It might always a mistake to make a procurement manager the leader of an automotive company. 20 years ago General Motors and Volkswagen fought over a procurement leader, and that procurement leader was a bit of a megalomaniac. Later the procurement trend continued with Ghosn at Renault and Nissan

Was a Nissan fanboy most of my life, restored a 260Z, loved my Z32 and my G37X is one of my favorite cars to have owned. Nissan's downfall can be tied almost exclusively to their early implementation of CVT. CVTs as a whole are terrible, yet Honda, Toyota and VW/Audi has figured out how to produce one that will last more than 100,000 miles. I work in the automotive industry and if Mazda can build affordable cars with longevity while using a traditional five or six speed automatic, there's no excuse for Nissan. Nissan could redeem itself immediately if they dropped CVTs.

My wife drove a loaded 2013 Nissan Rogue LE AWD for 98,000 miles. I changed the CVT fluid and used synthetic Valvoline at 30k, 60k and 90k. I also did all of the oil changes, axle fluids, brake fluid, spark plugs, brake pads, coolant change, belt and shocks. Added a tow hitch+wiring and pulled a 5x8 utility trailer with the vehicle during the time in which I didn't have a truck. Sold the vehicle at 98k. Not one single mechanical issue in 8 years of ownership. The real leather seats still looked like new. Wife weighs just over 100 pounds. Change the CVT fluid. Most people probably don't do that.

I think Nissan's core issue is that Hyundai/Kia ousted them from their perch. This happened because Hyundai was improving model designs and quality very quickly, while Nissan was slowly losing its way with stale models, uninspired powertrains, and very bland marketing. And they should have either invested in Infiniti or cut it loose many years ago. It's too late to try to save it now.

The only good vehicle they make is the Frontier. The build quality of the rest of their line is pretty much junk due to the abysmal CVT transmission they put in them...plus prices for most of their line are ridiculously high for what you get. Quality was much higher when they were Datsun. People are fed up with paying premium prices for shit quality regardless of brand..

One problem with the transmissions was the plastic cooling pipe in the transmission would crack and allow anti-freeze into the transmission. The anti freeze would breakdown the transmission fluid and destroy the transmission. Failure of a $4 part causing $1,000's in repairs. And they never changed the design. A Nissan is not a Toyota.

You also failed to mention Nissan's demographic customer base and subprime customer base ! They have buried their customers with financing from Santander, Westlake and Credit Acceptance... when people want a new car, barley make $2-3k a month, have a sub 600 fico score - most likely, they're driving a Nissan !! errr the problem is that you have to analyze it like a company. Whilst the debt is quite a bit short term debt isn't a problem and the book value of the company is 4 times the market cap. This means that it is pretty much impossible for them to go bankrupt almost regardless of how stupid they are as they can basically firesale everything they have and still survice.

They should partner up with Subaru and use their platforms and ditch their own FWD platform and focus on their RWD platform for Infiniti and some Nissan models like the Pathfinder and a 2+2 seater Z, and partner with Isuzu for commercial trucking, Kawasaki for their motorcycle and steel business. Mitsubishi should be sold to Honda as an entry-level brand on the Honda FWD platform, and Honda should become a premium SH-AWD brand with some body on frame models like the Passport and Ridgeline that can shared with some Mitsubishi suvs. Acura should switch to an RWD platform to compete with Genesis.

Great channel and video. Note you don't need to say "over exaggerate" - just "exaggerate" is enough. Just like the new habit of saying "double check" is redundant and annoying - just "check" is sufficient. These new empty phrase doublings are tautologies - meaningless and circular. Love and peace!

JACO transmissions are junk. Hopefully, now that Renault has mostly sold off their stake in the company, Nissan will return to the quality of the '90s.

For me boring and old is part of the appeal of Nissan. Other brands are software on wheels. Nissans feel ... predictable. Yes the JATCO CVTs were atrocious and it took Nissan far too long to do anything about them. If you avoid those CVTs, do the servicing, and don't overstress the vehicles, Nissans are fine. Bad by Japanese standards maybe, but good by European or American.

I love my new Nissan. It runs great with the $300 nitrogen in the tires and I only have 7 years of payments at $799 a month. Life is good in Bidense America. And that CVT transmission- It's as good as Kamalas laugh.

Sorry Aubrey but there is really nothing new that you've reported in this video. All of this has been widely known for a long time. Maybe you can follow up with something more insightful about who may be a Nissan suitor for a merger.
