I have been running a vietnam Alice web gear since 1979 I just now set up a lcv and have U.A.S.F. CHEST RIG. with all the hydration and pouches. In the dolled rolling hills in California I wear desert tiger strip then with my ACU & my ABU vest or harness I blend in perfectly with the gold grass and sage manzanita and scub oaks perfectly. Living behind enemy lines here in California it can sometimes be hard to find new traing space. My old vietnam web set up is almost the same as your jungle kit. Thanks for sharing this is more important than ever especially for people just waking up.

@@protectpersevere2030 honestly, both have their place. I love the nixieworks by itself, but I also can imagine the need for more capacity in the form of a ruck, which integrates better with the velocity. I’m keeping both and building them out as separate systems.

Great review man, this in ranger green looks like I could use it hiking locally in our southern suburbia parks without looking too "tactical". Throw a hiking patch on the back and I'll blend right in. Also the buttpack would make a great seat for carrying my toddler on a day hike. Like overt tactical stuff, but love tactical under the radar multi use gear.

People often talk about how this rig shines in a hot and humid environment. I 100% agree with that, but I also really like this rig (theoretically) as a winter kit. Where I live it gets down to -40 in the winter and that large buttpack would do wonders holding emergency lifesaving layers and equipment. Winter patrol on snowshoe….. guess I need to see if I can get an alpine camo rig.

We used to put can goods inside our spare socks. MREs suck. You can do hammocks really tactical. Keep it low. They make great fueld chairs. Preface: a hammock is a piece of med kit. It can be used as a stretcher. Also, for a heat casualty, strip him naked, put him in a hammock, soak him and the hammock... then gently rock the hammock. It's instant jungle AC. 1) try sleeping in a dug in fighting position without one. Try sleeping in the back of a 2-1/2 ton as its moving without one. In the desert... string it up between vehicles. 2) Tics, chiggers, snakes, and other creepy crawlies will degrade your health in a short time. Getting up off the ground... even 6" is enough to keep you healthy. We used to use paracord diy extenders to lower the Alice bekt below the kidney pad on the Alice Ruck. That system sucked. We preferred small Made in Korea Alice packs with no frame.

Should use some stripped mre’s so you don’t have to start a fire and cook food. Fires are super easy to spot. Also you’re right about not using a tarp and hammock in a non permissive environment. Honestly anything in that butt pack should be considered more emergency stuff for survival and evasion and you’d use a pack for anything extra for comfort and longer sustainment. I’d ditch the tarp and hammock and use a poncho and liner, 3 stripped mre’s and possibly a puffy jacket or some other easily compressed warming layer. Good video though!
@seanduncan33 Жыл бұрын
Also forgot to mention using a handgun in a chest holster like the kenai or some other one. That way you’re keeping it on you all the time and it can be tucked under your layers. If you get to a point you actually need a handgun you’ve done something seriously wrong and that gun better be well maintained and well protected from the elements to ensure there’s nothing wrong with it or the ammo in it. Just my 2 cents
@protectpersevere2030 Жыл бұрын
Stripped mres could work but I could also carry peanut butter and cliff bars. Mountain house is pretty light and i actually don’t need to make a fire to cook it. Just cold soak it like oatmeal. Or if i really needed it hot I can use an esbit stove which is almost invisible. Yah what I carry in the buttpack is very situation/threat dependent. If I’m just casually patrolling my community and the event isn’t red dawn level yet setting up a low hammock and tarp setup isn’t world ending. Also I can put it on the ground if necessary. If I was only out for 24hr I’d probably just take a poncho,food,water, bug spray and maybe a groundsheet to get away from fire ants lol.

The butt pack is too big. You're fighting rig should be lightweight. This system turns the butt pack into a ruck sack. There's a reason rucks have a quick release. You should be carrying all the "camping" gear in your ruck that you ditch when you have to run and gun.
@protectpersevere20302 жыл бұрын
Bruh U obviously didn’t listen to the intent of this rig or read the blog. This rig is a scalable platform for multi day foot patrolling and is made specifically to not drop essential mission or survival equipment. All that being said it’s still incredibly lightweight (sub 30lbs) and speed is mostly not being fat. Yes just a chest rig is faster by itself but good luck surviving more than a day in a hostile environment without your ruck, no ressuply, no back up, no air support, etc.
@Pug3512 жыл бұрын
@@protectpersevere2030 Anytiime you carry a rifle or are on Patrol you are at risk for contact. Anyone whose been to infantry school knows you dont fight with a ruck on. It's nothing to do with being fat. That right essentially has a medium ALICE hanging on your ass you now cant easily ditch. It's trying to fix a problem that doesnt exist and making it worse. There is a reason you see no one wearing those oversized Eagle Industries bupttpacks they made 15 years ago.
@protectpersevere20302 жыл бұрын
@@Pug351 Well man i respect your opinion and i agree on that but i don’t think you realize that this system is no where near being a ruck. It’s literally half the weight if not more than my med. or large alice and can’t carry a rucksack worth of weight for the points you mentioned. It’s supposed to be the bleeding edge of lightweight carrying capacity because a partisan/minuteman (whatever non military word) can’t afford to drop his belt kit. I can still carry a small ruck and chest rig on this setup if i needed to carry more or less if your dead set on only carrying a chest rig on contact. However a lot of mil dudes have belt kit setups (like the velocity systems jungle rig) that are around the same size and don’t see it as an issue. Regardless if you feel that way than rock on and keep training.
@sodajones25762 жыл бұрын
@@Pug351 In ideal circumstances with reliable support, you can afford to drop all your gear and go light. I definitely get that line of thinking. However, I'd say that's the exception rather than the rule. In AFG, we often left the wire on extended missions with the assumption that we couldn't rely on resupply and the determining factor of where we slepped that night depended on where we made contact with the enemy and how much progress we had made clearing an area. Not every situation can you rely on vehicles or movement to RTB. Now imagine circumstances where you don't have the world's most powerful military supporting you. Imagine a failed state situation or a civil war situation or even just civil unrest. Running out of simple things like water or injury/death due to exposure to the elements is just as likely to remove you from combat effective as actual combat.The US military had some amazing logistical support pieces in place for Iraq and AFG but as we are seeing in Ukraine or in many other conflicts across history such as the Vietnam war, sustainment is a serious issue and dropping your weight to go make a hit isn't always a realistic option.
