Dealer tech here, so I have a few says on this. 1) Thank you for a very detailed review 2) Transfer case seal oil leak is pretty common on this T33 generation, I believe it's due to improper installation. We have a bulletin for it. 3) These stake castle nuts are not fun to remove. If not being careful, you could damage the CV axle thread and will need to replace new CV axle. Nissan OEM CV axles are quite expensive. I actually prefer the cotter pin castle nut better. 4) We see less CVT problems than before (still, but less), so I believe Jatco made some improvements on their CVTs. 5) The older CVTs that use CVT fluid NS-2, have transmission dipstick. For the newer CVTs that use NS-3, there is no more transmission dipstick. There is still a tube with a "fake" dipstick so you can fill up CVT fluid from the top, but using a scanner to measure fluid temperature while draining overflowing fluid is the correct way to measure fluid level. According to Nissan, this way of measurement is more accurate than the traditional way with a dipstick. It seems to be common among manufacturers (Toyota does the same thing with their AT). 6) Nissan has been using one-piece style lower control arm for years, so either bushing cracks or ball joint gets loose, the whole control arm needs to be replaced. 6) The 3-cyl turbo engine has a plastic engine oil pan (why Nissan??)

Nissan burned me bad a 2016 Maxima and a 2015 Murano. The Murano puked all its fluid out at 900 miles. From the factory someone used what looked like plier teeth to install the line from the Jatco to the radiator. It split and the dealer made me pay 450 for just a refill. With 950 miles, they said it was rodent damage. My Maxima made it to 90k and hail (luckily) took that car out. As the CVT was on its way out. The Murano I limped 1800 miles for a vacation to California and back to Colorado. Thankfully when it starting bucking at 52k we traded for a 4Runner (new). So now we have 2 new 4Runners, and I will never buy another Nissan. 😂

Hey maybe you know if in the latest 2023 turbo only models, if the CVT is still made by Jatco? Have they made improvement. I am curious about a Rogue. If Nissan would just split from Renault, find some great engineers, and start their own. Their last CEO cheaped out it seems, and now this is all happening.

@@pnutbuttajellee1394 I do believe that the new generation Rogue's CVT is still made by Jatco. Like I said, we see less and less CVT problems than before, so I assume Jatco did some improvements on their CVTs. Time will tell if the newer gen is getting better or not.

On electrical side of this car the mess is not smaller: you can have wires which leave front side, go to back to be connected there and literally go back to front to be hooked to some modules. You may find some modules placed next to trunk which don't have any sensors and which are connected to BCM, ECM located in front. Nice engineering, Nissan !

We have used these models at my work for four years now. This is the first year they had a 3 cylinder turbo engine. The go kart style transmissions get you good gas mileage. I got 44 mpg driving from Atlanta to Griffin GA last night, primarily on the main highways. Good gas mileage. We fold down the rear seats. The covers pop off on the backs of the seats with our high impact use. An ordinary driver might never have the issue with the rear seat 💺 covering coming off, but overall, they are cheaply made. The stereo is fine, has android and apple CarPlay. The cars engines and drivetrains have basically changed almost every year, but the body style is the same as almost ten years ago with minor changes. If you can get a deal on a new one, I’d say they hold up to normal usage. We did have one with an engine that failed on the first day using it. It was an engine out/swap to get it fixed. Like I said if you can get one for less than a Mazda, Toyota or Honda of similar size and build you may want to take a chance. Buyer beware, they are cheap, but reasonably durable. I’ve never had a Honda engine fail. My best friend buys only Toyota, and my third friend has a Rogue. She doesn’t know anything about cars and always buys the worst cars. I’d buy any car beside the ones she picks out. Hope it helps if you’re wondering about Rogues. This has been a very honest appraisal of my experience.

Did you fill the tank before and after the trip? I do not believe you got 44 mpg in a gas crossover. My Camry hybrid likes to claim I'm getting 54 mpg on a highway trip sometimes, but it's always 43 mpg at the pump.

10:06 That is not the fill plug for the transfer case. That is the magnetic check plug, but not the fill plug. The fill plug is actually on the opposite side higher up and is a hex bolt. If you were to fill from this magnet bolt, you would only get half a quart in there, which is nowhere near enough. I just did one of these for a friend and his mechanic made the mistake of thinking that was the fill plug and it was severely under-filled.

I bought a 2017 Rogue in 2019. Worked fine for 6-8 months. I did the drain and fill on the CVT at 30,000 which was a mild pain in the ass with no dip stick but not horrible. Then spent an exorbitant amount of time at the dealership over the next 6 months getting warranty work on the front end because of a metallic clunk. They essentially rebuilt the front end and it still made noise ohh and I had to do a door lock actuator but because it’s Nissan you can’t just buy the actual actuator and pop it in like a normal car you’ve got to get a whole assembly which was stupidly expensive so warrantied it for that. I decided to sell it to the dealership for a profit during COVID value surge since I didn’t need a second car with us being WFH and having a motorcycle to use if my wife needed the truck. Was never happier to see a vehicle leave my life. Did not want to own that thing without a warranty. Didn’t recall it being horrible to work on.

Speaking of waiting for a wife, a guy I knew had a can of tutrtle wax that he kept in his car so when his wife was shopping he would get out and wax his car. The punch line is that the car would be in various stages of waxing as he drove it.

I take it a 2023 Honda civic 1.5T is much more reliable than this? Same with the Honda crv?
@tails300
@tails300 Жыл бұрын
The 1.5T has problems with head gaskets. If you’re buying a Civic get the 2.0L (or the upcoming 2.0L hybrid). For the CRV, the same 2.0L hybrid system is your friend.

@@tails300 too late, but I'm definitely assuming the civic even with the 1.5t will long outlive the Nissan rogue

In Europe it is called X-trail but comes with 1.6 petrol engine or 1.5 l diesel and a manual gearbox or a CVT automatic . Its smaller brother is called Qashqai with. 1.2 petrol,1.6 or 1.5 diesel with a manual gearbox or CVT.I own a Qashqai 1.5 diesel and is a nice car and is a top seller in Europe .

Nissan quality looks so horrible, 2 years old and its already rusting and leaking oil. A 15 year old Honda is better than a brand new Nissan !

You continue living in the past with the CVT and Turbo comments and it just take away your credibility… Get us facts and numbers, not just exaggeration and boring comedy. (I had Nissan Turbo with the CVT. Zero problems. Know if at least another 5, 6 Nissans with CVTs. No issues. ).
