Such a shame Hypno-Disc never won a UK championship. They always ended up going out in such sad ways each series. Flipped by Chaos 2 this series, jammed wheel against Pussycat next series, utterly destroyed Bigger Brother but still lost due to being pitted in series 5, losing out 3rd place to Firestorm because their motors went in the same series, a failed disc against Tornado in series 6 plus failing to win anything in both Extremes. Such a sad record for such a beastly robot. 22 wins but 10 losses, many of which were down to bad luck, which is so sad. I'd like to have seen Hypno-Disc become champions at least once.

Also I think we *could* have gotten Hypno-Disc vs Razer in one of the extremes, as it was on the cards as a potential battle. At this point, there are two teams that really “get it” with destructive weapons (I’m not talking about flippers like Cassius, here). Razer’s team understands it doesn’t matter how fast an axe swings if it’ll bounce off a custard tart, so they went with slow, high pressure. Hypnodisc’s team understand that a 3,000 RPM cutting disc is useless if you’d feel safe stopping it with your Johnson, because it doesn’t have the torque to push through resistance. 600 RPM, and just a LOT of mass.

Probably my favourite heat final of all time (with S4's Pussycat vs Razer and S7's X-Terminator vs Tsunami closely behind), Hypno-Disc meeting its first ever adversary so the Roses had to use their tactics and strategy to win rather than sheer power. Nothing but respect for the Berserk 2 team for putting up such a good fight and admittedly getting unlucky with the arena spike, though Hypno-Disc helping it up again was nice, this debut episode as a whole perfectly showcased the personality of the Rose team - power, ingenuity and sportsmanship.

@cr100013 жыл бұрын
True that Berserk II was a pretty tough robot, though its axe was fairly feeble. HypnoDisc got spiked too, one could argue that it was more stable than Berserk which is why Berserk got flipped when HypnoDisc didn't. And also, Berserk would probably have remained immobile if Hypnodisc hadn't righted them. HypnoDisc *could* have lost through being flipped, but they didn't... So IMO they deserved their win.

I think part of this was because early on a lot of the robots were built with obstacles in mind (even the series 3 qualifiers was some sort of obstacle course/slalom) and didn't know the gauntlet/trials had been dropped until after they were built, so low ground clearances only really became common from series 4 onwards, whereas low ground clearance was the bane of robots like Angel of Death and Vector of Armageddon early on.

Probably didn't help that it drove over one of those BS spikes. Hypno Disc... What is there to say that numerous others haven't already? Oh, here's something! Shremechs weren't a common thing yet, they didn't know there would be so many flippers, by the time they put one in, flippers were strong enough to flip robots out of the arena. the final of this series was always going to be decided in about the first 30 seconds. All Chaos II needed was one good flip before they could get that flywheel up to speed, but at the same time it's armour was light and weak, so all hypno disc needed was one solid hit. Beserk's shell was not only strong, it was rounded - so it was the best robot in the heat to be able to glance off the blows of the early Hypnodisc blade. Combine that with the weapon and Hypnodisc finally had a battle on its hands! I remember first watching this as a kid and being like "They stopped the disc!" because given how Hypnodisc had performed in the previous fights that was MASSIVE. Suddenly the Rose family had to show off how good the robot was without being able to count 100% on their weapon, which was the main strength of it. :D

HypnoDisc's team really understood the physics of the flywheel by giving mass with speed to convert to kinetic energy to damage opponents. Then further improved in series 4 with blunter blades with more surface area for even larger energy transfer for striking and pulling thicker armor rather than slashing. The moment they upped the motors, the Roses could afford to increase the weight of the disc while further increasing the speed. Btw, RIP Ken Rose, the Dad of the HypnoDisc Team. I'd been in the audience for a few series of Robot Wars and there were some fights that were qualifiers to get onto the TV show. That meant that there were a bunch of robots that didn't qualify for the main show but were already in the pits and avaiable to do the side games. I don't know for sure, but that would be my guess :)

Did any1 else notice how the hypnodisc team is basically big nipper minus the meth?
@kinagrill3 жыл бұрын
Oh my... that Stealth was just way too slow and weak in it's flipper to be of use.... against anything else than Death Warmed Up XD The flipper should go from the top instead and push, rather than try to 'lift'. much less power needed and a lot more effect for minimal effort.

Who have the best robots?? Robot Wars or BattleBots ?? I would like to see Hypno-Disc VS Tombstone
@TheRoboteer8 жыл бұрын
Maxime F Tombstone is literally 10X more powerful than Hypno-Disc. A better comparison would be Tombstone vs Carbide, who are relatively evenly matched in terms of power

I would've preferred Hypnodisc VS Napalm.

In the past several UK mainstays like Razer, Panic Attack, Dantomkia, and Bigger Brother competed in Battlebots and were pretty mediocre. So in my opinion it is Battlebots that has the tougher, badder robots. I believe that the teams that compete in the US have bigger budgets than the UK ones so that makes a difference.

Threadoflength well razer went up against tazbot, and well, there was no way that razer would beat tazbot as itd be pretty difficult to hand craft a bot to completely control and destroy razer that isnt like tazbot.

Threadoflength well tombstone has a slight weight advantage, either way its just gonna be whos weapon breaks first (although ive seen carbides weapon have a failure point on its underside tombstone cant reach that, so theyre just gonna hit eachother until one of their weapons stops moving, which is the solution to spinners now, break their fist with your face and beat them in a shoving match)

why does stealth's james look more like a harry

Except for Hypnodisc, engineering and thus entertainment at its worst.

I think if today's judges were judging that heat final it would have been Hypno-disc out.

Not really, Beserk was immobilised by spike. HypnoDisc just helped them to get back

I love robot wars to bits, one of my favourite shows ever but this was on the history channel? Come on history, put actual history content on! Tbh these days the history channel still has non history related content but it sucks, at least robot wars was good.
