I have both the Tomir 1 and the Merrell Agility Peak 5. I used the AP5 for a 100miler and 2 100K's and loved them. But the upper has big holes in them after 460km. Midsole and outsole still fine. The Tomir 1 was a bit harsh for me to take on ultraraces but I do train in them. Glad to hear it now has the new midsole. So it might be my new ultrashoe instead of the AP5, which has a much too fragile upper.

Great video! I think the padding on the tongue is coming from the fact that the Kjerag has the tendency to cause lace bite when tightening it too much up. I also heard that in other reviews. And for me the Kjerag is the only shoe I have, which seems to tightening himself during running, instead of widening the lacing. So if at any area I over-tighten it, it will stay there and gave me already quite some pain on 20k+ trails. But I am really looking forwart to the Tomir 2.0, as it seems to check all the things I am not 100% happy with the Kjerag: cushioning, lace-bite and too short lugs for muddy trails.
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 4 ай бұрын
I've never had lace bite on the Kjerag, but I can definitely see where it happens. Also you description of how the Kjerag tightens it's self on a run is spot on. I do love the fit of that shoe! Given the offset lacing and the emphasis it puts lace tension on the ridge of the foot the padding is definitely for that. It works, it's just oddly implemented. The Tomir 2.0 compliments the Kjerag in so many ways. Excellent combo for basically any type of trail condition. You'll notice the grip in the Tomir 2.0 right away, especially ins soft and sloppy conditions.

Sounds like I need to upgrade my v1, as I think that is more of a hiking than running shoe. I’ve only really enjoyed the v1 on snowy winter trails. I’ve also read that the laces have been improved on v2, as I need to do three “knots” on the v1.
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 4 ай бұрын
this shoe went from a "trail tractor" to a "trail tank"...definitely and very apt train running (and hiker) now. Massive upgrade. The laces are good. A little finicky, but they don't come undone.

My big issue with the Tomir 2.0 is it felt like I could never get a great lockdown like the Kjerag. I think it's because of the offset lacing.
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 2 ай бұрын
I can see this. I had a great first the the asymmetrical offset lacing definitely could cause issues and pressure point on some feet.

Hey brother, cool review and good camera angles. Please tell me, is it nnormal that the shoes have very strong smell? I mean, maybe the rubber? Maybe the midsole? And are they waterproof by any chance? I plan on taking them to hiking/trail running trip in Dolomites and would like to know if its a good choice tho. I consider the Maafate 4s aswell. Cheers!
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 3 ай бұрын
Nnormal shoes do have a unique smell, especially these. Not rubber, more off gassing from bonding agents and materials. The upper isn't waterproof/resistant, though it does a decent job of resisting light moisture. These shoes were tested in the Alps, rather extensively, so will be right at home in the Dolomites.

Got one pair waiting in the box… Any thoughts or experience on water / humidity drainage ability? Living in HK and as a heavy sweater I was concerned the bucket/ deep bathtub design would be prone to keeping the water inside the shoe (the ortholite insole for sure will become a real sponge, but that can be swapped)
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 4 ай бұрын
I have found that the upper doesn't drain as well as a Matryx upper ANd does hold onto internal moisture (like what we get here in Asia). The Ortholite insole is a massive sponge as well. That being said, once my shoes are filled with sweat I've had no real issues other than the sloshing sound that you get with it. No lockdown issues or blistering.

I got the Tomir 1.0 about 6 months before the 2.0 came out and the first one is already built like a tank so it's going to be a while before I can upgrade, lol.

Ya, the Tomir 1.0 earned the name "the trail tractor", but the Tomir 2.0 really doubles down and earns the name "the trail tank"...both are great for different reasons.

My Norda 001s are UK 8.5 (US 9.5) and my Tomir 2.0s are UK 8 (US 8.5). The Tomir are still a longer fit than the 001s, but both fit similar in those sizes. Norda advises the opposite of Nnormal in that they say to size up half a size from your normal size for their shoes. Also their lasts are square in the forefoot. Nnormal says to go down half a size from your normal size and are very long lasts.

Is it somewhat wider than Kjerag in the toebox and upper forefoot?
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 3 ай бұрын
As far as width, no. If anything it is narrorwer due to how little give the upper has compared to the matryx upper on the Kjerag. The toe box volume is a little higher in the toes but again the upper is more structured and has less give so the Kjerag feels "roomier".

I’m a 7 UK (women’s, which can be different to a men’s depending on the brand) and I got a 7 (unisex in this case) and it is just right. I definitely wouldn’t go half a size down. However, inside the shoe it says the cm measurement is 25cm. I always choose my shoes by the cm measurement and for a running shoe 25.5cm is usually as small as I can go. So don’t know what that means about the sizing.
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning 3 ай бұрын
Yes, women ‘s sizing is always different…. But Nnormal does recommend a half size down across the board on their shoes.
@thenetnat
@thenetnat 3 ай бұрын
@@damianbarnes4226 Just look at the cm measurement inside the shoes you have because for example a women’s Saucony size UK 7 is 25.5cm (perfect for me) but the men’s UK 7 is 26cm (too long for me). Brooks UK 7 men’s = 26cm Brooks UK 7 women’s = 26cm Altra UK 7 men’s = 26cm Altra UK 7 women’s = 25.5cm (though my Torin 5 say 25.75cm, maybe they changed their sizing slightly) Nnormal UK 7 = 25cm If you half size down in the Nnormal as a UK 7.5, that means you’re getting the same size shoe I got, the UK 7 and I think, because of the shoe being unisex (narrower than a typical men’s shoe) it might not fit. Let me know how you find them! 😊 One more amendment: Though if you’re used to a narrow race-type fit like the Inov8 XTalon you might like to be ok in the UK 7 😜
