the wild before eating it?!?)

I was coming to comment on the belly & potential worms, too. We rescued a kitten (who is now an old cat!), and he had worms at first. Those little segments coming out their bum aren't so cute. And the worms take nutrition away from the kitten. Hope you get her checked soon. She's adorable!

That cute butt-wiggle and crying when he handles her rear quarters may indicate she has pain from injury eg pulled tendon or ligament - this happens frequently the children play tug of war with kittens - get it checked out by vet - may need steroid injections for 3 weeks to get I to settle if she has injured hip
