Growing up, the only classic sonic games I had access to were Sonic 1, 2, and 3 on the Wii virtual console. The last one was always my favorite, and even though I wasn't great at the games, I loved the first few levels I was able to get through. That theme song when Knuckles first appears holds a special place in my heart Awesome vid as always, can't wait for what's to come now that we've reached a pause point for the Sonic series!

It was pretty worth the wait, I'd say! Honestly it's amazing how well this game holds up despite its console generation. Not many games hold this honour; S3K and Majora's Mask to name another. As far as the music goes, I was one of those strange few who actually grew up with the PC port. So you could probably understand that the MJ originals just sounded... "off" to me the first time I've heard them. And admittedly even now they do sound a little out of place (though in Ice Cap's case it certainly plays into its favour, not so much for the other two for me though). I will say though, the MIDI music actually DID vary quite a lot depending on your computer's sound card (or something like that). The music could sound completely different between computers and the one that I grew up with, as far as I'm aware, isn't documented on KZbin, and it's a shame because it is leagues above and beyond what the most known ones are; I still faintly remember them. Angel Island Act 2's rendition was amazing, as were the Carnival Night themes. They didn't sound that much like the uploads that do exist on this site at all; basically no "MIDI butchering" whatsoever. Now I know this sounds like a silly playground rumour (and obviously I have no proof to what I am describing here) but I assure you I'm telling the truth, that there's potentially an entire S3K soundtrack that's largely undocumented, or at the very least unknown by practically everyone. My ramblings aside, great video, man! Looking forward to whatever content you're branching out with.

Decided to watch it all before commenting but you wanna know what Sonic 3 & Knuckles reminds me of? One of those 2-Part Tv Movies that airs splitted on debut but is aired together in reruns. Also for some reason Sonic 3K gives me a weird lonely feeling.

Also regarding the barrel of death from carnival night, it's because at no other time in the game do you control an obstacle like this, AND even if you hit up or down you can't immediately tell that you're controlling the barrel

Man, your thoughts on this game really made me realize how important this game was to me and still is. It really pushed the boundaries of storytelling and gaming, and imo was the first game I played that gave me a glimpse of how this medium could look as an art form. Intergrating the gameplay into the storytelling is the exact sweet spot of making video games a truly unique art form

Jun Senoue didn't do dick to the S3&K Origins music besides the new garbage Super theme, he just took some even earlier prototype versions of the non Michael Jackson tracks than what was leaked prior and Sega claimed these were "new versions". Ice Cap Act 2 is literally the exact same as what was leaked, and Act 1 is only slightly less developed than its equivalent. The tracks use an early Universal Voice Bank *only used by prototype S3&K tracks.* And above all else, they don't sound like Sonic 4, when Senoue is physically incapable of producing "classic" Sonic music that doesn't sound like Sonic 4, be it the actually new Super theme, Sonic 4, or Superstars.

Not only Sonic 3 AIR but Sonic 3 Complete as well. You forgot to mention Sonic Mega Collection/+ (GCN and PS2) and Sonic Classic Collection (NDS) which also have the MJ tracks.

Recently i played all cllasic Sonic games with my kids and i was looking for the best way to play sonic 3 & K and i tried both AIR and Complete and i like Complete more because of its more classic feel and better performance on my hardware.
