He did write the drums to quite a bit of their biggest hits. However the Grohl fanboys will never admit it. Nirvana would have been just as big. Kurt sailed the ship. His singing and song writing is what made that ship take off. Not Grohl. Yeah Grohl was great and added a new live aspect cause he beat the drums so loud which fit with Kurts loud ass amps/vocals. But I doubt Channing would have held them back by any means.

Hard to play with a small punk rock club immediacy when you’ve done that thousands of times for years and now you’re playing to 20 thousand people and millions watching every step who don’t care about your music. When Kurt realized he could never go back to when it mattered like he wanted to, his life was over. Clearly.
@cemeteryindustrialcomplex3486

Kurt's so much tighter and better sounding in this era, despite playing more complex songs and solos (by Nirvana standards) and moving around a whole lot more on stage and using crap gear. Nevermind songs are Ramones-level simple but he still flubbed notes all the time and his live tone was pretty meh most of the time. Don't know if it was drugs or pressure or what, but it is like the opposite of what you'd expect.

@dylangajdosik964 : he was also being abused any being beaten down by his psychopathic, materialistic, power hungry wife Courtney Love. She got all sorts of people into heroin, including her bassist from Hole, Kristin Phaff. Yes, Kurt was using and was attempting to quit, but that's only part of the story. People need to research present information on the matter of his death before assuming "suicide" theory presented due to CL's planted stories with the mainstream media, like MTV & Rolling Stone. If his divorce would have had a chance to proceed, I'm sure he would have been able to kick drugs. He wanted to live.

Chad allows Nirvana to breathe more and its a better style for Cobain IMO. Kurt physically showed frustration at Dave during most In Utero gigs that were filmed. Notably, 11-18-93, 12-13-93 rehearsals. And 11-9-93 playing too slow..among other gigs Ive seen later on where Kurt shakes head, flays arms about etc a few times each show. Id say he was having an issue with Dave but Im not sure how much it was personal as it was musical, and definately only got these vibes from Kurt after In Utero release, this was around the time Kurt changed $ to 75% royalties and 100% lyrics. There was definately something going on with those two.
@waxoftriple9
@waxoftriple9 9 жыл бұрын
Kurt has always praised Dave's drum work but I Think that Kurt's downward spiral was getting worse around In Utero and beyond till he died. If I remember correctly, Courtney talked Kurt into changing the royalties which was fine, Kurt was turning more and more into what he despised in the rock world, basically an Axl Rose.
@amixofeverything
@amixofeverything 9 жыл бұрын
I thought so too. He was a pretty solid drummer. I think Endino talked about this. It wasn't that he wasn't a good drummer, but Bleach was a totally different record from Nevermind, and so drumming styles were different. But hearing a lot of the Nevermind demos that had Channing, they were still really good. A lot more raw.
@Ratelzwatel

I find the drumming on 'In Utero' rather boring, not very creative. Mostly just banging. Just compare it with 'Bleach' and 'Incesticide'.
@captainwalter
@captainwalter 6 жыл бұрын
I agree, and a lot of the songs that Dave played which had more compelling drums were formed in the chad era even if Dave’s the one who played them on the records and live more. Dave was a decision to reach a wider audience but eventually cause a creative void, even if he was out of this world technically and had a good backing voice. I’d say probably made Kurt feel like a sell out for a careerist move vs creative.

yes...but Kurt allowed Marigold on the record...only track not written and sung by Kurt....I think Chris was close when he mentioned that cunt who had him killed..the succubus Courtney. She got so deep in his head, he was willing to throw away the thing he dreamed about. Just look at his journals that were published from when he was young...thats ALL he thought about: making it big. Illuminating footage is in that lie but fascinating home video shit Montage of Heck doc....Kurt's about to go on the road, and the succubus is all "youre just gonna leave me for one of those 'pretty girls'", making him feel guilty for doing what he wanted to do most his life. Ad drugs and her giving him the nastiest fuck his minorly experienced dick had and there ya go.I do agree however, pre-nevermind Nirvana is the SHIT. TOTALLY different band. Fucking riffs are brutal, Kurt even gets in a few killer solos....I know Kurt said he hated Bleach somewhere later on...but fuck that. Bleach and the rest not on it on like Incesticide are for the most part, the best Nirvana songs in the catalog. On a different topic, can you explain in a little more detail what the royalty/publishing rate change was and from?

For Me, Chad had a more underground style to his drumming, rooted in garage or punk bands, which fitted the early Nirvana well. He has his own style, which is more feel than technical. But with Dave, he pounded the drums more loudly, and had all that experience with playing with Scream. So to many he sounds better.

Oni64 I'm really agree with you... The Nirvana was more introspective, in the first album... they needed a different sound. Not so aggressive and explosive like in Nevermind or In Utero. The sound of Bleach is so grunge, and the sound of Incisticide is so punk, acid... songs are more simple and linear... the construction is really different; Bleach + Incisticide makes me think of the 2d and Nevermind + In Utero makes me think of 3d :-) Really cold sounds in Nevermind and really hot sounds in In Utero... I love Nirvana because they are Always different.

I wish Nirvana got back together and stayed forever as a band. In an alternate universe. In another multidimensional level. Grunge is not dead. Nirvana is alive and fully 100% active. KURT COBAIN, Krist, Dave, fans. But y'all are talented young musicians in your generation. May y'all continue to play more future songs. 🎸🤘🏼

Kurt cobain died at the age of 27 which made him in the “27 club” there is 27 dislikes does that mean he only has an average of 1 dislike every year he was alive which means he was happier than a lot of people so why did he kill himself? Lol 😝 p.s. this is a joke and it’s not supposed to be rude and ik that Courtney love murdered Kurt

NirvanaFan I can agree with you to a certain degree. However his drumming for In Bloom smart sessions is repetitive and boring which makes me believe that he either wasnt trying at all or he just wasn’t that much of a drummer which was what i prior to that thought, now that you told me I believe he just didn’t like drums and wanted more spotlight

@@deadroses19 the only difference between chad's and dave's drum part is that dave doubled up the kick drum in the verse

@Kevlar i couldnt agree more. I am in a band too and our drummer just seems out of place. Me and the bass player, we know what we’re doing but he’s just… off. It’s really hard to tune a band perfectly. It’s almost as like finding a soul mate. People are different from one another, and the only reason I think me and the bass player as well as kurt and krist got along well is because they grew together. Well, dave though…. That was pure luck I think.
@deadroses19
@deadroses19 3 жыл бұрын
@Kevlar I am glad you found yourself a soulmate bandmate! Your story resembles mine too. I formed a band with the bass player I mentioned, when we were kids, and we shaped our tastes together; Nirvana being the prime band we fell in love with. He's one of my best friends, and the drummer that was a douche. He never had the passion for it as we did and besides that we had personality issues (the dude was literally a sociopath lmao). Early this year, he left and we brought a friend of ours to learn to play drums; and that's the story i told above. It's really hard to find dedicated musicians as you said; I'm hopeful someday we will find a decent drummer and we will evolve! I love to play the drums and I even considered saying fuck it and becoming myself the drummer but, my passion, really is singing so, it's that. But yes I do have a band of my own!, do you?

Fantastic show! The sound quality is really good too for a show from this period. I think I have successfully collected all of the currently available SBD recordings from the Bleach era, including the newer leaked Manchester with Even In His Youth. Now I am trying to collect as much of the pro ir good quality video. Thanks for this upload. Cheers!
